Multiple Sclerosis is an auto-immune disorder. This occurs when our immune system works against our own body - when it damages the nerves' thin layer of coating called myelin. When this occurs, the connection between our body and nerves gets damaged.
The symptoms include:
Tingling / numbness in the hands and legs, a feeling of being pricked by needles, memory loss, mood swings, lack of coordination, lack of urine control, etc.
This is a self destructive condition, and the diagnosis can be done by MRI, testing the fluid of the spine, Nerve Conduction Study. This is a very slow progressive disease, it lasts a long time from the moment it starts. One should detect it at the beginning and treat it accordingly. The probability of curing this condition is low to none, so we should try to control it.
Medications : Steroids, disease modified drugs, medicine according to the symptoms, rarely even the patient can be epileptic - one should take the medicine to control it.
MS will never lead to death, but as it progresses slowly throughout one's life, it can affect one's lifestyle. One shouldn't be afraid by knowing this condition, instead has to find ways to control it.
