    Cloudcroft has grown tremendously since I lived there in the 1970s. There are at least four times the number of buildings on Burro Ave. I love that little town, and I have so many good memories of it.

    3 hours charging time for 80 miles of range? How does that work for road trips? Dedicate every other day to charging without any driving?

    • @bitfenix90
      @bitfenix90 Месяц назад

      I THINK he meant, "My batt tops off with 80 more miles and that shouldn't take 3 hours." But still... wanna go 300? Just how many hotel rooms do I rent a day for 5-10 hours of recharge time, and that's assuming I am first-in-line. Otherwise, just remember your laundromat days when patrons might not return for another hour to move their clothes so yours could fit in. That's another stall time factor. It ain't the range, folks - it's the RECHARGE TIME that's important on EVs. Very nice for city driving with your home station...

    In Dec 1959 to Feb 1960 we went to Cloudcroft. Probably on Swallow Pl. Snow was 4ft deep. 10 or so uf us 8-10 yr olds took a sled to the top of the road and a couple of kids stood on the highway and watched and stopped traffic so we had a clear shot straight across the highway! Mid January is still the record cold for Alamogordo, -14F in Jan 1960 and maybe 2 ft of snow. Threre was an apple oracher near the train trestle a few miles outside of Cloudcroft. U pick 'em apples were 5 cents lb. I saw once a train on the trestle which I think was a rare event for C. 1960

      @@TheHypnotstCollector Double check the official record for temperature. And once again-the rail line was abandoned in 1948 along with the track pulled up and the trestle had to be rebuilt in 2009 as you see it today because it rotted away

      @TheHypnotstCollector 3 месяца назад

      @@frankpeletz1818 I checked the "official record" many decades ago. Don't know where you got your official record. And I don't care if the line was abandoned, I know that. I merely said I saw an engine on the trestle. c. 1957. Don't know if a train was up there 9yrs later but it's what I recall. Trestle was sound then..

The time of year when these business folk take their vacation while they can!!!! Nice time to visit if you are there for the scenery and quite isolation because not much is going on.

    It's the re-charge time that kills me for EVs. Spending 3 hours for 100 miles or 200... ugh, when I'm used to logging 800 on a medium day. I never care about range-claims - it's RECHARGE TIME that kill EV viability for me. Thanks for this nice li'l succinct tour of CC.

      If you Google White Sands Missile Range, you can see how big it is. It covers a huge chunk of this area. You can only drive through the part where Alamogordo goes to Las Cruces. The rest is restricted. If you wanted to drive from Capitan to Truth or Consequences, you have to go around White Sands Missile Range, and it's 150 miles. If you went "as the crow flies," it's 100 miles.

    I have kind of figured out a way to extend an EVs range. Simply pull a small trailer with a generator on it so when the batteries are depleted you could start the gennie and fill the battery. Obviously it would be for emergencies only and the generator would need to be chosen properly so it could handle the current draw. Sounds like a joke, but if need be, the range could be greatly extended. My son drove someone's Tesla across the country and said the trip was basically aiming for the next charging station. Rusty, could the generator in your class C power the charger?

    It was the worst decision ever to get a Chevy bolt. Chevy will stop making them so therefore you’re gonna have massive depreciation on your car in the next 2 to 3 years should’ve stuck with a Tesla. It is not going anywhere and it’s the most innovative brand for EV.
