Music video by The Jam performing In The City. (C) 2001 Polydor Ltd. (UK)
One of the greatest bands the UK has ever produced...
Thee greatest ..
Nous sommes d'accord
They are the best band in the world... Please don't say you think stone roses are better, stone roses are awful .
Notherners usually prefer stone roses, they are absolutely shit in my opinion.
The world
So glad I made y son listen to The Jam on the way to school!!! He didn't have a chance, now he actually likes them!! That's how I know I'm a good Dad!!!!
got three adult sons who love them .force fed in their youth
My dad Plays the Jam and the Stone roses in the car everyday and now I’m addicted to 70’s and 80’s rock and roll
And I’m glad
My seven years old daughter sings along The Modern World and London Traffic.. Such a good father I am..😎😎😎
Rock and roll is the best education our sons and daughters can have!
Lol .. Same here .. two sons brought up on the finest!
Paul Weller is most definitely one of the preemptive songwriting legends of his and any generation.
Over 4 decades too - & still cranking out quality sounds.
One of my all time favourite Jam songs...Still sounds fresh today...Timeless Classic in my opnion :)
The power and energy of the punk era has never been reproduced I'm so glad I lived through the great bands that were around then
Was a punk in 1976 aged 16 and saw all the bands it was a great time to be young and living in London
sounds as fresh today as it did back then. The Jam were unparalleled. Exactly how you want your teenage heroes to be.
Two amazing frontmen who have so much swag and then theres Rick who always make me smile....... he is so in control and makes it look like a cakewalk. What a band, pure class.
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris.
@@geraldsucks Thanks! Will she him out:)

Lucky to be a teenager in the late seventies and grow up with the jam....
Every song carries meaning and evokes emotion......A very special band who moved a generation.....and continue to do so.....

Best band to come out of punk despite not being a punk band
@@rorogogo6241 no 77 is the year in which the album 'In The City' was released, punk scene started out in 76 with 'Ramones' self titled debut album. I hear the influence of Ramones in The Jam's sound however they give it their own twist with meaningful and system criticizing lyrics. Love 'The Jam' 'The Clash' 'Ramones' All great bands that did the musical revolution.
I don’t care if people insists in calling this “new wave”. For me The Jam will always be a punk band.
@@carl_anderson9315 - They were a Mod band. They dressed like Mods, had more haircuts and even did Kinks covers. I don't know how old you are but there was a Mod revival at the same time as Punk in the UK. There was also Ska going on.

Not or never a punk band , the jam had their own sound , music about life,
@@AnyoneCanSee yeah whatever but if you like punk in that era you will probably like the Jam.
This is why The Jam were in a league of their own . So pleased i witnessed them live on many occasions . Still my favourite song . The aggrestion and power in the vocals is so refreshing . The legacy still intact . Shame they are not all friends , would have been great to see them chat and laugh about their glory times . Not to reform thou . Think it would be just great to see them together .
Paul weller is simply the MOD father of a true iconic age and time in music and style
Well shot video. Of course, with this band, just get out of the way, and let them shine. This song could be uninteresting in another band's hands, but the energy, tightness, and Weller's huge voice, and smart lyrics make it go the distance to great. What a rhythm section. Explosive. That Rickenbacker is really something else. This is the Byrds mixed with the Ramones. The engineer NAILED the drum, snare and bass sound. SO well produced, a good sight better than many other punk rock recordings. Must've been someone REAL good at Polydor who actually got how good this band could be.
The Jam, Style Council, Paul Weller . . . Wonderful!!!!!!!!
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris.
My love for The Jam is huge. What a band!
The essence of rock in a song
I have to say my favourite jam track , it’s full of energy hate life, simply my youth and the greatest band ever by far
C'est la classe totale. C'est brutal, définitif, ça s'impose. Un jaillissement.
The Jam really processed the Beatles and brought out something really uptempo just a few years on... soooo cool 😎
Impossibly Brilliant..drums,bass,guitar and sounds like an 'orchestra' of passion.
Oh boy how I miss those days when you know you’re witnessing something beautiful history in the making nothing has ever been bettered and I think sadly those times have gone but I feel very honoured to have been there please please people be the cool grandparents who share their experiences and cd.’s with your grandchildren and never let these days go passed
The hook , the riff , the performance, just perfect.
It's like The Clash but with the Sex Pistols thrown in
@@omegajrz1269 Steve Jones nicked this riff for Holidays in the Sun.
One of the best tracks ever made full stop.
Absolutely-The Jam one of Britain's greatest Mod Bands-Paul Weller the Modfather

1:13 makes me cry with joy. Raw talent
JUST PURELY PERFECT...CHEERS FOR THE MEMORIES LADS AND FOREVER KEEP ON JAMMING❤
At the end of the Radio 4 news when the newsreader says, "In the City..." my head goes, "there's a thousand things I want to say to you." Every. Single. Day. Not complaining :)
Absolute amazing track! takes me back to teenage years being rebel and trying to escape everywhere and only finding peace in art class listening to this music when painting..
I loved Down In The Tube Station At Midnight.
OMG…the jam with burgundy Rickenbacker…supreme!!!
It's Weller's first Rickenbacker, but I can't understand if it's a burgundy or a ruby red finish...
The best band ever.
So much intensity in this performance...jam bammm!!! Paul, Bruce & Rick..👏👏👏
Have to be the best band ever, nobody can top these boys ever ever ever
You just know that Weller and The Jam are gonna be big and around for a long time...
One of England’s 🏴 finest
I want to be born this era.
The Best!!!
the jam is best mod band ever . mod it's a way of life . God bless the queen x
Nichola Bentley ... Nicola .. what has Elton John got to do with mod? lol...
This song change my life.. made me who I am to a large degree.. justified the way I felt, empowered my anger. At the time the radio would hardly play this stuff.. you'd catch it maybe once or twice a week.. when you did hear it it was a fkn adrenalin rush.. like a call to action. With this song in my head I could take on the whole fckn world and come out smiling. Thank You Mr Paul Weller, Mr Bruce Foxton and Mr Rick Buckler.. your contribution cannot be quantified.!!
i don't like that word 'mod' but i think he's a good punk. he has a style and level, i think mod means a decent punk. at least he doesn't steal riffs like s3x 'talentless' pistols or write utterly meaningless lyrics like ramones beside straight forward song making.. they all are still alive yet jam disbanded way earlier than this date. whatever paul weller rocks
Once a mod always a mod 54 now stil dress it love it
@@sonjoestar3613 I like how you censored the word sex, very class. Also the S3x pistols as you like to call them were not talentless and had one of the best frontmen in all of rock history and one of the 100 best guitarists of all time according to rolling stone. They only recorded one official album that is still praised as one of the best albums of all time and have had an iconic legacy for decades now and they hold a well deserved place in the rock and roll hall of fame as do the Ramones.
And the Jam did?
How good is this. From a 19 year old. Legend
Great singles band ..Weller what a talent
超カッコいい!!
Timeless classic. Saw them in Carlisle and Sheffield. Both great concerts.
Since I was 15 (I am nearly 17 now but 16 at the moment) I listen to them everyday best band ever!
Them words at that age from Weller! Saw them in Leeds in 82 at 14 !
These lads made so much sound you'd think there were 5 of 'em.
A punk classic, and still sounds great since 1977.
Will never be betan
My fave track by this band. It's a mix of pure chaos and musicality.
if you like this you might like my brothers music. his name is Stu Morris.
Very good clip. Love it how it’s neither black-and-white nor color, but something in between. Really beautiful footage.
Love the attacking bass line, it really drives this song

Totally agree with you all! Best band and were amazing in concert!!
Get in there best tune they ever did ive been with them from day one 🛵😎✊🇮🇪
You have good taste in music KTF
Happy 44th birthday In The City album. Still sounds boss.
His Modness at his supreme best.
The best British band ever.
Not even remotely close
Punk rock my arse! Accomplished musicians all!!
For the English people who read this: there are bands from your country (like this one), that are so, so good, that I don't understand why they weren't ultra successful in America. Other great examples: The Cult, Bauhaus, Adam and the Ants, Joy Division, T. Rex, King Crimson...
Happy nappy 44 years "In the city" ;-)
fcuking amazing

I REALLY LOVE THE BRITISH ROCK SINCE THE BEATLES UNTIL TODAY!
Love the raw sound
Young, energic & legit.
Saw them a couple of times during This is the Modern World tour iirc. In the City was their best album....I wore my copy out it was on the turntable so much!
In the city there's a thousand things I want to say to you
But whenever I approach you, you make me look a fool
I wanna say, I wanna tell you
About the young ideas
But you turn them into fears
In the city there's a thousand faces, all shining bright
And those golden faces are under twenty-five
They wanna say, they gonna tell ya
About the young idea
You better listen now you've said your bit-a, go!
And I know what you're thinking
You still think I am crap
But you'd better listen, man
Because the kids know where it's at
In the city there's a thousand men in uniforms
And I've heard they now have the right to kill a man
We wanna say, we gonna tell ya
About the young idea
And if it don't work, at least we said we've tried
In the city, in the city
In the city, in the city
In the city there's a thousand things I want to say to you
banda fantástica
I'm reading these comments and yearning to have been a teenager in the late 70s but this song was released 31 years before I was even born :'(
I was lucky enough to be at the high school when The jam was just making it, and even luckier to meet them getting on a coach after they'd played at Bridlington spa, I don't think they could really understand my broad Yorkshire accent but I think they and I got the jist of it all.
same missed out on all the good music
Grande! Paul Weller

Those Rickenbackers, loved The Jam!

I too grown up to listen to the Jam and still the best ever
I could listen to this all day.....
Holidays in the sun perfected that riff
I really like this group
Yeah! As a school kid in late 70’s/early 80’s this band helped to properly turn me on to music (Punk, Mod etc)….the Pistols, the Damned, Small Faces, the Who….!!!!
Miffs me when people say The Jam weren't a punk band. If this song doesn't epitomise the punk rock style then I can't name a song that does.
Every note is still right when you are 9 years old or 53.
The jam refresh the parts other bands cannot reach
IN A MOD WE TRUST
My favourite Jam song
Love the energy....
Lucky to be 16 in 1977👍

Fantastic intro!!!!!!
Bought this single back in high school. And I like their dress style.Suits and ties fantastic. Blows away the sloppiness of today's youth.
oh, yes again, it's the best band
I was a early 70s lad . Nothing could touch my slade sweet t rex until the jam .
今53歳で上の人が聴いていたとき知り非常にカッコいい曲😊と思い聴いていた
Ricks sunglasses 🕶 very cool!
Both my sons had to listen to the jam when in the car they realised what quality they were
power trio
This is another band I’d love to reform just a Album & British Tour . Tickets would go in minutes .
Old men who try to simply replay the glory of their youth really do risk spoiling both the past, and the present...
I think Weller in particular is much too clever to ever consider such an anathema - a bunch of elders shouting about A Town Called Malice and Down In a Tube Station?....In the lifetime, since, Weller has given not one indication of being the type of man who's interested in anything that even resembles that, so I don't think so.
Holidays in the sun
You have hit the nail on the head, bro
@@francescoripa1609 Game recognise Game 🤙
I saw Bruce live 2 days ago! Amazing
Great song 🎵ever ever 🎵
Happy birthday Paul Weller 25 /5 /58
Truly awesome
Incredible band !!!!!!!
Dear lord why they do not form bands such as this ! Love the jam
Because it's now 40 year old music. There are bands like this, but they're playing 40 year old music, not brand new never heard before sounds. Rock has basically closed its circle, like jazz did before it. No big deal, but stop pretending music will ever 'mean' anything again.
A great song with super guitar sound. Paul i love you
A bloody tight band
Tried to get my hair like that - never quite managed it. Still got Weller's autograph on an old pound note.
Im 15 writing this during May 2020 in lockdown, i should be doing school work but i just find myself listening to the jam and the beatles the greatest bands ever. EDIT: lol just came back and saw this haha. didn’t know then that i should have written “first lockdown” for future reference 😑😂
Hahhah me too👊🛵
yeah, same
Good boy!
Me too mate
Don’t let school get in the way of proper education
