    Really enjoyed this video. I am an American who was born in Ayr, in 1953 (my mother was Scottish and my dad American). While I grew up in the USA, I did liv
    e in Ayr for about a year when I was 9 or 10. I attended school at Alloway. your tour takes me back to many sights I remember. The area is beautiful, and has a unique history. Thanks for taking me on your tour.

      P.S. Visited again in 2010 with my wife. Toured London, York, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Ayr. The only thing I hated was driving on the left side of the road. 😦 Just glad I didn't kill anyone.🤣🤣🤣

      Hello Ray, thanks for your comment - I'm really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video and it brought back a few good memories for you. Interesting to read about your family history and how you returned in 2010 - you visited some cool places for sure! I bet Ayr had changed in-between you living there and revisiting in 2010? Had to laugh about the roads, I know how you feel as most countries I visit drive on the right and it does take a lot of getting use to. That's why I liked visiting Malta, it was one of the few places that drive on the left!

    I’ve recently discovered your videos, my wife and I have enjoyed them!
    Your videos have brought back wonderful memories of our visit to Scotland in August 2019 . My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in Scotland for 3.5 weeks. Staying in the Prestwick area, this was a work trip for me and a holiday for my wife.
    We did almost exactly the same things you did in this video. It was a great trip! Scotland is such a beautiful country!!

      You're very welcome John, glad the videos brought back some great memories for you! 3.5 weeks sounds like a good amount of time to see lots of great places - there's so much to see in that area isn't there? Thanks for tuning in, much appreciated 😀

    The Garden you were looking at from the Brig is actually the Gardens of the Brig o Doon Hotel, which is much bigger than it looks like from the front.

      Ah yes I see. I didn't realise that. It sure is a very well kept garden! Thanks for watching!

    What calm and obedient dogs. Everything you presented here was new information for us; we learned a lot. The monument was quite grand. We imagine the garden behind your house is similar to the one on the River Doon. You find the most beautiful beaches!

    Ah, the weather started off so promisingly and yet deteriorated in true British fashion. The monument and memorial garden were stunning, such a shame that it wasn't dry for you! Greenham Castle's tower on the edge of the cliff like that was amazing - and with the storm clouds in the background, exactly what I picture typical Scotland to look like!

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  2 года назад

      Yes some very authentic Scotland along that coast - lovely area! Shame about the rain but luckily I had my GoPro with me - the show must go on and all of that!

    Just to help viewers with the story of Tam, you missed a few points. Tam was actually on his horse, Meg. When he encountered the witches at the kirk, he shouted out "Weel done Cutty Sark!". The witch dancing on the graves and summoning the devil, was wearing a nightshirt and was barefoot. Those nightshirts were known as a cutty sark. Anyway, the witches gave chase as you mentioned, and he barely escaped. As his horse reached the brig, the witch made a final lunge to catch him, and grabbed the horse's tail so hard that she pulled it right off, but she couldn't cross running water, and Tam and the horse crossed the brig and escaped.

    You've embarrassed me. For the past twenty years I have lived 1km away from much of what you have covered. I never knew the Poet's Path existed and I never knew that you can get inside the Burns monument.

    Enjoyed your video of the Galloway forest until you had no idea of how to pronounce the names of where you were, i.e. rangers road, is raiders road, and clatteringshaws loch was not what you said. Please dont insult us who live around there , by now knowing how to pronounce the places you visit.

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  3 месяца назад

      If I wanted to insult you I wouldn't pronounce a place incorrectly, how about you get off your high horse and rather than whine about people mispronouncing place names you add something positive to the conversation and give me some tips on how to do so. That way you might help others with their pronunciation. It's a bit like me being insulted by you misusing the English language when you say 'by now knowing' rather than 'by not knowing' at the end of your comment. Rather than be insulted I'd rather try and help you write properly. Come on man, be better than this.
