I went to California from Ontario Canada back in 1976 for Christmas and believe it or not was given this whole 1976 locomotive train set for Christmas and had it for many years! Loved it, and was so happy to see this one up and running again! Great job!
I just found your channel. Great info. I have one of these locomotives from my childhood. That I recently found in the attic. It's going to need the geared drive wheels/axle. They are all falling apart. Both couplers are broken and missing also. Is there a parts source to get replacements?
I collect and run the at home. For serious model railroading I have modern DCC locomotives I run at the club. I can run them at home, but look better and can pull very long trains at the club.
For the love of God don't use sandpaper you wouldn't use that to clean your glasses would you, just baby while a wheel. I'm glad you ain't got a body grinder

Nice job, that locomotive has an almost intact seal decal👍looks good !
It's not bad. I have another and a 630 with perfect seals. I'm looking to get a full collection of the 430s, but that will take a while. Lol
Very Impressive! Great job on this Spirit of 76 loco! You are doing a fine job!!! That unit will run for many years! Bring on more content!
Thanks. 😀 More on the way. Train set video next.
@@VintageRoadRail BRING IT ON!!
Hello V R & R! Just popped in to check out your latest Vid. Good looking '76 Alco you have there. 🙂
Thanks. I'm a sucker for the C430 and anything Spirit of 76.

Awesome video thank you
I've got one of those and it runs, just missing all the hand rails. I tried to make some but failed miserably at that task. Cheers from eastern TN
Great video 😊
Nice job
Is it possible to swap out the rear truck with one that is motorized?
It can be done. Just have to make sure and wire it up right. In fact, originally, Tyco was going to do dual motors, but went cheap with only one.
@VintageRoadRail Thanks, I'll make a note of it so whenever I'm able to work on such a project, I know that question is out of the way.
Had this, turned it into a bnsf engine
That looks like a very high friction drive design...nothing like the current types with needle bearing pickups.🤨

I tended to clear coat locomotives like that to prevent the decoration from flaking off. A crossing works like a railer.
I have another 430 and a 630 spirit of 76 with perfect seals. Need to clear coat those to keep them intact.

It was very low grit, but I have since switched to a track bright
