Most singers climb up to the notes where Steve starts out. A lot of people called Journey Arena or Yacht Rock. To me they were simply fabulous.
Never had a crush on Steve like I did Elvis, Donny Osmond or Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees but that *voice!* I loved his voice.
I'm from chicken farming country in Delaware.. yes we are a state.. lol.. Never saw a concert outside the State Fair till I was 16 yrs old.. Journey was my first in Philly.. the Escape tour.. My Mama was so scared to let me go to Philly ... she made me go with my older sisters ex-boyfriend.. a good Catholic boy.. I was in heaven he was in hell.. He didn't like Journey.. Tells me right there why he was an ex.. it was pure magic to me.. I will never forget that concert.
I think his best vocal performance is from this same live in Houston concert, singing Mother, Father ! You will be blown away!
Journey was at the top of their game back then. All 5 were excellent, no autotune or flashy nearly naked dancers, crude lyrics, but the talent and musicianship were outstanding. Today's singers could be better served by the industry.
Every song on that tour was amazing just like Journey. Always loved Steve Perry

Neal Schon -guitarist and band founder, back up vocals. He started out playing with Santana at age 15- Neal and Greg Rollie keyboards, both in Santana. Started the band Journey in 1974 as a jazz fusion band. Steve Perry, found by their manager, started 1977.

I saw them live in 1986 at The Spectrum in Philadelphia when I was in the Army stationed at Fort Dix NJ. Hands down THE BEST LIVE CONCERT I EVER ATTENDED!!!! Steve Perry is the best Rock front man of all time!

Don't Stop Believin' has to high on the list of songs to hear by Journey, video from the same tour. And the later song, 'Faithfully' 👍
Next up needs to be Mother Father from Live in Houston 1981. Stone in Love or Still They Ride are 2 more great songs from the Escape album.

If you like good voices, You Should also see "mother father" live from the same concert. Houston 81. IT is a masterpiece of live perfomances❤🔥 He reaches the sky there. You will not regret.
I recommend also "Sweet and Simple" and "when you love a woman".

Steve has a classic voice that is so soothing when it wants to be and then so gritty. Journey was one of my first concert, my first was Queen.

You are exactly right about the other band members and their talent. Steve himself said they bring out things in him that he can't do with other musicians.
Gonna take you awhile to get thru their deep catalog of hits, but you ain't heard nuthin' yet. 🙂
The 1981 concert filmed in Houston is amazing from start to finish. But you should also check out their live version of "Walks Like A Lady" from I think 1980 in Japan or my personal favorite, "Still They Ride" from 1983 in Osaka. You will not be disappointed with either.

PLEASE check out “Send Her My Love”. OMG, it’s my favorite Journey song. It makes me cry every time I hear it. “Open Arms” is also a favorite. And you have to check out “Faithfully” It’s amazing!!!!

Steve Perry was the lead singer of journey open arms is one of my favorite songs l wasn’t born till 85 me and my twin sister got into journey from our parents Steve Perry has the perfect voice the lyrics are so good ! We love all his songs , he left journey went on his own did pretty good and now is retired he’s a few years older then my dad . Check out when you love a woman. Journey is still around but not with Steve Perry they have a singer who has a great voice but l won’t go to see journey only if Steve Perry was still in there . Happy you like journey with Steve Perry he’s awesome 😀
Journey hit its peak when Jonathan Cain joined and formed a magical collaboration with Perry. Cain really shined at writing ballads, and Perry shined brightest when singing them. I heard that Cain had actually started work on "Open Arms" when he was with another band, but never used it because it wasn't right for their vocalist.
His voice is phenomenal

This was the first concert they ever played this song. Neil Schon ( guitarist ) Always opposed to playing it because he didn't have a part and it was too mushy. Steve Perry with the support of Jonathan Cain (pianist) said they are going to do it anyway and to Neil Schon surprise, with the reception giving afterwards, Neil Schon had admitted he was wrong.
