What John has done is simply match up the numbers with the names that he’s gotten from troopers, the various CoH and others he knows in the regiment. He has been asked to not make that list public ie: names+numbers. So basically he uses his list to confirm the names by checking the numbers and pass on to us the correct names.
John, did you notice that when Invader was doing his business, the guard was standing up in his stirrups, taking his weight off of Invader's back? You do this so that you are not putting any weight on the kidneys, which lay almost directly under the back of the saddle, the cantle, area. It makes it easier for the horse to do their business. At least this business. The other business, they can and will remain seated for, as there is no interference happening when they do that. I was taught you raise out the saddle on both toileting if you know they are doing them was never told why but that you just do it thankyou for clarification on why you do it
@@jayjohnson8426 Because the guard can't move, I've noticed that they only rise out of the saddle for this business only, the other they remain seated for. But, usually, yes, you do raise up for both!! Exception!! If you are in line at the show at the end of a class. You WILL BE deducted marks. Usually at the show, a Horse will defecate on the move, and wait until back in the stall or at the vet box, if it is a recognized FEI Show before doing a urination. This can be a taught behavior, by the way. To not urinate in the show ring, and if a stallion or gelding, to not drop anything out in the show ring as well. I can understand why this happened today (because of the cold, maybe?) but i have a hard time understanding why they poop in the boxes, especially if it's later on in the morning. Don't their routines include these things taking place early in the morning, while they are still in the stalls?(i'm talking about non-medical situations, where horses don't have stomach problems or bowel problems)

It was very nice of that older gentleman to remind his kids that the animals can bite and kick and he was showing him the mark from being bitten once before it’s a warning it’s a lesson also, that was very informative. Very good video all in all drawn really good.❤❤❤
Sometimes I think the tourists who laugh when the horse moves towards them are thinking the horse is showing affection. Even when the horse bites. Of course, most will look at the guards as if they are at fault. The other thing I thought of today is a sign with pictographs as well as the words. A soldier pointing a rifle to indicate a working regiment, a horse with mouth open to bite, one with it's back legs lifted in a kick. Maybe a sword coming down on a person's hand holding the reins ... too much?
I have been thinking of this also! Plus someone holding the reins with an X through it. Some will still ignore as usual, but it would help a bit with the non-English speakers 🙂

0:020:02 just viewed another channel and an off duty trooper and his girl visiting. he is tall one who has loud voice and could scare some tourists and yells loudly, "Do not touch the reigns. very nice looking and a great smile he had. good to see troopers visiting others on duty.
4:33 It seems that in most military units of that size, as well as the current mission, that all of the Troopers would be qualified in all of the positions. Would be interesting to know.🙂
Well in theory they are…..however, the fly in the ointment is the way the positions for the guard posts are allocated lol. It works on turn out. So the best turned out, most impeccable kit get the boxes, then the next two, gatesman and chitsman. To get those boxes, you really have to put the work into your kit, many of the regular boxmen spend half the night up, cleaning and polishing kit. Now some troopers, while beautifully turned out, never quite hit that mark-and in some cases, don’t really want to because they prefer other positions…..or alternatively, are realistic about their ability to reach that standard. 😂 (Those who saw Johns wonderful interview/vlog with a favourite Blues trooper will understand) so yeah there’s preferences too. So I guess yes theoretically, any trooper “can” take any position, in practice they TEND to have positions they gravitate towards.

Hi John, May I offer some information?: The Lord Mayor of London refers to the City of London which has its own boundaries, which is why when Royalty visit and reaches the boundaries, there is a surrendering ritual. The Mayor of London is Sadiq Khan, each borough of London has its Mayor. Officially there is only one Lord Mayor. A woman who is Mayor of her borough is known as Mayor. If her husband is Mayor, she would be referred to as Lady Mayoress. (I am a daughter of someone who had responsibility for the ceremonial and protocol of the City of London and this information was "drummed into me as a child")

I have a little problem with OCD, I'm a picture straightener but that trooper's helmet is driving me crazy. The signs are bad enough but you rarely focus on them but I do so want to grab that helmet and straighten it. Love your videos and look forward to more of them and reading the comments from people around the world. I live in Wales but will never be able to come to see these beautiful creatures.

Not the mounted guard as far as I know. The other (foot)units in the Household Guards are at other sites tho, such as Buckingham Palace, St James Palace, and the Tower of London. The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery sometimes practice in Hyde Park.

Evening John another great video👍, did you find out what the minimum working temperature is for the horses. Also I've wondered why the Police horses have blankets over their backs yet the Guards horses don't unless it's because they are protected by the boxes.😊. I noticed that the Gatesman before the change at 35:00 had a very slow distinct walk but the new guard had a completley different walk.
The blacks are carrying riders wearing huge woolen cloaks that cover at least a part of their quarters and are in at least semi shelter for their 1 hour duty. The police horses are out in the weather for much longer periods(I’m not sure what a duty entails for them time wise but it’s longer than an hour) and while they can move around, they have little shelter, so a quarter rug for warmth is important for them
John I’m new to your channel and to the life guards, the horses and that building. Would you explain to this American in Alaska what are they guarding? Sorry if that’s a silly question.
This lady stable person looks a lot like that lady who showed up one day and kept trying to soothe a cloppy horse. She kept walking up to the horse and leaning towards the horse, talking to it. None of the guards or stable people shooed her away either. As she leaned forward, it looked like her back to the top of her head was one smooth arch aimed at the horse. Very distinctive.
John in all honesty maybe word is getting out now that you can ask the guards if you can pet the horse. Some may have just watched the other tourists to get a feel of the rules for getting a picture taken and may have thought they were not allowed to acknowledge them unless they broke a rule. Think when a lot of outsiders think of the kings guards they have the have that impressiom of the guards who cannot move. Or they're just rude and i am completely wrong.
Once again, why is this woman forcing a child who is frightened by the horse to stand near to the horse. I cannot understand why parents think it is safe to put very young children near a giant horse who is some cases could fly out of the box at any minute. These two Invader and Knightsbridge do seem to be quite calm at the moment. That guard should have given that young woman a good kick, what is the matter with them, this is actually assault, touching anyone just touching another person whether they know them or not is assault. How many people would like to be touched without permission by a stranger? Good on Knightsbridge if he is a nipper/biter he gets my vote anytime.
Nice to see the Lady Mayoress or Lord Mayor, shame about the trainers, but nice to see her visiting. About the person that got banned. Your channel your choice. I'd rather see the horses and the guards at work. If I want to watch that march I can find it I'm sure on Google. End of discussion.

Thankfully I've never seen it, but more than one Guard was thrown last Summer during Trooping the Colour. 🙏🏻

Turn out. Morning inspection chooses the best turned out for the boxes, next two for gatesman and chitsman. The standard for the boxes is VERY high.

Evening John another great video👍, did you find out what the minimum working temperature is for the horses. Also I've wondered why the Police horses have blankets over their backs yet the Guards horses don't unless it's because they are protected by the boxes.😊. I noticed that the Gatesman before the change at 35:00 had a very slow distinct walk but the new guard had a completley different walk.
The blacks are carrying riders wearing huge woolen cloaks that cover at least a part of their quarters and are in at least semi shelter for their 1 hour duty. The police horses are out in the weather for much longer periods(I’m not sure what a duty entails for them time wise but it’s longer than an hour) and while they can move around, they have little shelter, so a quarter rug for warmth is important for them

This lady stable person looks a lot like that lady who showed up one day and kept trying to soothe a cloppy horse. She kept walking up to the horse and leaning towards the horse, talking to it. None of the guards or stable people shooed her away either. As she leaned forward, it looked like her back to the top of her head was one smooth arch aimed at the horse. Very distinctive.

John in all honesty maybe word is getting out now that you can ask the guards if you can pet the horse. Some may have just watched the other tourists to get a feel of the rules for getting a picture taken and may have thought they were not allowed to acknowledge them unless they broke a rule. Think when a lot of outsiders think of the kings guards they have the have that impressiom of the guards who cannot move. Or they're just rude and i am completely wrong.

Once again, why is this woman forcing a child who is frightened by the horse to stand near to the horse. I cannot understand why parents think it is safe to put very young children near a giant horse who is some cases could fly out of the box at any minute. These two Invader and Knightsbridge do seem to be quite calm at the moment. That guard should have given that young woman a good kick, what is the matter with them, this is actually assault, touching anyone just touching another person whether they know them or not is assault. How many people would like to be touched without permission by a stranger? Good on Knightsbridge if he is a nipper/biter he gets my vote anytime.

You have named the horse on the left before. It is the one with the distinctive white eyebrows. I just can't remember. You called them dusty eyebrows before. Does that help at all?

There is one... and I CANNOT remember it's NAME I'm sorry. But yes it has a much lighter dusting of grey over its eyes
