Yeah I actually looked it up, and she was SEVEN years old when Bulls on Parade was released. So she probably didn't have much control over what she could listen to at that age. And by the time she was old enough to actually control her musical choices, that song was mostly off the radio. And also if her personal tastes just never leaned towards RATM, then yeah, it's entirely feasible that she's never heard it.
I believe her. We had more exposure to different styles and bands back in the day through tv and radio. Nowadays, people can streamline their specific tastes in music
Best part of the drums for me is the physicality of them and she embodies that so hard here. Right in the pocket and leaning into that snare drum hard. Just great to listen to.
She did a completely different interpretation of "Bulls on Parade", but that's what a good drummer should do: make it your own. That being said, I loved her version. Obviously, the original is phenomenal, but I loved her vision of what it could be. The way she ran through the quiet parts by bringing it down and also her Tom/Floor Tom fills were great! And the fact that she was beating those drums like they owed her money was crazy. I think that they are absolutely correct in that it was a completely honest take and she nailed it FIRST TIME ON ONE LISTEN!!! I'm def gonna look her up to see what else she's done as I'm not familiar with her.
She’s so beautiful damn. She’s a really really good drummer. The Summer Set took time off but their new album in 2022 was excellent. Her drums on it were fantastic. In my opinion she crushed this track, well done!
6:11 - Did you notice why the groove changed here? It was because her kick started following the bass line. That was the only guide she had on that part of the drumless track, so she followed it. 🙂
She's awesome. The song suits her style of drumming. She toured with Lights who is a Canadian pop musician and Jess raised the vibrancy and energy of the band.
She did AMAZING!!! Of course, I’m always especially impressed by drummers and their damned multitasking and coordination!!! I couldn’t do it! So glad there are people who can and they kick ass so we can all listen to it. 🤘🏼
Sydney, Australia here. I can believe that she had not heard the song. I hadn't. Maybe 2 years ago I found myself obsessed with a song that had previously eluded my radar, Killing in the Name... its the only RATM song I know but on watching this, there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that they were the artists, so no I can't believe that she had no idea who was performing it. I also have no reason to think that she's not being honest, I actually like that she doesn't know anything(at all) about RATM coz now I'm not the biggest freak in the room. For the sound alone their music is to me like electricity is to a light bulb. Thank you for the continual invitations to enter into the discussion, a very refreshing style.
Hi Northern neighbour from Melbourne! I grew up with RATM & all that went with it. I love drumeo for giving all these people an avenue to show off their chops
When Drumeo first started doing these - "drummer hears song for first time", they left the drum tracks in. So you had artists from different genres doing their take/interpretation of songs....but AFTER hearing the drums. The newer format, where they hear the track with NO drums is so much better and more interesting, because it gives them the freedom to interpret the music on their own and to infuse and enhance the song with their own "special sauce". And in many cases, they kill it. And she certainly did. Sometimes it's amazing how similar their take is and sometimes it's a totally different take. But it's always interesting and always leaves me respecting the original drummer and the one hearing the song for the first time. I hope they keep doing these.
Love the thumbnail brother....great "facial look of amazement".. she crushed it. WATCHING from Idaho Falls Idaho. Love Rage. Song pounds. Hard to believe she'd never heard it. The Bass line makes this song imo a little easier to work around.
I am a complete and willing simp for women rock climbers and drummers. when you were like “she hits hard” I was like “yeah look at her fuckn arms dude”
wow what a hard hitter.. She nailed it for real. enjoyed it from the very start.. Super clean. if I never heard the original . . I would still like it and felt that it fit well.. though the pause in the original always makes the difference..
The only RATM song I've heard is Killing In The Name, so I believe Jess when she says this is unfamiliar to her. I have zero coordination so me on a drum kit sounds like it's being pushed off a cliff, but I'm very impressed with her version of the song.
She did amazing especially considering she had never heard it before, it was her first attempt, AND she didn’t take any notes! If I were to grade her performance, I’d give her as high as 95%
The bass was calling for an half time on the ride. Especially on the guitar solo. While being a drummer i love, she remained deaf to the bass on this one.
California boy here. Grew up on RATM. Awesome take by her! Rage transcended sound. Was is funk, rap, rock. ... YES! Crappy thing is thier messgae is still relevant. And yes I do believe her. My kids generation always asks... who is that?
She did really good and didn't even take notes!! I'm impressed!
Just the pure joy on her face as she gave both the kit the song hell! ACE!
Nah, I'm super impressed she did as well as she did for a first attempt and not knowing the song or band. My hats off to her for sure.

she straight crushed it.. blown away.. love it..

I think she killed it
Solid drumming

Watching her makes me wanna play the drums! Hi from Portugal.
She's awesome. The song suits her style of drumming. She toured with Lights who is a Canadian pop musician and Jess raised the vibrancy and energy of the band.

Jess is such a good drummer. She impresses me everyday.

Hello from Bomb City, Texas! It was an amazing 1st. take performance !

Classic City GA listening to a great rendition of a good tune 👍👍👍
She did it really great! Nice video and I'm watching it from Brazil.
I’m a beginner drummer but I’m impressed. I still can’t believe she never heard the song before.
Love the thumbnail brother....great "facial look of amazement".. she crushed it. WATCHING from Idaho Falls Idaho. Love Rage. Song pounds. Hard to believe she'd never heard it. The Bass line makes this song imo a little easier to work around.
Like it! Great job IMO. Thanks Colby!
Hi from Poland! I can't play drums, but i enjoy watching drum cams. I like this series from Drumeo, since Domino SaintAntonio played Slipknot!
Nice video! Huge RAtM fan. Watching from Brazil
first wow then go listento her bands and this little super soft pop dancy drummer hits this hard with that much energy is like WHAT!?
She was awesome, as a person who just listened to the track first time and without drums... Crushed it! Best drum cover xD

Well i hadn't heard it until i watched her yesterday, I am 59 and only ever heard one RATM song. I loved what she did.
I love drummers that are super animated when they perform!
I am a complete and willing simp for women rock climbers and drummers. when you were like “she hits hard” I was like “yeah look at her fuckn arms dude”
I found Drumeo just this past weekend am I saw all these vids and they are fantastic!!

I'd never heard of her before I saw that video. She did an amazing job.
She killed it and I love the original and now I wanna see her with the band
She seems like she really is just having a great time. And she killed it.
I saw 3OH!3 multiple times at warped tour in high school. Probably a lot of fun drumming for them.
Great reaction! I think she killed it!
she definitely rocked it just listening once and beated without taking any notes.
I think she killed it for not knowing the song.
From West Kentucky here!!
Thats a tremendous interpretation!🎉
2nd Album I bought ever, great Song, she did well. This Album motivated me to keep on druming
ONE TAKE W.O NOTES?!?!
😮😮😮😮
KUDOS!! That was solid, imagine what she could do with sit down time and actually taking notes #WOW
Finland! love your videos!
wow what a hard hitter..
She nailed it for real. enjoyed it from the very start..
Super clean. if I never heard the original . . I would still like it and felt that it fit well.. though the pause in the original always makes the difference..
Yeah! Jess added her own spice to this song and straight up killed it. For a first attempt this was awesome.
More energy than the OG, not in a way that RATM fans would think is better I think, but I liked it.
I’m from Canada and some of the artists she plays for are Canadian, like Lights.
The only RATM song I've heard is Killing In The Name, so I believe Jess when she says this is unfamiliar to her. I have zero coordination so me on a drum kit sounds like it's being pushed off a cliff, but I'm very impressed with her version of the song.
I just watched this video she killed it!
Great tune she smashin it
She hits like Dave Grohl with same facial gestures. Incredible and her double snare fill suggestions are amazing.
She did SO GOOD! :D
Watching from Michigan
Very good 1st take with no knowledge, was a nice watch from New Zealand
yoo Im tuning in from Maui!
I think she did an amazing job.. if this is real and it was one take then power to her.. she hit it outta the park
She did amazing especially considering she had never heard it before, it was her first attempt, AND she didn’t take any notes! If I were to grade her performance, I’d give her as high as 95%
Believing that she never heard it before it makes seeing her go on a first take awesome. I almost like it better than original.
It isn't possible she's never heard this song before. Doesn't change the fact of how good it was..
Lights is amazing!
The bass was calling for an half time on the ride. Especially on the guitar solo. While being a drummer i love, she remained deaf to the bass on this one.
Love this song, and she was great.
She hits hard as hell I love it
Im not big on Summer set but she seems like a highly skilled and humble drummer.
Solid work
Iv seen Jess before she amazing! I’m from Australia 🇦🇺
She most definitely killed it
All I can say is .. she’s a really good drummer ..

Amazing first try/take by “feel”
California boy here. Grew up on RATM. Awesome take by her! Rage transcended sound. Was is funk, rap, rock. ... YES! Crappy thing is thier messgae is still relevant. And yes I do believe her. My kids generation always asks... who is that?
