    Today's 65 minute Yin Yoga practice is a highly requested practice - focusing on relief from all the symptoms of PMS and PMT. PMS/PMT affects millions of women everyday with a multitude of symptoms including tension, frustration, anger, back pain, leg pain, cramps, digestive disorders, and restlessness. In this practice we will focus on bringing balance to your hormones to relieve many of these symptoms and soothe and calm the mind.     I love all your classes. I do your meridian target classes every morning either before or after my vinyasas. It really helps to bring my mind into my body especially days I feel like I am just going through the motions, bit this one popped up on the right day and time and helped immensely when I didn't even know I needed it!     Thank you so much for this class, Aprille! I love how you guide our breath, I find it necessary in order for me to relax and many times, if I have no breath guidance, I do feel relaxed but I cannot completely let go. Also, after all these months of practicing yin yoga, I finally managed to go into half reclined hero pose! This modification was what I needed. I have shared this class within the endometriosis group that I am a member of. Thanks again for the lovely opportunity to relax and get some relief. xx

    That was a lovely practice, thank you so much. I'm actually in those few hours just before menstruation starts, but this class worked fine for this as well. Anyhow, could you maybe film a practice specifically for menstruation? There are many of those out there, but I just love your approach, your classes are so well researched/knowledge based, your voice is so soothing and you're just such a calm presence.     Wowza! I actually found myself shouting "ahh!" and "oof!" out loud getting in & out of some of these postures 😂 Thank you for the reminders to honor your body's abilities in the moment... I had an unusually difficult time accessing many of these poses today when I'm normally quite mobile. Guess that means I needed this that much more, AND needed to invite some nurture & surrender in (rather than the self-judgment that we all know is way too easy)!

      Our bodies change so often from day to day, week to week. I think it's okay to make sounds coming out of poses so shout what you want (good to let go of some tension too) - it's YOUR practice, right? The cold weather combined with the energy of the new year is definitely affecting a lot of people's mobility. Take care of yourself, rest, relax and enjoy what you can do which is amazing!     hi April ! firstly thank you sooo much to your this practise.. it's so relaxing for me espacially this pms. And I was inside practise I realized sth in my past life and this relaizing is soft and sincere for me. it's so good because, as before some day this events was so hard, denunciatory and sadness.. however, now, I'm really good with some practise, meditation and mindfulness, turn inside. again thank you for your conduce :) namaste..

    This was a great practice to keep my hormones in balance eventhough I am in the menopause phase . It released tension in my hips and lower back. I feel more calm and relaxed.

    Happy Friday Aprille and Lucy: Even though I am way past PMS and PMT (almost 10 years into the M -menopause phase), I am looking forward to doing this practice. Though menopause has a lot of ups and downs, I think the PMS/PMT I went through in my late 30s and through 40s was much harder that week before. Wish I had you back then, but you are holding my hand through the next chapter in my life. Hugs and ❤️

      Denise, this is not only a good class for PMS and PMT but works to bring balance to your hormones for menopause as well. This practice is focused on balancing the Liver meridian which has either stagnant or excess chi which is related to hormone imbalances for women. Its also a great class for overall tension and anger as an unbalanced Liver meridian can result in excess anger and frustration. Enjoy! 🤗💗 Aprille

    This was just wonderful. I am on day one of my period, and my back is in so much pain. I have been having horrible PMS symtoms for two weeks! Which unfortunately is not unusual for me. I've been unusually angry and having horendous food cravings, so I am hoping with time this will help my next cycle not be as awful. Thank you.

    I LOVE the Tao te Ching! Thank you for sharing it :) did this one, but have only had about 6 cycles in the past 2 years; if I dod it daily- might it help them get regular at all? Or is this just something to chop up to all the traumas my body has gone through this time around?

      It could be the traumas have had an effect on your cycle and it could be hormonal imbalance, food, exercise and/or stress too.       Whenever you start to feel emotional and physical change is a great time to start this practice. I usually feel this around 4-5 days before. Some people have said they practice every month 2-3 times during their cycle and it provides wonderful relief and grounding. Do what feels intuitively best for you though.     Hi aprille;) does this yoga sequence help with PMS induced insomnia ?! Am suffering with this either before or during or at the end of the period and it goes away but takes a toll on my health!! I always believe in yoga and meditation practices so thought I wil ask you if this would sequence would help ?

      This practice is about regulating hormones so for PMS induced insomnia it could help. I might also suggest heart focused practices especially around your cycle to help you sleep better (the heart meridian is related to good sleep). Peace, Aprille

    Both my husband and I loved this, even though neither of us have PMS! Just a few questions:
    I can do 3 part breath easily when supine---but not so much in the twist after flying dragon. It just seems too difficult to breathe deeply/slowly/in three parts when twisted. Am I the only one who has this issue?
    Sphinx is a comfortable pose for me, but doing the tipsy frog leg placement definitely changed the dynamic for me. When I did it with the right leg bent, I felt that a lot more weight was being transferred to my left arm. It wasn't that my leg was uncomfortable, just that I wasn't equally bearing weight on both arms because my pelvis had shifted. Would it be better for me to just do regular sphinx?
    In the supported one legged saddle, I felt that the femur of the bent leg was internally rotating, rather than remaining straight up and neutral. Can't tell if it's a muscular issue that I could eventually change to some extent or a skeletal issue that is just inherent. Any thoughts?
    Loved that you instructed to do the supine shoelace bringing the legs down and closer in. Many instructors say to hold the legs out and away as if it's a motorcycle. For a lot of us: ouch! But I do like to work on my piriformis since I've had some bouts of sciatica. Should I go for a more maximum stretch?
    Sorry about all the questions, but this is actually progress for me to have my mind quiet enough to notice some of these subtle things. Years ago when I started yin I barely could focus on anything but my runaway thoughts" "get me out of it! I can't take this! Why am I doing this?"

      It's a great class for anger and frustration too but even better for good Liver health overall! Glad you both enjoyed it!
      3 part breath does become more challenging in a twist but with time and practice, it will become easier and it will lengthen your torso more so you can twist more deeply from the core. Try pulling up through the crown of your head in the inhales and twisting in the exhales. The breaths might not be as deep but that's okay!
      If the Tipsy Frog didn't hurt, then you are fine with the shift of weight. Just be sure to keep the knee in line with the hip, ankle in line with knee and foot slightly flexed position. If it hurts, then Sphynx would definitely be a better choice OR Half Frog on your belly with this same position except head down and turned to the side.
      Thanks! My hips prohibit a wide position for Shoelace and much of my research shows that because we are all built differently, there is no reason to assume it is okay for all of us to take the feet super wide (unless you feel comfortable doing that). If you are comfortable doing both, I would practice both ways to get the benefits. I find the feet closer together gets more of my piriformis for me personally but again, that may differ for you. Play with your edge and test which one works for you each time. You may need one version today but the other version tomorrow! Keep in mind in Yin we never go for the maximum stretch but for the 2/3 + version. You want to come into the pose until you feel tension or stretch and hang out there and maybe as you go you find you can deepen it or maybe not.
      In Half Saddle your bent leg can be internally rotating if your heel is on the outside of the hip (that's pretty natural for most people). If you take the version where you actually sit on your heels, then the leg would be in a more neutral and straight up position. Which feels better for you? Which gives you the deepest stretch? For me, I have natural internal rotation so this pose is quite comfortable for me. I have clients where internal rotation is VERY painful so they opt to sit on their heels.
      I hope that answers our questions and I am happy you asked them! I enjoy people engaging with the practice and really checking in and sensing their experience. I love that you are exploring all of your Yin pose experiences!
