Yeah I see it the same way. Even though the big projects are cool, there is just more heart in the little silly stuff. And we get to see more of the fabrication which I always enjoy, it comes with the feeling that you could go into your own shop and make something similar just for shits and giggles
Isn't having a plasma CNC table wonderful!? It makes making brackets soooooo much easier! And everything looks so damn fancy =) I should do a steampunk project at some point...
yes you should make a steampunk project you could make a clock but instead of chiming on the hour it could fire a rocket or something else that is loud and explosive
The core philosophy of Colin. Taking things that work perfectly fine on their own and combining them to work less fine in a way the were absolutely not intended. Perfect I love it.

The big builds were epic mate. A mix is always good. I'm just glad your making stuff. This was beautiful. I would go as far as to say art. When's the museum exhibit?
"To power it, we have the old chainsaw of course!" Ah yes, I can relate, I remember my college years when my dorm's ceiling fan was powered by a full size V8
I love the groovy music selection in this build! Found myself bobbing my head and humming a long more than once, which gets some funny looks during Mass...
debatable, For example a hacksaw and a circular saw do the same thing, But my cuts are a hell of a lot straighter with a circular saw, and some tools do the same thing but require different skills to do that job, A cnc machine I'd imagine this varies, But I know some use cad to tell the machine what to do, And the machine does it very accurately, Where as with a plasma cutter instead of being skilled with cad you have to be skilled with plasma cutting, And you won't be as steady. You're welcome for the essay you didn't expect nor want.
beastm0de7, I found I can get a good straight cut but stone me it takes effort with hand tools. I'll have to jig it up, or just take my time. I take out a track saw though, buzz, done.
My uncle taught me something in his garage when I was a young boy it's two quotes I live by till this day when making something: "work smarter not harder." And "don't do the tools job for it; when you use it correctly the tools does most of the work for you."
that's not true in the case where you aren't directly using the tool; you can download a model and cut it out without ever doing any real work, aside from downloading it and sending it over to your cutter yes it does the same thing as some other tools, but there is no human element to using it unless you manually change the settings on how the thing cuts.
I appreciate every single thing you make . It’s crazy how many people don’t actually no what it takes to do something like this . The time and the thought that goes Into it . Good job man . Keep up the awesome inventions . Make me want to go make something
That really would be the manliest fan in the world, having it pump two stroke exhaust in your face, but a fan running off the same belt might be more practical, and help with the voltage spikes too
sam rowland i think The best way to add a fan functionality to that lamp would be to mount an exhaust gas powered fan, which is gonna act a bit like a turbocharger (except on the other side of the shaft would be a fan)
I always like steampunk devices that look that way because they actually use those parts to work, as opposed to having random bits attached to something very generic inside, no matter how artfully. This lamp's clever design and build quality makes it look like it's been made by a company that also makes motorcycles in an alternate reality where power stations do not exist because either there is not enough people using electricity or they were destroyed by a worldwide disaster or war, rather than something hacked together at home. It would fit great in a post-apocalyptic game like Fallout or a movie like Mad Max.
I work on a small engine repair shop, Stihl dealer and when I saw the clutch with no bell before he started it, I thought he was going to cut the video and remove it, but then boom!! haha made me laugh so hard! Go Colin, youre the best!
I'd say it's more dieselpunk than steampunk, but that makes it even better, since dieselpunk is a criminally underrated genre. Amazing build as usual, Colin.)
What an excellent idea for a bedside light. Keeping one hand on the throttle you can use it for a bit of reading, remembering to 'blip' the throttle when you need to turn the page over, then get a great night's sleep when the exhaust fumes render you unconscious, then as it ticks over in the dark it will keep you asleep until the fuel runs out. Perhaps you could fit a larger fuel tank to help you get a lie in at the weekend?
Fun Fact: 2 stroke appliances are not new, in the 20's there were washing machines powered by moped motors, kickstart n all. I love the manly nuts off this thing, cant wait to see the next one! Excellent as always.

colinfurze I want one for Christmas
At first I wondered why this was a thing. But then he explained that lamps aren't manly enough and you know what? He's completely right.
Electronic lamp? Pussy
Petrol powered lamp? Slightly better
Nuclear powered lamp? Yes.
Why not power it ya self
True
There were experiments about the nuclear one in Japan, they decided it isn't the right answer after two flashes
Ernest Y I recommend giving "nuclear light bulb" a Google
Loving the fact that you are coming "back to the roots", with those "silly little inventions" we all love!
His big invention are good to
@AnTrAxX Slingshots
Totally agree. His huge projects like the AT-AT were damn cool, but it's the silly stuff that we really love.

Yeah, I love it more than 'pool car' project. Just my two cents.

No. Post build scenario.
a lamp powered by a chainsaw?? that's so pathetic *gets a beer from nuclear powered fridge*

Should have kept the chain drive. More manly than belt drive.

Make a diesel powered gas mask filter.
Wow! nice steam punk 2cycle lamp. You gotta love that!
Colin: Lamps are powered by electricity, that's not manly enough!

How easy (difficult) would it be to convert that engine to hit and miss?
