They are grooving. I have this song stuck in my head, and its not the way you usually have a song stuck in your head. Its completely different. I feel like I'm tapping into something primal everytime.
i don't understand why people always say they get high listening to animal collective. I've never tried a drug in a my life yet i can completely listen to it appreciate it, just as anyone can fully appreciate classical music or tribal/world music.
... you definitely don't understand. May as well think you can understand and appreciate a pear in Vancouver by looking at a map and thinking of a pears shape and color. When a single bite is infinitely more revealing. Throughout all of history: drugs. Many argue religious experiences are the result of ergot and other mind-altering naturally occurring compounds. In fact, many religious rites still use drugs. Don't let reefer madness and the Nancy Regans of the world dump their silly stigmas on your experience. It's so sad something so transcendent and beautiful has been tarnished w the fears of small minds A life without *some* drugs is rather sad and dull. At least do ketamine therapy at your doctors office. Or some psilocybin once a year. Or if nothing else, listen to Terrance McKenna. You can get there other ways, but much more risky and drawn out. It's called a trip for a reason. Eat the pear bud.
Hey guys, just a quick note. This is an experimental band. Stop trying to justify everything they do, every sound they make. It's meant to be different and weird.
3:35 strikes me as fucking brilliant vocal plays. the harmonies noah and avey get towards the ends are just beautiful. it's like a tribute to the original studio version.
I love how people still actually question if they do drugs. I dunno if they still do, I mean if they do it's probably nothing serious. Avey even says "I let some hash relax me" in On A Highway. They have admitted to doing drugs though never really during recording or performing. Although Noah had that stint circa feels era in Europe where he wore a blond wig, took pain killers, and called himself Edgar.
Soon they'll have a comeback. A new album with all four of em' even Deakin. with all the fun noises, guitars, drums and obscure lyrics and vocalizations. Then they'll go on tour and I'll finally be able to go see them. And Deakin Will put his kid up on stage for one of the songs and then I'll reminess about the experience as an old man.
@KittybellChan oh definitely. there's a distinct ritualistic quality in their music. the use of chants, calls, repetition...one of the more ritualistic bands i've ever seen...very transcendent
I agree just as psychs can give you a strong sense of how in agreement you are with yourself. Its just an experience of life. All those things are going on all the time. You just don't have your perception n stuff maxed out so its not as clear what direction your taking and if that direction is good for you but eventually if your going in a very good direction, then your physicality will start to transform itself to meet the reality which you have dilligently persued without contradiction.
so true. i hate it when people expect things to sound a certain way because they think that it's "indie" and it has all of these boundaries that it's supposed to follow
I went to my first show on the 15th of theirs.... a huge music fest though and they were the almost final act (Justice started to play halfway through theirs on a stage a ways away) and well I was literally dazzled but in good and bad ways....the show itself was creepy and awesome but I think that's what they're going for...but I literally forgot where I was at times! lost in the music! CRAZY XD
And as much as I wanted to see Justice finish it off I just couldn't walk over all that mud again after the AC set...I was so beat and right outside of the AC concert when it was over there was a huge bonfire! So in the freezing cold drizzle all muddy and messed up we(my bros an I) chose the warmth and comfort of the fire over the last freezing cold Justice bit lol and well, we could hear them and see from afar the lights sort of but I barely looked....was too interested in getting warm :p
i am sure it sounded much better at the actual concert quite a bit because i thought that way about a lot of the live versions of their new stuff but when i saw them live all the levels were great and so powerful although they didn't play leaf house unfortunatley, i really do think the video distorts it
i've experimented for several years with several psychedelics, several times. my point is that we are composed of biochemicals, we have endogenous potential for these states of consciousness. most of us have never experienced them outside of psychs so we assume it's some particular drug experience.
lols indie only means independent, not being part of a record label and producing it yourself. but somehow someway there has been a "sound" given to the word "indie" but it doesn't really mean anything. technically Animal Collective is not indie they belong to fatcat records, though as some would say their sound is indie...
That's not what I mean. What I mean is manipulating the waves and using the different filters and stuff, like on 'Fireworks' or 'Peacebone' or something. I think Strawberry Jam has much more of an emphasis on electronics than any other album they've written.
what music do you like under this classification 'indie' you use for yourself? in my opinion: just because he looks stupid doing it doesnt mean its stupid music.
whether you think its complex or not, its still more creative than anything else out right now. nothing sounds like this. and using samples and electronics instead of the plain old guitar and drums. i cant see how you think this is simplistic compared to any other band out there..
no they dont... where is there proof of that? theyve said that theyve experimented with it in the past, and have never recorded music under the influence
you just have to understand how difficult it is to use one of those interfaces. It's not like using a normal keyboard. They're really difficult to master. I hate it when people regard electronic music as being easy. I love Animal Collective. Not one moment when listening to any of their songs have I thought that I'm wasting my time.
Their music is, at first, terrible. I know I hated them at first listen. The music part of your brain works by finding repetition in sounds. Animal Collective uses very subtle repetition. Also, sometimes the notes are hard to follow from the heavy amounts of editing the band notoriously adds. You might not like them now, but give them a few more listens. Remember how I said I hated them at first? They're my favorite band ever.
I love how they can do their songs in the style of different albums.
this performance is what kicked off my obsession with the band. fav band of all times
They are grooving. I have this song stuck in my head, and its not the way you usually have a song stuck in your head. Its completely different. I feel like I'm tapping into something primal everytime.

true dat, what those poor souls don't understand is that anco alone can get you high XD
logic error
Only busters see/hear psychedelic stuff and can only reference drugs. Being a conduit for art like this is more of a god experience than a drug one
... you definitely don't understand. May as well think you can understand and appreciate a pear in Vancouver by looking at a map and thinking of a pears shape and color. When a single bite is infinitely more revealing.

Hey guys, just a quick note. This is an experimental band. Stop trying to justify everything they do, every sound they make. It's meant to be different and weird.
Well they’ve said in interviews before that they’re not necessarily trying to be weird per se. they just do what they enjoy.
3:35 strikes me as fucking brilliant vocal plays. the harmonies noah and avey get towards the ends are just beautiful. it's like a tribute to the original studio version.
I like how this one is slightly more ominous. I think it fits the song well.
animal collective live is absolutely amazing please believe me
I believe you
+Dane Oppenborn i belive you too
+Dane Oppenborn I'm seeing them in march
how was it?
they are just portraying ancient music in a futuristic way
how is that deevolving?
Oh dad, we're all Devo.
@@feltongailey8987 good one
Great version.
Dear sir, Animal Collective are better than almost everything you think better. Good day.
I love how people still actually question if they do drugs. I dunno if they still do, I mean if they do it's probably nothing serious. Avey even says "I let some hash relax me" in On A Highway. Soundtrack to my life
musical flow can make people do amazing things
Animal Collective is amazing, thats all there is.

Oh wow, look at his face during the second half of the bridge. Lol. Ah.

i understand it, because its fun
i love there music equally if im high or not
but its fun to get high and listen to music you love
This house is saaaaaaaaad
Quick, we need more hipster
this is also more complex and brilliant than most mainstream music. you might listen to the studio version and see if you "understand" it then.
this is so damn good
sung tongs in the style of centipede
5 years before centipede
Maybe a small bit of resemblance to CHz but definitely moreso of one to strawberry jam which makes sense given the time period this is recorded.

Agreed
The beginning is kind of crazy.. but really funny :) hahaha.
very interesting. great song.
how sweet is Panda though right?
they also have their own label paw tracks but i dont know what that has to do with labeling them. i try not to label things.
if you were referring to their lollapalooza performance then I second that. I nearly lost it when i heard it start.
cool
i do many drugs and animal collective is one of my favorite bands.
They're playing Leaf House dude. That song can make someone who's never touched a drug trip balls.
Leaf House

Stop hating and start loving, you guys.
the archaic revival

Amen.
deakin is filming this?
Every animal collective video comments are an argument about drugs
excitable crowd....
I like this, but the guitar accompanying it on Sung Tongs is much, much better, and better suits the feling.
who cares how it was made... expressive and 'real' is good enough for me. thats music.
go see them live bud
the navidson record... quite grim, actually.
Resemblance five!
haunting
Panda kinda scares me there at the beginning.
This video made me realize that Avery Tare would look good with a mustache
Hahhha, Avey's such a freak.
meowwww kittys
what does panda use?
Sweet =)

Sung Tongs
probably because they only watch them on youtube
geologist=sound master

It seems so tribal when they play live sometimes.
geologist is the coolest
@FFScantgetadamnname
The defusing on stage trick by jumping around and speaking in toungs. I agree
@calvinandhodge ?? he looks like the fucking king to me
whether you think its complex or not, its still more creative than anything else out right now. nothing sounds like this. and using samples and electronics instead of the plain old guitar and drums. i cant see how you think this is simplistic compared to any other band out there..
Panda bear looks like topher grace here lol
3:55 Noah looks like Paul McCartney!
hahaha true that
@harrytheblurfan
lol yeah it can. life can make you trip balls if you're cool enough.
@FrimFrim92 my girlfriend has the disease too!
no they dont... where is there proof of that? theyve said that theyve experimented with it in the past, and have never recorded music under the influence
Are you someone who thinks they are good live or are not?
You don't have to be stoned to listen to this, but that's the same as saying you don't have to marinade your steak to eat it.
in short...They really know how to put on a show :P
really? Are you serious? I must be getting old.
noah is such a gorgeous person ♥.
as well as avey but he looks like he's having anuerisms here lol
he's got an afro without it.
LOL
@owlertheprowler
for realz! i'd pay big bucks for that.
this song's fucking great. i prefer the "sung tons" version (i love that guitar) but this one is more "tribal"
Geo looks like a dancing insect
