Bad Yeti yes, the very same, renamed to Paddock Hill after a spate of copycat pirates tried to emulate and failed ultimately getting lost forever at the bottom to the Kraken! :D (no alcohol was harmed in the making of this reply)
This wasn't the worst trackday I've been to for people throwing their bikes, I did Rockingham a good few years ago on a forum members only trackday and because everyone sort of knew each other there was a lot of ego on the tarmac, I think that day had 13 red flags by lunch time!!!
Oh man, that was quite frustrating for a while, but that last lap - VERY nice riding - exactly what you want to do - almost perfect lines, a lot of speed when you had room, respect for other riders and kept it within the limits so no Triumph thrown down the track :) Honestly enjoyed watching that lap, could relate in how I think I'd like to approach the track if I ever get the chance. I think it was wise to do novice, but it didn't take you long (one decent run and a few other runs cut short) to show that you probably belong in a higher level - even after 6 years - your lines were noticeably better than the other riders' :)
CaptainCranky it was a little frustrating to start with but all good in the afternoon. The session I lost my helmet audio is probably going to be going up on Sunday as more of a raw session and less edited. I'll definitely book myself into Inters for any future trackdays I do now I am more used to the bike. Some of the corners I know I was weak on, so I'd like to get a bit of instruction on how to do them faster. Def need to stiffen up the suspension for the next one! :D
Looked pretty epic mate.... Don't think its for me really but I do love to see how people do on track days.. Totally different perspective from what we usually see you doing.. Cheers!
Trackdays are so much fun, but like you say, not for everyone.... although the relative safety of a closed circuit can really help build confidence in what your bike, and yourself are capable of! :-)
Well done - another great video :-) The narration while actually on track was great to include! (I'm not sure I would have the bandwidth to talk sense and ride at the same time on track..... I suspect the majority of what would be captured would just be expletives ;-) ) I hope you get on track again soon and get some decent track time.
PhilipT1970 cheers Phil, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to narrate as well as ride in a high pace environment either and I may have had to cut it to remove a few four letter words of excitement! Haha 😂
Hippo-Drones we had a Laverda 650 Formula and then a Ducati SS800, running on bioethanol fuel. Everyone else was running the Suzuki. I didn’t ride, just did a bit of pit crew technician stuff and spent money hahahah!
Good job overtaking those sports bikes on a naked bike. I’m reluctant to track my striple because of the wind blast on the straights, so I hire a track bike. Nice video, I’ve never had that many red flags.
I was in novice group, but the 765 is no slouch.... I have had unfaired bikes for many years, the wind blast is barely noticeable on track, it is only really when munching miles it can get tiring and even then as long as you regulate your speed it is pretty comfy even on the fruity side of 70! :D Hire bikes are a great idea, nothing to worry about and you get to play on some properly set up track bikes! :-) There was a lot of red flags in all sessions throughout the day, I hope no serious injuries.
We have just had a new circuit built here in South Australia, one of the longest in the world (I think) known as the Bend. I would love to do a track day one day, I just need to get the confidence up. Nice Video Mate
Loved the video mate, your audio is better than most of the pro's doing track days! I think you 'undersold' yourself mate...I can see the reasons you chose the 'novice' group, but, even watching you on the siting laps it was clear you could/ should have been in the Inters... it obviously came back to you quicker than you thought it might! Seemed like you had enough time on the track for your return... despite the red flag incidents.... hope everyone is OK.... atb
Thank you, I spent a few days on the road testing the setup out as it is different to my normal road setup for both cameras and audio. I actually miscalculated how long ago it was I last did a trackday, it was in 2014, not 2012 as I thought in the vid. I had only had the bike a month and my other bikes have less than 50bhp so was not used to riding fast, but yes, I think I could have held my own in Inters happily enough! Next one I do will be in Inters. I hope so too, never good for folks to have to leave via ambulance! :-( Cheers Paul. :-)
Ahh...I see. I'm a new sub, and didn't realize, but, I doubt any of the guys on the 'superbikes' would have known either, as you picked your moment and whizzed passed.... looked like you are well used to riding fast to me.... looks like you have jelled with the Triumph already... Nice job...
:-) The Triumph is a cracking bike, I really love it. I had contemplated the KTM 790 Duke, so glad I went with the Triumph! :-) Have you done many trackdays yourself?
Ha Ha!! You sussed me...not a one! I'm stuck on 44 bhp !!! Just seemed obvious from the off you were quicker and more knowledgeable, to my eyes at least. Always had a bike, so not really 'born again' but for various reasons I won't bore you with (life gets in the way sometimes!) not ridden much for a few years, but I've managed to get back out more the last couple of years, and I'm loving it, off to the Pico's tomorrow, so need to get to bed... First time abroad on a bike... atb
My other bikes are of the same power; a KTM 390 Duke and a Moto Guzzi V7, and I don't think either have ever really felt like they needed more power. Safe trip Paul.
Bar the mishaps of others, it looked a good day mate. Definitely need to look into a track day myself, especially as I only live 4 miles from Mallory Park.
Mallory is an awesome circuit once you get your head around it. It is bloody fast though, a proper rush! :D It was an amazing day, and just what I needed to get my head around making the 765 move! :-) I could have had another session at the end, but I tend not to ride the last session on a trackday these days.
The track is the safest place to explore the performance of your bike (not gonna be hypocritical and suggest I don't speed though). Trackdays are so much fun, I recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their road riding, or just likes the buzz of going faster than they could otherwise. The novice MSV days are a great way to do it too as there are no egos on them trying to prove how fast they are.
Cheers Andy, aye, I have to admit I was a little frustrated with them all but they are for our safety and I have been the cause of a red flag myself on my first trackday so I really should have been more understanding at the time. Do you have many tracks near you in Germany or are they all a bit far away from you?
You using an external digital recorder as I guess you had to bike mount the camera due to the new track rules. We got slapped with it on silverstone. Looks mega fun dude Well jel ❤️👍🏻
Aye, I quite like the audio quality, but not a fan of having wires between helmet and jacket, as shown in the vid, too easy to disconnect. Would love to use a head mounted camera on track, probs have to venture to Europe to do that though. Was bloomin awesome mate, great fun! :D
Hippo-Drones I’m sure they banned helmet cams after Schumachers GoPro paralysed him when he landed on it skiing. When I did silverstone I had a long mic wire under the petrol tank 🤣🤣🤣
Maka The Cornish Emmet I had thought about running the mic to the camera but then I'd have not just a cable from helmet to jacket, but to the bike as well which is not so convenient :-)
Now I have gotten a little more used to the bike I would choose to play in inters, I've not really had a bike that was fast for quite a while so wanted to get my head dialed in on this one. Def up for Inters sometime.
Bloody good job, well done mate. A bit frustrating in the morning but hey ho....I bet you lost a few pounds with sweating and hard cornering/braking?👏👍🏻😎
Thanks, I currently use a GoPro Hero 10 or an Insta360 One X2 as cameras. In this video, the audio was recorded from a lav mic in my helmet to a Tascam audio recorder in my pocket.
@Hippo-Drones maybe I need to try a tascam. I have a purple panda mic in my helmet recording onto my phone but after 40mph the wind noise is just awful!!
Had a look at the website and around 170 quid isn't as expensive as I thought. Even for like a couple of times in a year. Having all the gear and a bike for track is another question lol
Brands is not the cheapest circuit, Anglesey is possibly nearer you and that is a lot less normally! :-) Haha, aye, the gear is a must, but you can also hire bikes (which does add to the cost, but is also great value for money and saves tyre wear etc on your own bike).
Haha, on a day like this one was I try not to fluster the other riders if I can help it as there were a lot of wobbly riders.... as this one proved by going wide at Graham Hill bend! :-)
i did do a race school day years ago, it was a Ron Haslam race school, Niall mackenzie was actually one of the teachers then..good fun but it was expensive,i think track days could get addictive ..and expensive!
I once won a Sami Penna racing school training day in a raffle. He told me, that cruisers are too slow and will cause hazardous situations, when on track, at the same time, with sportsbikes. and I understand what he means too. Top speed differs by more than 100k
Are there not companies that let you hire track bikes? We have a few in the UK, makes it a load easier as all you need to worry about is turning up with a helmet and leathers! :-)
I have not heard of anyone. The only real racetrack we have here, rents out cars, but not bikes. We are far too small country, to have success with such business. And I completely forgot about the leathers. They won't allow you on the track in textile gear.
Ahh fuck, they are scary. A highside at Cadwell got me a 10 month break from work many moons ago, broke me back and pelvis.... was the last lap of the last session though so at least it didn't ruin the day! :D
One day that will be me(though god only knows which track as from here, umpteen hours ride to a circuit)You could easily improve on your laptimes simply by washing all those corpses off your jacket lol
Hippo-Drones TBH,not a clue. I live on the far western edge of the lake district (it's an hour's ride to the M6) so any trackday I attend wouldn't be all that enjoyable after that length of ride, especially the ride home after.
ChegsOn2Wheels I used to have a van which made further afield trackdays so much more pleasant as could travel to them the day before and sleep in the back of the van then after drive back in relative comfort. I'm looking to get a van again in a few years as they are so handy. You could possibly hire a van and do the same?
I'd still be fecked after the driving,I've been out on the CBR to SW Scotland(where I'd lived years back) I thoroughly enjoyed the entire day out,but got home & was so fecked I slept on the sofa. I also gave up driving any distances several years ago,as I've actually fallen asleep at the wheel so quit my HGV driving as since then,I've upped my meds thus increasing the chances it happens again. On the bike,I can't fall asleep lol. The only hassle after a long ride is having to groan & moan for hours due to all my muscles seizing/cramping & my spine creaking/clicking/clunking etc when the muscles pull it in a direction it has hated moving ever since the local drivers started using me as their crash-test dummy(eg:any)even if I was stationary! (I'm up at 12 crashed into me to date) I'm not bitter about in the slightest thou....lmao
haha, bloody hell - 12 folks have knocked you off!!! You must feel jinxed! I def feel a lot older and a lot less flexible these days, is why I don't ride "proper" sportsbikes anymore.
Isn't paddock also known as faceplant on a BMX? ;)
Bad Yeti yes, the very same, renamed to Paddock Hill after a spate of copycat pirates tried to emulate and failed ultimately getting lost forever at the bottom to the Kraken! :D (no alcohol was harmed in the making of this reply)
I've done a few trackdays at Brands Indy and there's always some hero binning it in the 1st session
This wasn't the worst trackday I've been to for people throwing their bikes, I did Rockingham a good few years ago on a forum members only trackday and because everyone sort of knew each other there was a lot of ego on the tarmac, I think that day had 13 red flags by lunch time!!!

That was awesome. Love just how much fun you have mate :) Goes to show how fit the Pro's are.
Bad Yeti aye, super fit to maintain race pace for 30 Odd laps.... I think my fastest pace would be just their warm up lap! 😂
Brilliant video watched it all! Really want to do this myself on my FZ1! Nice video buddy
The Don In London trackdays are so much fun, 100% recommend :-)
Looked pretty epic mate.... Don't think its for me really but I do love to see how people do on track days.. Totally different perspective from what we usually see you doing.. Cheers!

Brings back memories, it’s nearly 10 years since I was in the garages there when we had a mini twins team in Bemsee!
OldManTony mini twins are a fun series, some mates did it for a bit on SV650's :-)
Hippo-Drones we had a Laverda 650 Formula and then a Ducati SS800, running on bioethanol fuel. Everyone else was running the Suzuki. I didn’t ride, just did a bit of pit crew technician stuff and spent money hahahah!
OldManTony haha, weren't even racing and it cost you money! :D
Hippo-Drones bloody good fun though, we won quite a few trophies and came third in the championship one year.
That is quite impressive :-) I'd love to have given racing a go, not fast enough though! :-)
Good job overtaking those sports bikes on a naked bike. I’m reluctant to track my striple because of the wind blast on the straights, so I hire a track bike. Nice video, I’ve never had that many red flags.

Great stuff! Shame about all the red flaggage. I'm desperate for another bunch of track action!!

Good stuff Pete. Unlucky about the morning sessions. I think the inters is the better group to be in...
Maybe we can do Indy together one day ;)
Now I have gotten a little more used to the bike I would choose to play in inters, I've not really had a bike that was fast for quite a while so wanted to get my head dialed in on this one. Def up for Inters sometime.

ninjanelly350 I ached the next day like I had run 10km lol 😂 I so need to get fitter! :D
Holding his breath while riding :D
I was doing this initially - you have to breathe.
Hahaha, yes.... breathing is good! :D
Excellent audio. What's your setup?

Haha, on a day like this one was I try not to fluster the other riders if I can help it as there were a lot of wobbly riders.... as this one proved by going wide at Graham Hill bend! :-)
Nice one mate! pity they don't have a track like that in Scotland
Does Knockhill do bike trackdays?
yes, they also have a superbike school run by ex British superbike champ Niall Mackenzie
That could be worth a shot for you? I know it isn't a Brands Hatch, but still a good fun day thrashing! :-)
i did do a race school day years ago, it was a Ron Haslam race school, Niall mackenzie was actually one of the teachers then..good fun but it was expensive,i think track days could get addictive ..and expensive!
Aye, def addictive, and can get expensive too. I am limiting myself with them as I can't afford to do many.
I wonder if there are trackdays for extra ultra slow vehicles, like mine.
I've seen all sorts of bikes on trackdays! :D
I once won a Sami Penna racing school training day in a raffle. He told me, that cruisers are too slow and will cause hazardous situations, when on track, at the same time, with sportsbikes. and I understand what he means too. Top speed differs by more than 100k

unfortunately not (at least in the UK), leathers are a must!
I think there are killer bees there!
Stinks there were issues. Stay safe.
Anthony C. Roberson killer bees? 🐝
Hippo-Drones The buzzing of the bikes zooming by while you were talking.
Anthony C. Roberson hahaha 😂 they were making quite a racket! Bloody noisy bikers! :D
Who disliked this? 🙄
Good stuff mate! 👍
Haha, I am not sure, but both likes and dislikes all work in the creators favor wrt RUclipss algorithms I think :D
Ta mate :-)
Hahaha bloody Graham Hill bend. 😆
Psycho Paul have you been bitten by it in the past?
Hippo-Drones 😂😂😂 yeah.
ouch, not too badly I hope?
Hippo-Drones nearly highsided me. 🤬
Ahh fuck, they are scary. A highside at Cadwell got me a 10 month break from work many moons ago, broke me back and pelvis.... was the last lap of the last session though so at least it didn't ruin the day! :D
