- This is review of the brand new release, Crypt Custodian. It is an adorable metroidvania, available on PC and consoles.
Crypt Custodian footage is my own, recorded on an Xbox Series X. Music is from the game's soundtrack. I received a review key for this game from the developer.

A cat that works ? This really is fantasy ^^
Yay a Pam video on my birthday! This honestly looks great. And any game where you play is a cat is right up my alley. Thanks for the fabulous content as always!
Happy birthday! You deserve to treat yourself to a new game; you'll never forget it. 💯
Happy birthday!
Belated bappy of hirthday wishes to thee! Games where you play as cats are up your alley, you say... has Gori: Cuddly Carnage been on your radar, then?
The opening bass line never gets old. I miss it every time you release a video without it! 😭
I've had this one on my radar for awhile. I'm glad that it turned out to be as good as it looks. I'm falling in love with Metroidvanias this year.
There have been so many good ones lately.
As soon as you said it was made by the same guy that made Islets, I was SOLD- love that game!
You should play Sheepo as well, if you haven't.
@@Cannotbetamed1I thought Sheepo was a bit of a dud, there was something awkward about the jumping.
I tried to like it but there was something off.
It's like Root and Hyper Light Drifter went to Hades and spawned a little kitten.
I loved Sheepo and Islets, I can't wait to download this one and give it a spin. The designer does such an amazing job of creating fun and creative worlds to traverse and explore.
You play as a bipedal cat with a cloak that always looks surprised, have a broom as a weapon and fight cute ghosts? That's all I needed to know, sign me up :D
It's incredibly cute.
Getting strong Hyper Light Drifter vibes, and that's no bad thing
always enjoy your breakdowns
Looks fun! Not sure how I would find these games without your help! Some of my FAV games you found for me!!! Thanks
Happy to help!
Nice to spend some time guided through knowledge by your skilled voice.
You've been a bad kitty, but now you're "hiss-tory." From now on, your afterlife will be "cat-astrophic." Start sweeping right "meow." But if you do well, you can "claw" your way to the top. (I'm running out of cat puns, but I can scratch up one more) 😄
You'll claw out a new life.
Your videos are astounding Pam!
Wow, thank you!
Thanks for this neat review Pam!
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice! Looks like a combination of Hype Light Drifter, Dust Force, and Death's Door. :) May have to pick it up!
For months, I kept confusing Death's Door and Crypt Custodian, I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees a similarity.
Thanks for the Dust force reference, not heard of that one.
May I recommend Tails of Iron, it is a hidden gem.
@@mrmagoo-i2l Nice! I will check it out!
@@DrJ3RK8Hob is pretty good as well, it was a huge disaster that tanked the studio but I think it’s great.
Tails of Iron though, only game close to Hollow knight. It’s definitely in that league with maybe Katana Zero.
@@mrmagoo-i2l I just started Nine Sols. Just got through the tutorial, and a small start into the actual game. Not bad so far, but I'll need to play it a bit more before I know how it is fully. Once the controls are totally transparent to me, I think it will be quite enjoyable. It may be one of the very few games that I feel like maybe remapping a couple of buttons.
It looks like it feels really fluid to move around. I’m probably gonna pick this up. Thanks!
Have fun!
The top down platforming seems really smartly handled in this one. Plus it looks fun.
Interesting styles, I may have one or two at the moment that I'll post up to show you which is along more my style metroidvania.
Was looking forward to your thoughts on this one! Thanks Pam!
Pretty sure the dev is sick of the Hyper Light Drifter comparisons but I mean, it does have the vibe. I'm definitely getting it, because I loved HLD.
Honestly, over than the fact that they're both top down action games, I don't really see it.
@@Cannotbetamed1Come on Pam, no way.
Other than the light shift that you can spam in HLD, and a jump in the Z axis in Crypt Custodian they are practically identical.
Both great but, the music in HLD does it for me. The tragic synthwave fits perfectly.
Metroidvanias and Cats. 2 of my favorite things
Kinda interested in snagging a physical of this. Looks like a ton of fun.
Can I blame you for me wishlisting a lot of metroidvanias (let's say I have 100 wishlisted items, a considerable percent are metroidvanias), and I mean a LOT but only 100% Yuko's ? Anyways here we go again,
Blame away!
The presentation reminded me a lot of Hyperlight Drifter.
Hmmm...
reminds me of bastion
Reminds me a little of Death's Door
I'll need to pick it up!
this looks really cute, but I just lost a black cat unexpectedly so I don't know if I can handle this game right now.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I've 100% this game and now trying to get the PlayStation platinum trophy. To do that, I have to defeat all the bosses on every difficulty with an S+ ranking... It is VERY hard 😭
My Metroidvania leader.
town-down platforming still works a lot like 2D platforming, because it basically is, though.
It's true 3D platforming and especially first person platforming that I think is obnoxious to control.
Yay! Love pam videos
Yay, thanks!
Pam ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Pam! Lovelly game, I would like to know if is there any way to reach you to talk about an indie game, have a good day!
That was a great video, Pam!
I’m playing a Metroidvania called Recompile. Have you heard of it?
I've heard of it, but I never played it.
I just finished it again and I wondered if you have tried Shantae and the seven sirens? It’s a short but fun Metroidvania.
Hmm... I tried one Shantae game, but I don't remember which.
@@Cannotbetamed1
- If it had very blocky pixels: That's the first one
- If it had a pirate ship on legs as the first boss fight and more refined pixelly art style, that's the second one (Risky's Revenge)
- If it started with dudes in blue uniforms trashing the town and had Shantae team up with Risky: That's the third one (Pirate's Curse). Has about the same art style as Risky's Revenge.
- If it started out with a dream sequence (i think), it was Half-Genie Hero. From here on the art style is drawn 2D.
- If it had about five other gals like one with three-part big blonde pigtails and a zombie genie, it was Seven Sirens.
Wait, cat that died? Was it its first death, or ninth?
I'm with the Last Boss, I just can't Win 😢
Unrealistic premise: there's no such thing as a bad cat.

Welcome to the channel!
Out of curiosity, do you play any VtM or D&D on pen and paper?
Cool
Looks a treat and I vibe with the story and gameplay. Engine-wise, though, please... I wish there would be more innovation here. Unity and Unreal need to be pensioned permanently.
Unity does, it has a tick rate of 50Hz, it causes judder. It made Dave the diver unplayable for me because of frame persistence in the background.
Only a major issue with parallax graphical elements really. So not a problem in this.
+1 for having difficulty settings you can change on the fly. All games should have this. Even souls games. It's basic and OPTIONAL QoL, FFS.
Playing on switch but you can’t walk down unless you use the d pad. It’s strange
Infamous 1 & 2 and Sunset Overdrive are a few of my favorite games. Any recommendations? Nothing hard like souls like
Saints Row 4 for ridiculous action and superpowers.
Hi-Fi Rush for a similar vibe to Sunset Overdrive.
@@Cannotbetamed1wow thanks I will check those out!!!
Woo hoo
Cute pam🌹 cute game 😁

Pam 🤤
Mewo has been very, very bad
Blasphemy. All cats are good cats.
Well, actually, metroidvania isn't a genre. It's either Metroid-like, or Castlevania-like. But this is clearly a Zelda-like. It's understandably confusing, since all these games were from 1986.
Shut up
@@Cannotbetamed1 hahahahahah nice!
@@zellar1Yeah, well deserved.
Hahaha.
