  • Part 2 (Brass): • Choosing The Perfect I...
    Choosing an instrument is an important and special time for a musician, but often they don't know what instruments are available to them and what each sounds like. This video walks through all the woodwind instruments, giving information and a quick demonstration to help a player decide what fits them best. Remember, every instrument requires considerable and consistent time dedicating to practicing to develop on. Pick something you'll want to practice everyday!
    If you play a woodwind, let me know in the comments!
    Happy practicing, everyone!

    Hi man! Awesome video, but as a bassoonist, bassoons don’t just play the bassline, a lot of the time it joins the euphonium and plays counter melody’s/melodys, as a bassoonist, I’ve been plagued by people sticking the bassoon on bass lines, for me and other bassoonists, the notes are harder to control down there, which in my opinion, is why the bassoon is best at counter melodys/tenor registers

    • @r4inim4tion

    • @nyancs7098

      R4i ni M4ti0n that’s true but in a band, bassoon isn’t as loud as say a tuba or bass trombone, so as a bass instrument, you can’t really hear it’s presence at all, which is why it’s better playing the counter melody’s as you can hear the sound of the bassoon better and clearer

    Nice video. But You've forgot the recorder. It's the simplest beginner's woodwind, but it's hard to master it. Well, I played the clarinet almost for six years, then a saxophone was borrowed to me for several months at the music school, but I returned to my first woodwind, and I play it proudly in our church orchestra. If there's no recorder part in the score, our director gives me the 2nd flute or the 2nd oboe part.

    I used to play trumpet in beginning band and I hated the instrument because of how much air an embouchure was needed to get good, consistent sound... It's not a good beginner instrument. This lead to me discovering the ocarina, and I much prefer it over any instrument used in actual bands. I clicked this video hoping to find something I'd like similar to an ocarina.. these instruments have similar fingerings. But, none of these appeal to me either in sound or design. I would most likely prefer oboe, but it seems like it can only hold a melody properly if you glissando alot, which isn't a pure tone like the ocarina gives off. I'm having a very hard time looking for a secondary instrument I wanna pick up.

    • @slusheewolf2143
      @slusheewolf2143 2 года назад

      I have an addendum. I'm looking up world and folk instruments, which definitely would fit my bill instead of traditional American woodwind or other band instruments.

    • @a-mazur-ing
      @a-mazur-ing  2 года назад

      I play ocarina too, actually. Super fun instrument! The fingerings (and sound) are really close to the flute, so that would be my first recommendation if you want to still play in the band. Playing in a large group is a unique experience, I hope you stick with it! And yeah, trumpet IS tough to start, it takes months to get a somewhat decent sound on it, that’s just the way it goes!
