Oh and for our Audio listeners, the audio only podcast will come out soon! The Boshin War and Satsuma Rebellion are going to be a double feature on Podbean and thus this discussion is pushed a week ahead there.

Thanks for making the video. I have been interested in Imperial Japan (and Japan in general) for a while now and, the topic of the Bushin War has been on my list of things to learn about.
Do you know about the RUclips channel, The Shogunate? It has the history of Japan going from the Nara period to the Edo period. If you thought the situation of the Emperor being a puppet was odd, in the Kamakura Shogunate, both the Emperor and the Shogun were puppets. The real power laid for the Fujiwara clan.

I like The Shogunate because he's good at narration, but he's definitely a pop history channel. He mostly references outdated literature and pushes the traditional narrative for many of the events he covers. Don't take this as hatred though, I still genuinely enjoy watching them, and he does give a decent overview of the broad situation so to speak.

I am looking forward to your next podcast about the Pacific War which features the Philippines. I myself run a Facebook page dedicated to it: World War II in the Philippines. I'll probably share your RUclips link there on the page once you're done publishing it. Hope it comes out real soon.

Thank you so much, the first piece of content I think that would be made would be on the Philippines during the 18-20th century quickly and then how it found it self thrown into WW2.

The unspoken reason that everyone knows is the true objective of Boshin war was that the Satcho alliance wanted to avenge the Sekigahara. After all, they were the retainers of Shimazu and Mori clan of the western army. And that’s why it’s so easy for them to betray their own “expel the barbarians” ideal.
