Chronicle says he has 4000 places for horses built, but way more riders, first king says he bought way more horses, it’s not that confusing. I think if you read both scriptures and then really pause, and then you guide the person into the truth, they are more likely to see their error and how they were manipulated. It’s important to understand that when scripture was copied it was checked more times than you can imagine and there was ceremonial bathing involved and checks and rechecks, not to mention prayer.

What does it mean for the Bible to be "inspired by God"

    • @TestifyApologetics
      @TestifyApologetics  2 месяца назад +14

@@UltriLeginaXII believe God shared his insights with chosen messengers (apostles and prophets), who then wrote them down in their own words. So, different wording could express the same divine message. It's the meaning behind the words, not the words themselves, that are inspired by God. This makes sense to me because it seems more personal and relatable than God simply dictating every word.
Of course, there are exceptions where God did dictate specific words, like the Ten Commandments. But for most of the Bible, I think it's about the underlying meaning and message.

The thing to remember about dawah (Muslim apologetics) is that it doesn't operate according to western standards of intellectual discourse. It relies much more on bravado and passion than simple "if A, then B". A Muslim argument can be completely vacuous but if the apologist says it with enough energy and conviction, Muslim listeners will take it seriously.

    • @fisharmor
      @fisharmor 2 месяца назад +2

@@wtfboom4585 And atheists have a long and rich tradition of doing that - shunning the unbeliever.
Christianity is a religion of Truth. Christ said "I am the Truth" and this is an important part of understanding Christianity - devotion to objective truth is an important first principle in understanding the faith.
Sometimes that quest for truth takes us outside our comfort zones. The true Christian response, as the thread implies, is to weigh the evidence and make reasoned arguments, as opposed to taking the Muslim approach of passionately doubling down on fallacies.
This is why the people who tend to get upset about the treatment of people like Velikovsky probably at least have a Christian upbringing. When Graham Hancock starts talking, all the scientists do is shun the unbeliever, but those who want truth are hearing something different - we're hearing Hancock repeatedly give litanies of other people the scientific community have shunned rather than listen. We hear Muslims shouting someone down.
To be honest I'm not a fan of Kent Hovind, and he definitely subscribes to some theology I categorically disagree with - but when I hear his argument on creationism, he makes some convincing points. In particular, his point about how the lost P-38 squadron kinda destroys the veracity of the Greenland ice core samples, or his examples of fast fossilization.
Likewise, the most mouth-frothing evangelicals have *something* to offer.
You might not want to sit through it, but the decent thing to do is to admit that you don't want to spend the time sifting through it, rather than dismiss it entirely.
But shunning the unbeliever when you also profess not to be one... that makes the least sense of all.

These arguments are in a sense the embodiment of what the Lord said about 'straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel'. The alleged discrepancies between the Books of the Kings and the Books of the Chronicles can be solved by understanding the difference in the emphasis between them. Samuel and Kings are told as history in general where Chronicles is the history with emphasis on the spiritual aspect of it. Besides Islam has far more obvious contradictions in the Qu 'ran than supposed errors in Scripture.

@@legendaryadam Sure, let me elaborate on how Ibn Hazm contributes to the discussion on this hadith. Ibn Hazm was known for being pretty strict in his evaluations, often labeling hadiths as weak or even fabricated based on his unique standards. But it's important to remember that his opinion is just one perspective within a broader scholarly discussion. Other scholars, like Shaykh Al-Albani, actually consider this hadith as hasan.
Now, about the narrators Hisham bin Sa'd and Ahmad bin Sa'eed: it's true that they've faced criticism from some scholars. For example, Ibn Hibban and Al-Nasai pointed out some inconsistencies with Hisham bin Sa'd, but he wasn’t completely dismissed by everyone. Scholars like Al-Dhahabi noted that he was reliable in certain contexts. So, it might be a bit unfair to dismiss him outright without considering the context and other corroborating evidence. Similarly, Ahmad bin Sa'eed was criticized by figures like Ahmad ibn Hanbal for precision issues, but it’s crucial to look at his narrations alongside other evidence.
In hadith science, multiple weak chains can sometimes support and strengthen a narration, especially if they align with established Islamic teachings. Scholars often consider a variety of chains and perspectives, and that's why it's essential to look at a wide range of scholarly opinions. This helps us gain a more comprehensive understanding of the hadith's authenticity and relevance.
Respected scholars like Imam Al-Daraqutni, Al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani also support the authenticity of Sunan Abi Dawud 4449. While it is good to try to be like Jesus in many moral respects, we’re not supposed to imitate every single little thing he did. I’ve seen Muslims claim that they’re better followers of Jesus than Christians, since they are circumcised, don’t eat pork and pray with their heads on the ground (Jesus did that at one point but it wasn’t a regular practice), since Jesus did those things. Not a contradiction. 4000 stalls for both horses and chariots. 10 horses per chariot (40,000 horses). If some get tired and injured, you can switch them out so your chariot remains operational.
As far as the king ages, a reasonable explanation is that we are reading about a coregency. Someone can be called king at 8 years old, but in reality the mother or someone else is in charge. Later on at 18 the king would gain total control.
Sometimes what appears to be a contradiction, could have a reasonable explanation.

Just as the Mongols would bring a dozen or so remounts with them for every fighter, a chariot would have multiple horses for it. A horse can't run all day pulling a chariot. Horses would need to be swapped out. So 4,000 chariots and 40,000 horses means 10 horses per chariot. Some of which may have been for carrying supplies and not for battle.

I'd be interested to hear your take on the 2 Samuel 24:1 and 1 Chronicles 21:1 contradiction, where in Samuel it is said that God called David to count the Israelites while Chronicles states that Satan provoked David to perform the census. My personal takeaway was that, when Samuel was written, "demons" were referred to as "bothersome spirits of the Lord" like the one that would occasionally bother King Saul, so at the time Samuel was written, "Satan" was understood to be an agent of the Lord, like a necessary evil that exists for a good purpose, but by the time Chronicles was written, the concept of "Satan" being something separate from the Lord had been established, but I think it's still important to understand Satan as being a "spirit of the Lord" since Satan was still created by an all-knowing creator that must have known what choices Satan would make in the future, the creation of Satan was by no measure a "mistake" so it can be understood that whatever Satan does, God must allow to happen, like when the lying spirit told God about his plan to lie to King Ahab's prophets, or when Satan approached God about his plan to convert Job. I personally feel like painting Satan as a completely separate deity that somehow was never meant to be here and somehow pulled the wool over God to make the world fall sends a message like "God lost to Satan" or "God never intended for humans to exist past Adam and Eve" because that tells people that everything good about the world exists only because of Satan and not because of God. While it might be true that the current world we live, and our own existence would not have happened if Satan didn't tempt Adam and Eve, it would be wrong to suggest that God did not intend for Satan to tempt Adam and Eve, or that God didn't already know that Adam and Eve would use their free-will to choose to take the fruit of knowledge.

Islam believes the Quran is inerrant.
Christianity believes that the message contained in the Bible is inerrant.
It is important to understand the distinction.
An Asian tourist may ask you, "Where office post to letter go mail, tell please?" In the Quran, there is a genuine mistake, which cannot be excused by a copyist error. The different numbers in the Bible don't affect any Christian doctrine, but in Surah 4:11-14, Allah gives the laws for inheritance, and disobeying them will lead to hell. Fair enough, if obeying them wasn't impossible in some cases. Let's say a man dies and leaves behind his parents, his 2 daughters, and his wife. The parents are supposed to get 1 sixth each, that is 1 third in total (33%). The daughters share 2 thirds (67%). The wife gets 1 eighth (12.5%). If we add all these shares together, we get 112.5%, which is impossible - unless a miracle happens, then it's fair enough.

@DominikKoppensteiner no you aren't. You are fulfilling what Allah has commanded by keeping the shares in proportion. You know, this youtube channel made a video about Islam apparently mistreating women but failed to bring up the aspect of inheritance. It's almost like inheritance in Islam is perfect and fair, whereas the same can't be said about Christianity. The original poster knew that and decided to choose the arguments that wouldn't backfire on him.

And the shares are a commandment of Allah, and the text does not say, that you have authority to change the shares. It says, if you disobey them, you will go to hell. Is there any text in the quran, that authorizes Muslims to change the shares in proportion, so that the daughters for example no longer receive 2 thirds?
For example, if the inheritance is 24,000$, then Allah commands that the daughters get 67%, which is 16,000$. If you keep it in proportion, which I guess you do by assuming that 24,000 is 112.5% instead of the actual 100%, then the daughters get around 14.300$, which is about 60% or 3 fifths. You have effectually decreased their share from 67% to 60%, so is there any text in the Quran, that authorizes that change?

I find it interesting that the majority of the Old Testament "contradictions" are just number errors in the Masoretic, which are clear in the Septuagint. I'm all for preferring Hebrew over Greek, but the Greek can be a valid proof-read.
On the one hand, this argument does shoot down modern Rabbinic Judaism, because they do insist that the Tanakh is perfectly 100% preserved down to the letter, and that the errors are in the Septuagint and New Testament rather than the Masoretic. On the other hand, the fact that practically every genuine OT contradiction is a simple number, shows the extreme care the Jewish Rabbim have taken in preserving the texts.
Between the careful preservation of the Masoretic, the refining answers of the Septuagint, and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Old Testament is remarkably reliable. And although there are some questions on numbers, and a vague mention of a lion, at least it didn't think Moses was Jesus' uncle, who saved Israel from Haman.

I remember arguing with King James Onlyists about the validity of other translations, and they said that only the KJV was inerrant, with proper doctrine and translation and no contradictions. I pointed out that making this the hill to die on makes us no better than Muslims. Then I sent them the original preface of the first edition King James Bible (please go read it, it’s incredible). Honestly, it made me see the KJV more favorable (as I didn’t really like it before since there is a degree of censorship).
The translators include many things about why they set about authoring that version of the Bible, but they also point out that their translation has flaws. They said that they weren’t too concerned with consistent terms or communicating the full range of a word’s context, rather they were trying to make the main message UNDERSTANDABLE to the people around them, and they actually ENCOURAGED readers with scholarship to go to other editions and translations. They said that a man with many flaws may still be a virtuous man, that a man may have a crooked nose and wrinkles around his eyes and still be considered handsome, and as such, a text may have all the quirks of human error in translation but still contain in its message the Word of God. Maybe you lose some of the richness of it when you can’t understand what the original is trying to communicate word-for-word, but God’s message isn’t transformative because of how many horses Solomon had, it’s because of His sacrifice and love for us that makes us new and draws us to repentance.

Who are we to decide if the word of God has errors? I believe the KJV. Does my faith in the word of God make me evil? I’m not crazy and definitely not saying everyone who doesn’t read the KJV is going to Hell. Think critically about this issue. Can God create something perfect by using humans who sin? He brought His Son into this world through an imperfect sinner, yet He without the sinful nature due to His seed being of a woman and not the tainted blood of men. Is it preposterous to believe that God can preserve His word through imperfect sinners? The Bible isn’t about God, it is written by God. The commandments of Mount Sinai were literally written by the finger of God. Other religious texts are written in favor of their particular deity, in an attempt to only convert people to that deity. The Bible is very different. It’s the only Book that makes someone feel like they are nothing. All the other religions are humanistic in nature. I have read the preface to the 1611 King James Bible. They were against using only Hebrew and Greek. They used all translations prior to the KJV (even contemporary foreign languages) in order to gain a true understanding of the text. The Hebrews needed Hebrew, the Greeks Greek, Europeans their own languages, Africans their own, and now the East Asians need their own. Why should we, who speak English, which is now a universal language, need to learn Hebrew and Greek in order to understand the word of God? The ancient forms of those languages are dead and we cannot learn them in 100% accuracy. God, throughout time, brought His word through the world, just as He brought His Son through the world.

    • @silverforestry

@@disconnecteddisconnected they were against using Hebrew and Greek because they were INACCESSIBLE. However, the authors also say that the footnotes provide alternate translations where there was ambiguity and that they ENCOURAGE readers to use a MULTITUDE of translations.
Please be aware that the KJV bible was censored by the government (it does mot contain the word “tyranny” even though other contemporary translations did), and that it’s incredibly inaccessible as language has changed and we may misinterpret them-it’s translating a translation. Modern translations are very much suitable for study. We were never going to get the full depth of Scripture in the words of other languages-we can’t COMPREHEND the full depth, much less translate it-so where our own words fall short, interlinears can fill the gaps, and the Holy Spirit gives all understanding.
The KJV is not the best-it is good, as it contains the word of God, but it contains an abundance of mistranslations as well (I know of a website that enumerates every single one, you can probably find it by looking up “KJV errors”). That’s okay, because even when the individual words aren’t exactly right, the content is still 100% good and true, like the translators said in the preface.
Your logic is sadly dangerous. It’s the same logic that overtook evangelical circles in Brazil, and now there is only one translation that most people know of, the Almeida Version. It has been modified, but I’ve tried reading it and it’s awkward, with overly formal language and outdated vocabulary. My mother won’t even open her Portuguese bible anymore, she speaks English as a second language but she always prefers to use the ESV because it speaks in a way that is approachable.

Know that Jesus our God is always with you because he is everywhere because he is God, and know he is an infinity times stronger and wiser than any other power, Amen Brothers and Sisters. I love you all and thank Our lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for you all❤

When you read the whole story of Ahaziah then you see that he was king then he was kidnapped and was brought back home then he became king again. That’s why there are two ages.
