June 2024. As always, including as many recent crowdfunding campaigns as I can that you've had your eye/wallet on. I’m, as always, going to tell you why you potentially should avoid backing any or all of these 20ish games.
And as usual, if you disagree with any of my thoughts or criticisms, awww shucks and or geee willickers, that's fantastic too! Go and back it. But backer awareness is the most important thing to make sure you’re getting the right games FOR YOU. And NO. OTHER. REASON. No FOMO. Let’s GO.
    Thanks for watching!

chris, seriously, thanks man - you've helped me figure some stuff out about the hobby - I'm realizing more and more that I just want a stable of core amazing games that I can play over and over for a long period of time instead of trying to taste each tiny new iteration on dozens and hundreds of games across half dozen or more genres - it's just not feasible or sustainable

Happy to say that I do looooooooove Cysmic. I'm so excited for it. Been since I played it on TTS.
Ironically, How to Save a World feels like a game I should love (worker placement, turn synergies, cool theme), but I look at the board and I just feel underwhelmed and I don't know why. It's weird.

Not fomo-ing over any of these, I am Fomo-ing over some campaigns that have late pledge options still available though.

In addition to the lack of gameplay videos and a rulebook for Terraria, there's some shady-looking stuff going on behind the scenes.

I don’t regret backing Rove one bit since it’s one of the most active and robust campaigns I’ve seen in a while. I also got to meet some of the Addax team and they seem to really know what they’re doing. I truly believe Rove is in competent hands

Ironwood preorder gives you the promo foil cards, the metal and wooden bits are in the retail version of the game. It's the exact same thing, the you get 3-3 promo cards that are the 3 promo cards that you keep in your hand each turn, it has an alternate art and foil finish, that's it. If you want to get it earlier, or care about the promos, preorder it, if not, wait for retail. I've played the game on an convention and also saw those promo cards. Look at shipping and do your math if it's worth it for you. But the metal and wooden bits are in the normal version too, there is no deluxification here, it's the same as Garphill campaigns

The Rove bit got me... I look over at Sleeping Gods, Oathsworn, TMB, and knowing I have Kinfire Chronicles reprint coming next year and a lot of "Ope I got another" moments struck true!

I like the anti-fomo! It is a nice change from every kickstarter being the next best thing and they are all 4/5+. Rove is hard for me because my favorite game is the Gloomhaven series which I have played all of everything except Frosthaven which I'm 25 scenerios in.

I don’t know why I even watch these. I’ve only backed 2 games on Kickstarter over 12 years, and both were reprints. I’ve got fomo for the games I already own that don’t hit the table enough.

Hey Chris, Great video man and that's coming from a representative of Addax games with Rove. I enjoy the "don't back it" style videos a lot.
You brought up the hardest thing in creating a campaign game these days. Everyone has at least one on the shelf of shame so why should I get another one. It was a major focus for us and part of the reason we made the game easier to table. Setup and tear down in under 10 mins and game play time that is 30 mins per player. That game time on the front page assumes a 4 player group but if you are a 2 player group you can finish the game in under 30 hours. That's still a solid time commitment though. We know Rove isn't for everyone but if the main reason not to back us is "do you need another campaign" then we did pretty good in all the other areas we could have failed in.

The only issue I have around Sysmic is that the creator talks about creating "his vision" and that's what crowdfunding is about. But when did we veer towards this idea that everything has to be overproduced? Years ago making the game would be the "vision", now it's adding all these overproduced bits and then being surprised not enough people want to spend (in EU) $170 total for a core pledge for a game that nobody knows they'll like in the first place? A reprint would have been the perfect way to introduce this "overproduced" theme with deluxe expansions in my opinion.

From a gameplay standpoint, I would rank them as follows (for me):
    1) Grand Central Skyport
    2) Big Sur
    3) Sand Art
    4) Wine Cellar
However, from a thematic standpoint, here are my rankings:
    1) Wine Cellar
    2) Sand Art
    3) The Others [Tie]: Grand Central Skyport/Big Sur
I love wine - but the gameplay looks too light (for me).

I’ve already clued into the fact that often with bigger games with high backing $$…wait a minute and you can pickup a fully backed NIS KS on the used market for a deal.

I am fairly certain that the retail version of Ironwood will include the premium components as well. The only thing you get out of pre ordering, are unique foil cards for each of the factions 3 basic cards.

Passing on Rove since I have Frosthaven and ISS Vanguard in the campaign que.
Passed on Regicide Legacy since I didn’t see the value in the campaign price. Will wait to see it at retail.
Backed Dark Omen since I think that game board was unique and it’s a small team behind it.
Likely backing Cysmic since it also looks unique and I haven’t seen anything like it before. Reminds me of a true game with that “toy factor”.
Still a lot of games coming this year that will be tough to stay away from though….

I just read the rules for _Apothebakery_ & each feature was one from another game I own. Admittedly, the actual combination is different, but it tips me away from backing.
Of course, the same applies quite often.

Often I will see a playthrough of a game and think, wow, that looks like a lot of fun, if only it played just two players. There are couples who, for whatever reason, are not able to be part of a group so having that option is important to them.

I'd like to have a solo cooperative, competitive legacy style campaign, push your luck, abstract miniature heavy, dice chucking, worker placement, trick taking strategic war game, based on true historical events set in the marvel, Disney, alien world with no luck element, playable by 0-13 players ages 3-41. Anyone has an idea?

Thanks for another great video. Chris you idiot. Lol!!! I’m definitely cutting back on the crowdfunding. I’m in a middle of a massive purge. 300 games need to go. I found that after being in the hobby for 10 years most reviewers are full of crap and most games are forgettable or at least for me anyway. I’ve already sold tons and I’m feeling freer than ever.
