    Thanks - A few minutes of backup will save someone hours of grief and sorrow. I just needed the reminder and using the save settings are a must do for any editor. Great information. I save to my NAS. and a cloud storage serviced similar to yours. Love the not if, but only when. 😃

    Hey, great vid! Have a question though: how can you back up your media and keep it linked with the projects of the database you backed up? Because I understood you can back up media and databases separately, but how do you manage do keep them linked? Thx💪💪

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 месяца назад

      Hey! For me, I've got a large external RAID hard drive that I keep all my projects on when they are complete. I can just relink the resolve media to that drive. Then my whole big backup drive gets backed up to Backblaze for off site storage.

    hello, thank you very much for everything! I have a question, how can we save only the part of our clips that we use in the edit. I only need 4 seconds of a 2 minute clip sometimes...

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can make a subclip and put that in your media pool if you want. Just set In-N-Out points on the longer clip and then drag it into the media pole.

    EDIT: Found it, apparently I had to uncheck and check the timeline backup again for it to appear, thanks for the video!

    Please help! :( So...I exported a project and had "refer this new export as the media source for all clips” checked because I copied all my project files over - there were a lot of clips in the video that were offline because the thumbdrive I was using for a lot of clips wasn't plugged in...now the source folder for 90% of my project is directing to empty folders made by the export.......resulting in me needing to reconnect every single one manually...any help? Your videos have always been helpful, especially enjoyed your audio ones!

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  8 месяцев назад

      Hi! When I'm done with a project, I just move it to an external drive for long term storage. I also use an online backup service to backup everything and the long term storage projects are included in that. So I really don't have to think about backing them up, it's automatically done. 😁

  • @EvanLaPointe

    So I'm a little behind on backing everything up and I'd like to back up all of my projects and media. What do you recommend to back everything up and how should I keep up with it moving forward?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 месяца назад

      Hey! I'd backup your DaVinci Resolve Database - that will include all of your projects. I do that every so often or when there is a Resolve update. For all of the media, I use Backblaze to back all that up offsite.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  9 месяцев назад +1

      If you have a project backup file, you can try loading that. Open the project manager, right click on the project and choose project backups. If there are any, you'll see them and you can load them backup. It won't overwrite the project, it will just add a new project to your project manager.

    Great advice Jason!
    Just wish I knew this 6 months ago when I started using DaVinci... because why in Gods name is everything located within a local database and not individual project files like every other piece of software out there?! I just lost all of my projects (not that many, but still) when upgrading from an iMac to a Mac Studio because I thought all of my project files where located on my Google Drive account like everything else I have whether it's Photoshop files, Illutrator files, Ableton projects etc etc. But NO, you need to manually remember to move a DaVinci database file(s) to somewhere else... besides the great advice in this video it would have been nice if the DaVinci guys made some kind of on-boarding in the installation process explaining how this works since it so different from other software.
    Not sure if my frustration from losing all my projects comes through in the above rant :D ...anyway, I'll follow your advice from here and set the backup files to automatically save to an external drive instead of the default local location.

      Sorry to hear you lost stuff! That's a pain. Yeah, resolve works a little differently than other programs by using the database. It's got it's pro and cons, and it's just a new way to work compared to other NLE's.

    Sometimes erasing EVERYTHING is just a way of clearing your mind and starting afresh and anew. At least that's what I'm telling myself after flippantly erasing my whole hard drive trying to do something completely different. And here we are... "Stupid tax" always come at the worst time.

    Hello! What do I do if I want to export multiple projects that share the same media pool? Do I export project archive for one of the projects, then export just the project file for the others?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey! You only need to export the project file once. All the timelines and media info will be with it. Export the project file for just the Resolve project file or export the project archive to include the media as well.
      Thinking about it some more you need to export each project if it’s separate projects and resolve. Otherwise the media won’t be linked up to your timelines, etc. in eachproject

    Is there a way to open or load a Timeline Backup OUTSIDE of the Project itself? Every time I try to open the Project, I get the spinning ball of doom... and sadly, the Project was not backed-up, only the Timelines was. Can I do anything with that??

    So I just wiped my computer today but saved all of my timelines to my D drive in a folder called Davinci Project Backups. All backups were saved within a folder labeled random letters and numbers with an extension of project.db.123456789
    1) Whenever I right click from the Project Manager and Import Project, DaVinci wants either DRP or .resolveZIP's. Project is unrecognized.
    2) If I try to restore project archive, and select that alternate folder, I get an error.
    3) If I click RESTORE next to Project Libraries at the project manager, it wants .backup or .diskdb files. Project backup files are unrecognized.
    I've been scouring the internet to try and get these back but Resolve doesn't seem to have a method to restore these timelines. I know they work however. Any ideas? These projects are EXTREMELY important to me

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! Sorry to hear you're having troubles. For the next time, I'd 'backup the database' which will have all your projects and everything in it. But since you have the Project.db.xxxxx files, look at this video and you should be able to restore them: ruclips.net/video/OCb1oeMRMQM/видео.html

      I'll have to relink everything since my drives all switched and DaVinci dunno where they went but I had footage gathered into timelines in projects that I made from when my mom had passed away in 2023. I made backups but was slightly worried I lost all these projects.
