Now I understand the size of the large Leopard tortoise in Prague Zoo, that one was as large as the adult sulcatas. Last summer I was there and I was very impressed of the size of that tortoise. I have a large male (at least 40 cm and weighing 6 kilo), but the one in that zoo was similar to the ones Kenan just shared with us in this video.

Well, that is a surprisingly beautiful hybrid. Those patterns remind me of the Radiated, or even the Impressed Tortoise. That is some killer camouflage. I would not be surprised if you end up with some fertile eggs at some point. Sulcata males are infamous for breeding just about anything, including Rocks, and as their body shape and attitude exhibits more Sulcata like, if they end up with the Sulcata Herd, who knows what may happen. You have 3 after all. Two with Sulcatas, and one with the Leopards. Who Knows?? Best of luck with these beauties.
It'd be wild to get an update on these guys some day down the line, to see if they truly do get as large as a sulcata. Also, with the size difference between sulcatas and leopard tortoises....how did that work? The breeding process that resulted in lepcoptras, I mean.
Those hybrids are gorgeous! It would be interesting to have them in with the other sulcattas and see if they produce and offspring or if they truly are infertile.
Their DNA is close enough that they can produce the necessary gametes to breed successfully. The Savannah cat actually cannot reproduce with another Savannah cat. They have to breed the female with a male serval for 4-5 generations because they will produce a male Savannah cat that can breed successfully. But by that stage they have lost most of the characteristics that people are looking for in a Savannah cat.
Hey Kenan I think these two leopards are Spp leopard aka South African leopard, yours are Spb aka East African leopard, it is a good idea to keep them separate

Beautiful tortoise. I don't know much about tortoise but wouldn't be suprised if they would be fertile. I'm snakes there are a lot of hybrids that are fully fertile and multiple generations are produced crossing both hybrid to hybrid or hybrid to pure species.
They look beautiful. I am wondering though Kenan: What is your opinion on breeding hybrids? I am usually okay with it in pets as long as the offspring is healthy and happy but I don't think we should breed hybrids from endangered species since that would reduce the size of the gene pool. But I am curious to hear your opinion.
Lep-Cata (leopard sulcata) is the name used in the tortoise forums and groups. lepcatra sounds like chupacabra. Not a big fan of hybrids but they are very interesting looking.

Some mammals can produce fertile hybrids. You can cross cats with servals and get a savannah cat. I also knew someone who did wolf/dog crosses.
I could be wrong, but since domestic dogs are descendants of wolves they arent considered separate species so that wouldnt be a hybrid.

Even if the hybrids are fertile/viable, the offspring of the hybrids may be feeble or non viable. This is called hybrid breakdown.
