Incredible. Absolute solid performance from beginning to end. No awkward “robot walk” at the start. The kata was declared clear and strong, rather than some inaudible, obnoxious scream. His movements were fast and very powerful without abusing dramatic pauses. Just overall very natural. If only this were the standard for tournament performances instead of the superficial, overly snappy ways of today.
totally agree, WKF elite overact they performance, walking like robots, like soldiers, with angry faces, extra long kiai, excesive pauses in the slow movements, technically perfects but doing theater,
I just started back training after 14 years absence, and re-learnt Sochin the other night. I thought I would use youtube to find a video to help me with certain parts of the kata where I needed extra work and WOW what a video to stumble across ... this is by far the best Sochin i have ever seen anywhere live or video, my hat off to you Tsuchiya. Much respect and appreciation for your karate.
I strongly agree. The beauty of nature is within its imperfection. All the minor flaws from human performance balances one's extreme ideal of seeking perfection; robots, can be relatively flawless, but also lifeless. This is a beautiful Kata performance.
Este es el mejor sochin que hay en internet, espiritu, ritmo, tecnica pura , kime y una ejecucion de exhibicion sin el estres de la competencia, ARTE PURO!
He's whiplashing the first punch. If you watch, you'll see he telegraphs the first punch each time by winding the punch up with a slow leading of the shoulder. He uses this to effect the whiplash that enables him to snap the fist back extremely quickly, and the other one out.
...(continuation) It's in the "show" that is put up, some techinques are modified to be more spectacular (i.e. jodan yoko kekomi instead of yoko keake in Gankaku), sometimes the rhythm of the kata is changed to be more "dramatic", things like that. But the basic principles of karate (technique, speed, power, kime) are the same and should be followed in the same way, regardless of whether you're a traditionalists or a modern practicioner.
great kata, very powerful, great stances. easily one of the best katas i have seen. anyone who hates on this, and i mean hate, not criticize, can you do a kata this good?
I'm no expert but that looks like a pretty decent rendition of Sochin to me. If you like this chaps kata then I suggest you also Google Kurihara Sochin, who is (or was) JKA kata champion. It would be interesting to see these two compete against each other. I'd reckon there's not much between them.
It's awesome, no doubt about it. My only little detail is that he lets his right arm fall away from his body during the first side kick. Still, I could not dream of doing it better!
Yes i do agree, I actually prefer the more traditional look in katas as you can see each technique has meaning and has application. Looking at the more sport oriented katas in the WKF, they look flashier because the focus is on performance, so yes valdesi or antonio diaz would beat someone like him easily, but you don't see each technique having meaning like you would in a kata like this.
Shotojojo: We are comparing competitors from different arenas. I'm from a traditional background where kime stems from the hara (center), not just from the extremities. The WKF has different criteria from traditional Shotokan karate. To each his own.
Now, if traditionalists say they really are "living" the fight when they perform a kata, I ask them whether they think they could make it in a real situation with slow transitions between stances. In a real situation, speed and reaction are the most important and I think traditionalists lack that. Please compare Valdesi's speed of transition between stances with Tsuchiya's and tell me which one do you think has a better chance to surprise an opponent in a real situation?
Wow. Having read all the criticisms to Tsuchiya's Sochin, I can only think that there are a huge number of finely tuned karateka surfing RUclips looking to correct some crappy efforts like the one shown here. Great job people!
apart from pronouncing being something born from the competitions (I guess) pronouncing in yohi is quite strange actually since entering into yohi means you have started. It would make sense to pronounce before starting. right?
It's nice to see there are people here that can respond in a purely technical manner to a purely technical comment and not start with the "can you do it better?" crap. In my opinion, the difference between traditional and sport karate should have nothing to do with technique, speed, power and kime. These should always be present in a kata. Traditionalists focus more on power and on "living" the kata, but they are quite slow in their movements, especially in the transition between stances.
Great performance of a true martial artist! People post their videos for the world to enjoy them, not to have novices post their "stupid" comments/criticisms. You're not even commenting on the video, but on the commentors' comments themselves, how stupid is that?
Kata doesn't just mean an imaginary fight. A simulated fight with boxing techniques is not a kata. "Living" the kata is not the only thing. A kata means technique, power, speed and kime. Let's analyse this kata and see how many flaws he has: 1. For all the double gyaku-zuki's, his legs are like spagetti and he lifts his heels. 2. His fudo dachi is incorrect: his front leg is leaning towards inside and it's also not aggressive enough (it should be more bended). His back foot is also too open.
Finally, please don't compare Valdesi with Milon. Have you ever been near Milon when he did a kata? I'm telling you, I was literally scared! The guy really lived his katas and he had such explosion in his movements that one would have really been afraid to stand close to him. No exaggeration, but you literaly felt the ground shaking around him.
@aquariaman3 I'm not going to say what I think about your IQ, I'm just asking you this: if your favourite football team has a bad match, aren't you allowed to criticize the players just because you can't play better? Or if you hear someone sing badly, aren't you allowed to express your opinion just because you can't sing better? If a computer software is poor, aren't you allowed to say it just because you can't write a better one yourself? The examples can continue, I hope you got the point.
I REALLY dislike Valdesi. All style and no substance. Stupid unnecessary pauses and "angry" facial expressions. If he did his Sochin at the JKA, he'd get laughed out of the dojo !
And one more thing to reiterate: a clean technique should not be associated to either traditional or modern style. Karate's basic technical principles are the same. Gyaku zuki is the same, age uke is the same, zenkutsu dachi is the same... Legs should not move in a stance, feet should be firmly rooted, every technique should be executed as fast and as powerful as possible, there are no exceptions. The difference between traditional and modern karate is somewhere else...
best sochin ever performed. fucking amazing
That is amazing human..... something so honest about him compared with the tounament stuff ive seen

@@kitakachidoki Glad to find others that view Kata in a similar way.
Tantos idiomas y hablas con la razón
Best Sochin i ´ve ever seen. Amazing.

I can't believe what I just saw. This is the best Sochin i've ever seen

Best Sochin...especially the double punch part...the speed & power are so perfect....
He's like a machine! Very precise, and you can feel the power behind every one of his movements.
Damn this was just so plain natural! Hands down!
wow, so fast..usually guys that fast have weak looking kata, but he kept it very traditional..amazing
This video always motivates me to train. Thank you!
I always watch it again when I need a bit of courage.
I feel the same way. The power evident in the kata makes me feel like I can do more :)
I like your Sochin, Mr. Tsuchiya. Very good performance.
I just put it on my list of favourite katas.
Greetings from Spain.
He's whiplashing the first punch. If you watch, you'll see he telegraphs the first punch each time by winding the punch up with a slow leading of the shoulder. He uses this to effect the whiplash that enables him to snap the fist back extremely quickly, and the other one out.
Amazing. Any system of Martial Art can see the focus and beauty here.

Stunning, absolutely awesome Sochin.
great kata, very powerful, great stances. easily one of the best katas i have seen.

arhh amazing
hear that snap of the suit on each technique ahhh such a gud kata amazing :)
his punches are absolutely incredible!!!
This is totally awesome!!! It's very amazing. I hope I can do this kata just like him.
Love the first punches! What power!
It's awesome, no doubt about it. My only little detail is that he lets his right arm fall away from his body during the first side kick. Still, I could not dream of doing it better!

I keep coming back to this video, just amazing
This is how everybody should preform the original Sochin kata...JKA style! Great!
awesome strikes! you gotta love the sound it makes
Kime incrível 👊👊👊
Breathtaking and inspiring.
Это лучшее исполнение «Сочин»!!!
Solid, stong performance with great kime and stances. One to aim for!
alto sochin uno de los mas potentes que vi,realmente inspirador, ooss

This is karate. Lots of power. Awesome.
He is so god damn amazing!!!
Very strong and crisp Sochin!
yes but Tsyuchiya competed in the 2004 WKF World Championships and was eliminated by Valdesi.
Fast and strong, i love it !!!!
Ous! indeed best sochin kata ive seen in a longtime..
the best sochin i have ever seen!
This is the best sochin I have seen.
@chillcrewgodfather You would probably like Osaka Sensei's Sochin, too, and Kankudai, both of which are on youtube, I believe
It would make sense to pronounce before starting. right?
i would not like to think i had to follow that... brilliant..

Muy bueno me gustó, excelente kata, habría sido perfecto si mirára antes del ataque. Al no hacerlo queda la sensación de artificial. Saludos de Chile.

Excelente, nota 10...... alain guimarães, Catanduva , SP/BR
nice kemae! i want my kemae as snappy as that, possibly even more so..
looks like he prefers kumite tho lol
Absolutely magnificent !!!
This is a solid performance.
Amazing.. perfects
Very good, very powerful as it should be
best sochin i've ever seen
Pure art.
Would a 1959 version "Old Sochin" JKA Shotokan Karate Kata be considered "real Shotokan"?
La classe, déglingue tout ce kata !!!
Hideto Tsuchiya - Sochin - From JKS 👊🏼ss !!! 🇧🇷
They should make more videos of Tsuchiya!

More bent, not bended.

@zoom421
I can see the kime... by the snapping sound of the gi~! Some just try to make it loud with loud breathing.... :(
@aquariaman3 I'm not going to say what I think about your IQ, I'm just asking you this: if your favourite football team has a bad match, aren't you allowed to criticize the players just because you can't play better? is it regular in Shotokan to pronounce the kata after yohi?
عمل رائع
This is the real Shotokan. Valdesi is sportified Shotokan, with no internal kime.
@juliem59 ok, but it's like a zenkutsu. Thats what i can see
(sorry for my english.)
correction to the last comment: " but his performance is still cleaner and more dynamic than Tsuchiya's."
impresionante !!!!!!!!!
nada ke criticar
Just awesome!
Very good. But Sochin is in Fudo Dachi, not Zenkutsu.
Oss!
My favorit Kata
Dam good KIME and BUSHIDO: Thumbs UP!!
Еven mentioning the name of valdesi under this video is already an insult toward traditional Karate.
Valdesi is like sneezing - fast but not harmful
I REALLY dislike Valdesi. All style and no substance. Stupid unnecessary pauses and "angry" facial expressions. If he did his Sochin at the JKA, he'd get laughed out of the dojo !
Brilliant.
Exelente...Oss..
IMPRESIVE!
Look at that hand speed!
He is the voice.. behind "FUS RO DAH" !!
@FeddePerez
He is doing fudo dachi.
You may want to watch Osaka Sensei performing Sochin.
Brilliant perormance
brilliant

great! you are awesome!
awsome kata
awesome!
Extraordinário!
Great kata. Oss!
OSS!!! Stronger than Luca Valdesi. No disrespect intended. Just my personal opinion.
Believe the unbelievable...
its like gun fire with his steps and punches he must be Thor
monster, no it isnt... its an understatement...
@Larloch80 :) yes this kata is pure
This is very good performance no doubt but Osaka sensei's kata is more mature and technically more complete due to greater experience.
@chillcrewgodfather I call it the best kata ever made ;)
Without a doubt, Tsuchiya is way much better than Valdesi!
