Mia Morris / music vlog ep. #34 “The Grand Ole Opry”

- Опубликовано: 26 авг 2021
- The Grand Ole Opry is part radio show, part live concert, part TV show and part history lesson. It’s been around almost 100 years and it’s hard to overstate it’s impact on country music. Over the years, the physical show has taken place at several different venues with a long run at my favorite venue in Nashville, Ryman Auditorium. The first part of this vlog takes place at the Opry’s current home, the Grand Ole Opry House, which is part of a larger complex that includes a hotel, a mall with a huge indoor garden and sometimes even an ice skating rink.
I’ve gotten chances to run around back stage at the Opry through several of my musician friends over the years but this was the first time I got to be part of the show. Kalie Shorr asked me to play cajon with her on one song during a 3-song set she performed with Butch Walker. Kalie has made many appearances in my vlogs over the years and has always gone out of her way to help me. She and her manager Todd have been a major force championing all women in music and have been a big part of my story so far in Nashville.
Butch Walker is a musician and singer but he’s probably best know for his work as a producer. He’s produced many bands including songs with Green Day, Weezer, Pink, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco. The rest of this vlog covers some other shows I had at the Listening Room and playing bass for Callista Clark. If you follow me, you know all about both of those subjects. If this is your first vlog of mine, then you might enjoy going back to the beginning :)
I’m 17 years old and I’m a professional musician. I try to play lots of instruments but the ones that I feel most at home on are drums, cajon and bass. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend a lot of my time writing and recording. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 6 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing music, keep loving it and keep getting better.

Unbelievable I am so happy for you!! Always remember you made it on the Opry stage with your talent and not a push by big money!! Please take time and be proud of you!!
Thank you Blaz - with all I've learned about the biz, this comment has pretty profound meaning for me. I truly appreciate that and I will :)
17 yr old Jr in High school ✓played the Opry✓ played for Kelly n Ryan in NYC✓ flying around the country playing Bass and percussion✓.... releasing gobs of original content on RUclips over 50k subscribers✓ ..that's not even half the checks you've racked up! Just keep rolling man and do everything you can; you already know you can handle it and your subs love it. No limits except what your heart tells you...keep doing that MM! Happy Weekend!
:D I like how you make that sound - thanks. I'm on it!!
@@miamorrismusic 👍
The Opry. You've performed there. You're not only beautiful and wildly creative, you shine like a star. And what you need more than anything is yourself and a small backing group. It's truly nice to be multitalented. But I think it is more important there, at the Opry, using that beautiful voice sing your creative songs. There are exceptional musical moments in your songs. Let it out. Thanks. D

@@miamorrismusic Your very welcome. Be safe as the heavy rain moves through from Ida. I remember the tornado that hit the Basement East which you mentioned in Vlog #29. Please take precaution to keep your family and yourself safe from any flooding, like Tennessee needs anymore rain like this at this point!!!
Never say never Mia!!!! And NOW!!! on stage at Opray!!!!!! Do you remember our conversation about you not thinking about performing up there!! LOL 😆 You now got your foot in the door!!!!! Thanks for sharing this and have a wonderful weekend 😀 💞✌

@@miamorrismusic you welcome :)
I especially like the "look at Brake sleeping" capture every vlog!
it's becoming a favorite of mine as well :D hopefully, he'll continue to provide material. i've considered a montage of, "i'm gonna take a power nap" quotes but i just don't film enough to catch them.
Hey Beautiful! Happy belated 17th Birthday! Fun watching you continue to grow and perform! Keep up the hard work! You are on the way to stardom! Much love!
Thank you Larry.
More power...luv...and blessings to u mia
👍 WOW the best honer ever played the Grand ole Opry, Congratulations.
thank you JR.
@@miamorrismusic Well in actuality, reality Mia has not been a "Kid" since 12 years old; especially as seen in her posted videos from that age 🙂
Mia has been a Young Lady, Princess, and continues to mature, develop, more with each year, gig, tour, involvement, production, composition, video, etc.
Now since that year, including a set of performances on AGT [disappointing replies from Simon & Howie (obvious internal and self contradictions, thus pre-arranged) though Heidi, Sofia and certainly the Crowd were all extremely positive, excited, entertained, enjoyed] (certainly more developed maturity and realization how 'fixed', 'rigged' that show is actually, as many other excellent performers, including professionals (often invited), maestro, virtuoso, extremely creative, original [as Yourself]
Now You have certainly reached a more mature, young woman age, with more continued success, creativity, originality, expression. All of these experiences can only add to Your personal experience thus repertoire.
Much continued Success within each, every, all of Your Quests, Health, Happiness and Well Being, Sincerely 🙂
That's a serious milestone right there. Congrats Mia !
thanks Sammy!
Awesome Vlog. Mia. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your vlogs are so much fun.
That's friggin awesome!
:)
Congratulations on such a major step up the ladder!
You can be proud of that, as you would not have anyone helping you along if you didn't show such talent and commitment. This is your achievement.
I knew you'd get there, and I confidently predict the next step will be with you inviting musicians to back your own set on that stage, and not before very long, either.
I'd love to be in a position eventually to return the many favors I've benefited from - thanks.
Thanks for the video - The Grand Ole Opry... oh wow... this is a nice video
thank you - really glad you like these.
Your Awesome Mia❤️
Awesome Love it Sooo Cool to see the Grand Ole Opry, such a Amazing talent Mia!!!🙌😍♥️💗🥰⚘🎶🎤🎹🥁🎸💞🌟🌠🤠

Mia, you’re an inspiration to many ! Please be safe in all you do and once again, thank you for bringing us your wonderful talent.
♥️brian
that's a very kind comment, thank you Brian. It's been, and looks to continue to be a busy time but I'm loving what I'm doing :)
Well done kid. Won't be long till i can't call ya kid anymore so I gotta get em in now. 👏👏👏
:) that's fair.
Every Friday, there's Mia - Living the dream.
So Cool! Stay safe!❤
Hey, Mia !! Exceptionally Nice as Always !! A Good Weekend to You and Your Family !! ✌️😃🌅🎶🌺💖
Looks like you’re getting a lot of exposure/experience Mia. Your parents must be really cool people to support you as much as they do. You’re literally all over the place. It’s never boring and neither are you ! I think I detect your voice changing a little, it sounds little more mature/adult like, stronger. It’s all good. 🙌🏽👆🏽😎
hey Sam - thank you. I work at improving my voice like I do any other instrument and so many of the artists that hire me are looking for me to do more & more bgv's. My folks couldn't be more supportive and I realize that.
Pretty cool!!!☺
If you would just slap Brake each time you catch him sleeping, it would top these vlogs off. You said everyone needs a little luck. In your case very little miss crazy talented. Thanks for the smile you always put on my face.
you know... that would be solid entertainment..
Good to see you getting experience on stage. Someday, the headline will be yours. Stay safe.
Don't worry Mia, one day you'll be the one "sneaking" someone on stage at the Opry.
As I may have mentioned I'm originally from Nebraska so it was nice to see video of it again. It's always nice to see Frisco.
So who all went to Nebraska with you? It looked like your mom and brother, but who was the other girl?
Also congrats on turning 17.
And now some unsolicited advice. If you have to play a fair in Nebraska while early in your music career, ride the rides while you're there. After all you're only 17 once enjoy it.
Live your life with fond memories and no regrets.
Good call on the rides, I'm with ya. The Nebraska show was a Callista Clark gig that I was hired to play bass on. The sleepy guy is her guitar player, Brake and I go out of my way to document his ability to sleep virtually anywhere :)
@@miamorrismusic I see. Thought "sleepy guy" a.k.a. Brake (or is it supposed to be Blake?) was your brother. What is your favorite ride at the fair?
Sneak over to Spotify and add Mia's music to your playlists!!
Show some love to "we were never friends" but also...
"only when it rains" is getting close to 200K so if you want to help me get thar song to that milestone for Mia, please stream that one too :D Thanks Mia fans!!!
Hey Mia. Thanks for another great vlog. Look at you rippin it up all over the place, Onstage killin it. Carnival ride knowledge to boot. We wont mention the tax guru... So much talent!!
Honestly, for sure a lengend in the making, and you are kind enough to share this all with us. Thank you.
It is so great that you have people like Kalie and Todd helping you get the breaks you so well deserve and have for sure earned. Without them the road may be a little longer, with some other twists and turns, but I am sure the destinaions would still be reached.
So props to all those who see your skills, and recognize all you are capable of. I truly believe even the sky is no limit for you, so take a breath and get astro..... you can, and if you want it, you will. I know its not that simple. You know it more than I ever will. Fans may come and go, so keep working for your dreams. In your case, I am sure they will happen.
Don't give up your day job -(as if, right!), and don't give up on your own music too!!
Have a great weekend Mia, Thanks for making ours brighter.
I really appreciate all of this Mark and you're tuned in to mention my music as well. There is always a push and pull when I take any significant time to work my day job for other artists career but as long as I can make it all work together, I think there is some real benefit for not just me, but others as well. I'm going to try to do both for as long as i can.
@@miamorrismusic Thank you Mia. I do agree that your day job matters and is important too, especially at this stage of your career. You get my support what ever directions you head. I will always be a vocal supporter of your own music, but that does not mean I don't appreciate the parts you play with others. My view will always be do what is right for you. I may selfishly want more of your original music, but your success sure outways that 100% That success is what you see as success, not what others may think. I hope you get to make a very comfortable living from music, doing all that you choose to do, for as long as you so choose. Regardless of the directions the music industry takes, I truly believe if anyone can be successful in music, it's you! I feel so fortunate I have the opportunity to enjoy the the results of all your efforts. I won't ever take that for granted.
Thank you Mia.
That's awesome Mia you are so talented an your getting the exposure you need keep going girl your on your way 😎👍👍🎤🎸🥁🌹🌹🌹🌹
Wonderfull
You deserve all your success,Mia!
Glad you are on the big stage and having fun. Very cool stuff.
(a) 2:22, "okaayy"..so funny! (b) gots to get me some red sneakers to do accounting with (c) i still love it when you perform f u 2 at song suffragettes..the sheer "wait..what?!" audience reaction is classic!
a highlight for me as well.. I'll sneak it in again sometime.
@@miamorrismusic :) :-*
Good morning Mia Hi!! Hello! I hope you’re doing well! Congrats on 51k subscribers! Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend ❤️
thanks Zack
Your the best Mia!! I always love your vlogs. The only thing you could do to improve them is make them lots longer. 😎👍😇. Take care girl!!
"Well, we're movin' on up!" (The Jeffersons Theme song, lol). But it's true. Is that why y'all moved to Nashville, so you could be on the Opry one day? If that was at least on your bucket list then, CHECK! So happy for you, Mia. We've watched you grow up on here too, and it has beed wonderful to watch. May ALL your dreams come true!!! Peace ✌☮, Love💖💖, and Rock-n-Roll 🤘🤘 Baby!!😎😎
It found it's way on the list shortly after moving here for sure - Thank you Bryan.
Thank you for sharing all this...so incredible! It's fun to watch your journey 🤙
thanks and thank you for taking the time to watch :)
13nth lol and I'm working I will watch later
Hi Mia, this is big! You are so at home on the stage, a hard working musician with huge talent! 🙂
Pretty soon you'll be on all the magazines covers and on all the radio stations perhaps not country radio whuchbi probably don't want anyways hahha . You got a bit of joan in you !
:) i love that comparison, thanks!! i'm happy to play for country artists but i generally stay away from writing it.
I was in Nashville over the weekend
Get her to 100K!!!
(*_*( good man!!
Happy Friday Mia❤ amazing vlog as asual 😃🤘🏻 love to see all the backstage footage!!! Keep rocking and stay positive!!!
Btw uour cajón have more battles than the USMC 😁
heheh - she's a boss.. That opry backstage rehearsal was absolutely magical. Probably my favorite moment of the night.
Just wanted to drop a line to you. I know I can be harsh at times. I am glad you are doing ok.. Keep it tight
My heart pumpin' big proud love for you Mia... At the OPRY! And was that mom driving you? If so hi mom! Hell of a girl you got! Stay safe, stay awesome!
yep - that is Debbie - she's a queen!
1:20 LMAO, as you look back, your dog looks away as if to say "What? I wasn't spying on you, promise!" (or was that a smell?) You looked and sounded really good up there at the Opry and you got a moment on the giant screen! :-)
I prefer these videos/sets...they showcase your talent and skills whereas the rockier + "cooler" videos get play on your youth and sex appeal.
1:21 "Whoever smelt it dealt it" - Also the dog.
It's only a matter of time before you hit the Big Time, I've no doubt.
So why not get three or four other musicians together and form your own full band? You've got the chops, the songwriting, the confidence, and an aura about you that's attracting known players in the biz. I just seems like it's time for,
MIA
and the
LOVE
to take over.
I really want to see bone Pony playing live the three of them work well together and sound great
I do and will do more in the future. here's one of the lineups:

One thing I get to see a lot of playing as a side man is that gigs for the sake of gigs don't move your career forward. I turn down some for that reason.
@@miamorrismusic - Right on. And you do seem to have a strong head on your shoulders. Being a student of a different era, I simply have a difference of opinion is all. 80's and 90's metal, rock and grunge, were all built doing that very thing. Major bands in California, Seattle and New York (think Metallica, Megadeath, Slayer, Pantera, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Motley Crue, Guns'n'Roses, Anthrax etc.) all played as many shows as possible. For whatever size audiences they could find. Thus creating the buzz needed to gain the attentions of the industry people whom launched their respective careers. They just played, and played, and played, and then played some more. I suppose times may have changed. I just hope that passion, attitude and that approach hasn't vanished from the musical journey, is all. Peace!
@@davidnelson5381 i certainly love that list of bands and can picture what a blast that would have been. i think you're on it tho with how different the role of labels, radio and touring has changed. i would absolutely love a following that could support me touring a bunch but that is getting harder and harder to come by. It's still my plan, regardless of the difficulty.
@@miamorrismusic -Mia, I believe you are going to do amazing things. You are wise beyond your years!
the other night I saw Judas Priest and the drummer was flipping his stick throughout one of the songs and it made me wonder what you were up to these days
Please cover the everly brthers / wake up little susie song
was that a Weimaraner??? mine's named rölf. : )
Hai miiiiaaa..
Avril Lavigne was 17 when she started
If you could perform one song with one performer at the Opry, what song and what performer would it be?
hmmm.. The Opry is legendary but the performers I'd like to spend some time on stage with aren't exactly Opry material. Brandi Carlile comes to mind however. I hope to get more chances to make music on that stage and play with the other opry musicians regardless of the artist.
@@miamorrismusic I have a good feeling you'll be seeing alot of that Opry stage 😉
wow what an achievement that must be for you glad you got there now get some elephant ears.
yaaasss :)
Are you developing an accent?
Hay , mia Morris I just wanted to say how long have you now Callista Clark ?. I have big crushed on Callista we just met on TikTok she ask me if I a girlfriend I told No . never had a girlfriend . just in highschool .we been chatting on my phone together . I asked her out on phone text Callista. She said yes . Please don't say anything to her ok .
too much mash-up stuff. We get lost not knowing what's what...
You're there! I had never doubted you'd end up at the Oprey! Looking forward to seeing you go so much further! Peace and Love! ✌💖
:) thank you John - playing at Bonnaroo in a week!!!
