If Fatal Attracttion was made today, the original ending would be used and it would be emotionally so much more powerful

I actually disagree. Even though the original ending would be more "true" to the character, the ultimate ending we have today just blows the audience away. It gives the audience the opportunity to see this monster suffer until her last breath, while in the alternative ending she would "win". The family had gone through all this mania and terror, only to be punished again... for what? We needed her to lose and lose big.

The original ending would have worked in 1973 - about the only beat, was downbeat.
I understand why late 80's audiences would not tolerate a lack of retributive, jump-scare, closure on the demon - but, it is a shame: the original ending would have put this movie on an even higher level, again.

@@laurencewhite4809 Alex is NOT a monster. Alex is a human being with a beautiful loving soul that got injured and scarred probably sometime in her childhood by her father through an incestuous relationship...
maybe her father sexually abused her as a child. At least that's what Glenn Close hinted at in a recent interview about 5 years ago.

The alternate ending he described is available on RUclips. Just search it. I think it’s superior to the theatrical ending.

It's still a movie that we should comprehend. Just think of any 1 nighter, hookup, whatever, could put you in this same circumstance. I've said for long, long, time, if you're not ready to spend at least 18yrs with that person, don't do the deed.

*2day OG ending waay better, realistic, less Hollywood late night Lifetime thriller. BUT this movie & the ending (in '87'/'88) game changer! & endless wannabes poured out for yrs! It's just *artistically & esp post Me2 & non basics FULLY get what BPD is! That's exactly what she had (severe). Most if not majority of time they end up most harmful to themselves & don't end up like Freddy Krugar or Jason-esque 'villian'. Ending ALL Hollywood but, yes at the TIME (1980s GP) wouldn't 'get' it. They wanted blood & a 'thriller' horror movie vs ART. :/. OG ending= *Archer likely top contender for Supporting Actress. Close (home run *entire movie).

Did he also cheat on his real life 1st wife through out there marriage?? He ended up with like throat cancer from the affairs or had to go rehab for sex addiction?? They eventually divoreced. Now he happily married to Catherine Zeta Jones. The moive close to his real life. But yeh lesson learned for most men not cheat on ya wife with unstable mistrress and get her pregnant and try to toss her away.

The movie is more compelling when it doesn't try to paint Alex as a two-dimensional villain. The original ending forces the audience to think more on her character and what brought her to that decision. I hated the theatre ending. It was a complex movie with interesting story arcs and then the ending was just a big glossy red bow of meh. Lifetime movies still run with this formula too - 'single women are evil and always trying to steal your man/family and deserve to get punished', while the men are hapless cheaters that are occasionally seduced by bad women, but they regret it eventually, so all is forgiven. Sorry, Alex was mentally ill, but she was one of the most memorable and sympathetic "villains" I've ever watched on screen.
