I realized I left out the 2013 Celtics as another team that forced a game 6, my B. (Edit: Congrats to the Warriors on NOT blowing a 3-0 lead. It felt like it was going seven for a minute, but they played a great Game 5.) Thanks for watching! -Marc
MDJ you also left the 2009 or 2010 (can't remember the year) Magic, they were down 3-0 to the Celtics (who went on to lose to the Lakers in the finals) and forced a game 7 but lost by 8 points
Came back here after the Celtics became the 4th team to force a Game 7 after being down 3-0. Anyone else present here? This one's for you, MDJ. Please come back. We missed you.
Imagine if this happens in the finals, that might cause the biggest offseason team meltdown in NBA history depending on the circumstances and narrative surrounding said franchise.
It’s going to happen eventually and I hope when it does it doesn’t involved a injured player would love to see it with both teams at full strengths! And I could imagine it happen to a 3 point heavy shooting team. Live or die!
I think a team will come back one day from being down 0-3. If teams are even & one team won 3 close games, the other team could be capable of winning 4 straight close games. Also, injuries could factor into this.
Great Video . And honestly when your down 3 games , it take a lot for every player to comeback with a miracle win. Offense has to be a 100% Defense can’t let up . There really can’t be any flaws in order to win .
I was a 12-year-old die hard Mavs fan at the time. That whole series from Game 4 on, I was just like “you’ve gotta be fkn kidding me” lol, especially after all the crap the media would talk about how Dirk and the Mavs were soft
@@marvinjones689 I don’t recall being too terribly nervous because I knew we were better haha, and we definitely made it closer than it needed to be, but the main emotion I remember feeling was just relief when we won

Have to say, disagree with the math behind this. The assumption that the chance of one team winning over the other stays static + and the use of unconditional probability is what kills it for me, because the games aren't played in vacuum. Sometimes Team A has an off game or Team B has a historic performance to force Game 5, e.g. cavs/warriors 3, but I feel just as often something happens to change the odds -- a star player getting injured, something in the locker room, etc. I think the challenge is sustaining whatever advantage Team B picked up, because there's a regression to the norm in games 5-7 that makes it harder for Team B to win again.
havent read many comments and love the channel from beginning to the present. with that being said i hope youve done some more research on mahmoud abdul-rauf since this video. he definitely had hall of fame potential imo. great video though i love when you dive into the numbers
@Fireboltr2 if Embiid re-aggravates his thumb tomorrow, Raps could complete the first reverse sweep on Saturday since there won’t be much rest time between games 6 & 7
San miguel beermen did come back from a 0-3 deficit in the finals of a league in the philippines last 2016.. thats the first time ive seen a team comeback from 0-3 in any 7game series. Just sayin..
Yeah the comeback was not recognized outside asia or the Philippines but it's still counted in basketball history as the first time a team cameback down 0-3 to win a playoff series
Dude, you are amazing! So entertaining! Here is an idea for an episode : how does it happen that Knicks and similar teams suck for so long, even though they have so much talent on their roster, that would make any other team a top competitor. Melo, Porzingis...
Mahamud Abdul ruaf never made an all star team because people hated him. He was an all star caliber player, but he was the Colin kaeperneick of the nba, he was standing up and knowing what he was doing and chose to do the right thing. Not Long after, no team wanted to sign him or even touch him and he ended up playing overseas.
I think the only way a team will ever come back from 3-0 is if the winning team's star player became injured or the losing team had an injured star who'd return for game 4.
You can also look at it this way. If both teams are evenly matched and have a 50% chance to win any game. The chance that a particular team gets a 3-0 lead is 1/8. And the chance the other team comes back with 4 wins is 1/16. The chance of both happening is 1/8*1/16= 1/128. and since either team can be the choker or the comeback team, there are two ways for this to happen so 1/128*2=1/64. If two teams are evenly matched, mathematically, there is a 1/64 chance one team will go down 0-3 and make the comeback. Of course, in real life going down 0-3 is a morale killer, so the real chance for a comeback is a lot lower than 1/64.
I'd say there's more of a 1 in 100 chance than 1 in 625. There's a 20% chance of them winning game 4 but now because they've won game four they've got some momentum and the winning probability goes up to 25% because they've won 1 in 4 games, the next is 40% and then 50% which when you multiply it all together 0.2×0.25×0.4×0.5 gets you 1%
No matter who wins tomorrow it will be historic, Miami would be the second 8th seed to make the finals and Boston would be the first team to come back down 0-3
its hard because in reality they are the better team resulting to jumpstart 3-0 then the mental fatigue of playing behind is greater then the MATH(mind blown to bits)
