greetings earl, i have a new xrt myself, been in the hobby many many years, after 5 full packs I to noticed some fishy short cuts. started at the front and so far every single bearing is bone dry.. have not made it to the font diff but i did exactly the same method with removal filling and installing. this is such a crime at the expense we pay for such a overlooked simple fix. thank you for showing more in depth detail on the rear end. Im a bit nervous at the center diff side but clearly your video shows what to expect, and yet simple and straight to the point details. please continue to post videos. so much great tips and tricks. i hate the idea of throwing away working parts just to make things simple or lazy habits, its all part of the hobby.
All right ! That's a lot of work to service the center Diff. I like the way you clean up your bearings instead of just throwing them out. Good stuff Eman thanks
Hello Earl I find your videos excellent, one notices that you are a craftsman and know what you are doing. a little advice : fill the grease in a syringe with needle, goes great to grease ball bearings. kind regards from Switzerland, Reto
Awesome video Earl. Thanks for the video. I just got my XRT Green, so I replaced all my a arms to green. So after watching your video I decided to check my centre diff seeing it was apart, it was full of 20 at, a lot of work to do it . I’m glad I checked it. Replaced the bearings with fast eddys. Thanks again for the video, it really helped doing this centre diff. All your videos are awesome, Great channel.
Man that bearing SUCKS...... like how many of us is gonna check that bearing and look at the striping involved to get to it, and a practicaly dry diff. Like does the manufacturer reckon that's enough... Who knows, I'd like there to be more. Unreal. Thanks for another great vid Earl it's good to see how to strip it down 💯👌
Great video 👍That was a lot to go thru to get to the center diff ! Shocking the bearings are failing so soon ! Hopefully no more work is needed for a few so you can enjoy it !
Earl! I picked up a jewelry cleaner for bearings. I have (2) sets for most of my bigger rcs. That way when im doing repairs or upgrades, I just switch them out as needed. I put dividers in the box so they all dont mix. Cheers!
I'm always using the marine grease whereever there is contact with water. And I try to add the washers where bearings are exposed. I use yellow synthetic home cleaning towels for that. They get some grease from bearings and stop water from washing out the bearings, i.e. works as an oil seal.
Wow great video i can't believe the diffs are so dry and as i cracked the rear lower chassis i thought i'd better check my diffs aswell. The diff is full and surprisingly that diff grease is like rubber i expected it to be grease
Funny you said that I.just did that bc I was at work wanted to put rc back together exb diff.i have my Maxx apart it's alot work lol same all bearings are shot these aren't coming back to life .
Packing bearings too full of grease I find they ooze out after a couple runs so I've gotten to were I put just enough in there to cover one whole side then put the seals back on.
Acer Racing makes great bearings. They make them for most kits. But they have made bearings for me by giving them the dimensions. They use "sin oil" . And have ceramic bearings also.
Dang I had no idea it was that much of a pain to get those center diffs out but it looks like it might be worth it I had the front and rear diffs outta my XRT and Xmaxx and there was hardly any fluid in either of those too I put 30 weight in the fronts of both r\c’s seems to work a little better with both front and rear diffs having the same weight fluid
Now how much time is on this truck ,and the dry look inside diff ,could recommend a different grease but the bearing your using is excellent, nice to know about this so when I purchase one already know have a bunch of tweaks, and also tires aren't glued from factory 🤔
Thanks for this amazing video am planning on breaking mine down I was thinking and wondering if you pulled the rear diff if it would of gave you the room to pull the center diff with out having to spit it in half like you did to get it off the drive shaft if the rear diff was out would you have that play to get it out but I’m not sure just asking don’t have mine a part yet to see but that’s for video
EARL….I automatically replace all my bearings with fast eddy bearings,,because the traxxas bearings have plastic bearing cages…which don’t last as long..they tend to give out prematurely…I treat all my units this way,,,and it’s paid off in the long run…🇺🇸👈🚘
So the first ting I’m going to do wen I get my xrt it’s taking that thing apart so I can fix the diff and bearings before they are messed up right right,, thank for the vid. Bro 😎
How often do you all service your bearings and differential fluids? I typically blow out dirt/water/debris with compressed air after each run, but I don't know how often to lube/clean these components. I've definitely gone through some deep-ish water, so I'm guessing I'll have to get some new bearings.
When i did my diff i put The silicone earplugs in front back and middle diff also I packed all my bearings with grease what a huge difference and I know the bearings are gonna last 100 times longer
Hi earl I have neither X maxx or XRT, mainly because of the price I’m going to get one which one do you prefer Xmaxx or XRT would really value your opinion thanks buddy😊👍👊🏻
Really depends what u wish to do with it, the xrt will handle better but the xmaxx will bash better imo but I'm sure earl will chime in at some point! I only own the xmaxx so can't say alot for the xrt
@@nicksullivan2212 I say go look at both and see which one catches your eye man, I'm sure both are equally amazing! I know I love my xmaxx! That looks like a ton of work to get to the "center" diff! But good to see and know what your diving into! I think because of the tires that you have on it you called it your XMaxx twice! Great info and great how to vid Earl!!
Do you know if the center driveshaft is supposed to have play? I did the center diff and put everything back together and noticed play of the center shaft. It’s like 1/4 inch of play back and forth the gear connecting to it has play as well. If you can confirm this, thank you.
Okay, soooo... you have not even bashed this thing all that much since you have had it! LOOOK AT ALL THESE MAJOR REPAIRS!!! I know from working on real cars you pack the bearings with grease. But never packed RC bearings just used oil. Synthetic oil so it stays in better .
They use oil as the bearings spin better but for bashing & running in wet conditions grease it better
Always have to re-oil, but gease stays for the long haul
Try using a flat head screwdriver it’s faster and more effective
