Canon Vixia HF G50, a Great Everyday Video Camera in 2023

CANON VIXIA HF G50 for everyday use & filming | If you follow this channel for a while, you probably know how much I covet the Canon XA50 as a solo filmmaker making documentaries. When it comes to documenting everyday life ... I thought a "baby" XA50-like camera would be perfect. After some research, I decided to rent the Canon Vixia HF G50 to try out. Here's some of my first footage filmed with the G50. I think it's a great EVERYDAY video camera! It has everything you need to document your daily life. This film was partly shot at the beautiful Huntley Meadow Park.
There is a new updated version of the G50 called the G70. It has better display and viewfinder ... so if you have the budget, definitely recommend the G70. I found a G50 used for a pretty good price so I think I'm going to keep it. :)

Hi everyone! I'm constantly in a state of nostalgia about life and so I love the lofi film look of yesteryear . ... I'm sure many of you are not into that. Just want to let you know right off that the grainy, vintage look is intentional for it is what I love.
Bravo, another great one Sarah. I love your style. The image coming out of the canon camcorder is lovely. Goes to show you don’t need a full frame camera to make a nice video. I loved the wildlife and that park is very nice. My eyes always light up when I see that you posted a video. Good job Sarah.
Awww thank you so much Andrew for your sweet comment. It makes my day!! The image quality of the G50 is not bad. I just need to practice using it a bit more to nail the focus, correct exposure and shaky footage.

Thank you!! The G60 is basically the XA50 minus the fancy handle on top. I love the XA50 ... and so I'm sure the G60 is pretty awesome too! If I do end up getting a camcorder, I'll definitely post more on it in the future! :) How cool that you LIVE in Hawaii!! One of my favorite places to be.

I loved the Canon G20, G40 and G21 but this is one didn't meet my expectations. The image quality is not as good as the other ones. It's is "sharper" and has more detail (because the 4k sensor) but that's it. I hoped to see a big leap in image quality but it didn't happen.
Thanks for your feedback! In post, I decreased the contrast and saturation a bit to make it look less sharp. If the G40 is good and you don't need 4K, then it's a great camera as is!
@@sarahdippity Why did you reduce it in post-processing? there are also settings for sharpness and contrast and color saturation in the camera, it's better to do it in the camera than already on the post
@@csamd9049 - I set it in the camera before filming as well and also did some edits in post. :)
I really with the camcorders could deliver the quality of the iPhone sensor that is the same size. Camcorders are being neglected by their makers.
A good video. The image is pretty good.

@Sarahdippity #Sarahdippity, Awesome video. I'm a recording artisans I was considering getting this camara for making music videos. I was wondering, what frame rate did you shoot your footage at? I was told for a cinematic, film look to shoot at 24 frames. Thanks for your footage.
For this one, I think I shot the footage at 24 fps. :)

Hi Andrew! No, I have not tried the R50. For photography and vlogging, I've been using Fujifilm cameras and love them so much.
@@sarahdippity yes, Fujifilm cameras are great. I heard the Fujifilm xs20 might be coming soon.
@@cubax26 - oh wow! I just got the XS10 a few months ago - last fall. It's a great vlogging camera for sure! The image quality and color science of FUJI cameras are fabulous!

Oh My! So GOOD. Your eye is amazing. I have this camera and use it for interviews. I would really like to get your image quality. May I ask what software you use for editing and if it's premier pro, what LUT or "film look" are you using? It's beautiful! Thank you. And your music, beautiful, peaceful, soothing and warm. WOW.

Tell me, does this camera give the option to record without sound?

i have yet to find that feature unless perhaps to turn down the mic volume?
@@sarahdippity This camera, apart from recording in 1080p and 4k, does not record in 2k (1440)????
@@PANDRIUX I have never filmed in 2K and don't remember the G50 having that option. I could be wrong though. :)
What are your settings that looks nice.
Mostly on auto since I was just testing the camera for the first time.
