I saw them back then, really weird it wasn't sold out then. I was really lucky that they played this as well! They haven't played Black Gold much since.
I saw them tour this album in Chicago at Lincoln Hall. They played many songs from antidotes. I've seen them many times since then and I get annoyed by the set lists of late. HF and WWD are cool but I don't like the "hits" on those records. I will admit that they've gotten much better at playing live. Check out the 2008 performances for context.
Yes, that break down is so godly, gives me chills. These are one of those songs that you might skip when you first get their CD, but will become your favorite when you listen to the entire thing.
its so amazing when you compare this performance to their 2017 summer festival performances of this song. you can just see how much they've grown on the stage and how they enhanced this song sonically live. foals forever!
Incredible. They really do have a way of creating a whole different energy to their songs live, in a way that the studio versions really doesn't do them justice. I'd happily pay for a live album - the extended riffs in the likes of Inhaler live are just outstanding. Saw them in Cork in July.
Emily Walker I’ve seen them 3 times here in chile since 2013, and just once they played black gold when i saw them this year on apr 1st, i couldn’t believe it i couldn’t fit my happiness it was just so epic.
@Flowery27 This song was one of the reasons I come to love them. I think its one of their most diverse pieces of music along with 2 Trees and What Remains.
that's jimmy's guitar, I make the intro/verse bass out as: E7-D9/E5-A7/E3-E3 there are variations as well (and a different bass line in the chorus/breakdown), such a good song!
Truely this song is an hommage to coffee - who doesn't love it? ;) Jokes aside, this is really a great version of the song, the best live one I've heard yet. I really wished this would be available to download somewhere.
@slappkuken this kind of music can't be too rehearsed and prepared for it's like "in this moment" kind of music which makes it so special even though it doesn't seem perfect these guys put feeling into it unlike many new singers do these days. Foals forever ^_^
glad there is still people out there that still enjoys this "foals", not the hard rock commercial stuff they are doing now, which is not bad, I'm just not into it
@@koanfilms_ I liked his last two albums, the first part (for me) one of his best albums. But I agree with you, these songs and if the vibes of TLF are the best of them. I would have liked to listen to this song live or whats remains (my favorite of them)
My favourite song off of the album, followed by 2 trees/spanish sahara. But UH! I love the math rock they and radiohead use. The build up is also beautiful too, if I were coming up on something, this would be perfect to listen to :)
@inspiringlentil Yeah it's such a shame! I've seen pretty much every song from Total Life Forever live except this which is one of my favourites (especially this version!) and possibly This Orient unless they played it at O2 Academy Oxford. I think they did but my friend doesn't so if anyone knows... haha
@skip2mylou05 Jack Bevan is probably the best drummer in the world. Such a creative genius would get bored playing the same beat night after night which is why he improvises around the beats on a regular basis.
Tenemos buenos gustos HAHA escucha late night. Out of the woods balloons Olympic airways es buenísima y todas las de foals
@skip2mylou05 Jack Bevan is intuitive and has a good groove but he is by no means the best in the world. But I don't think the keys player is playing the cowbell because jack can't at the same time as playing the rest of the drums, I simply think the keys player had not much else to do in that part of the song so no use just standing around playing two chords over and over - why not play the cowbell as well. And travis barker? chad smith? they are competent. Nothing more can be said about them.
i would kill just to go back in time to a total life forever era foals concert
Zóra Vass Or at least holy fire era concert, I mean because of Prelude
I saw them back then, really weird it wasn't sold out then. I was really lucky that they played this as well! They haven't played Black Gold much since.
Been seeing them live since 2008, those were the best days.

saw them live last week for the very first time at off festival, couldnt relate more!!!
I finally get to listen to this live in Mexico City with Walter in the band again. Spiritual experience! 💙💙💙
No tienes idea de cómo te envidio 😭😭 anhelo escucharlos en vivo, y más está canción
Yes, that break down is so godly, gives me chills. These are one of those songs that you might skip when you first get their CD, but will become your favorite when you listen to the entire thing.
Never skipped this one. One of the best off the album. I could listen from blue blood to Spanish Sahara forever
That’s me now 😅 legendary track!!!!
I would do literally anything to hear this live once holy shit ttt
Mixing their vocals together makes it such a powerful mid--> ending to the song 🤩
5:08 just superb.
All time favorite Foals song
i think Foals is one of these bands wich doesn't need to be a virtuous, they are so original and play so strange and it's the charm of the band :D !!!
its so amazing when you compare this performance to their 2017 summer festival performances of this song. you can just see how much they've grown on the stage and how they enhanced this song sonically live. foals forever!
Top of world. Bottom of the ocean.
the most massive foals song.
Got 'the future is not what it used to be' tattooed on my neck, such a good song. The breakdown here is so good I could listen to it over and over!
Hahaha, tattoos are cringe and gay.

They actually did the chant at the bridge. So good.
Holy shit Bevan
my favourite song by them and it's basically never played live D: so thanks for the upload
This and the title track are my two favourite off the album.
Scott Lyman At least you get to see TLF live!
Emily W it's my favorite too, y really want to see them and hear this song in chile :(
I know I’m late but I think they added this song recently to their set list this year
Emily Walker I’ve seen them 3 times here in chile since 2013, and just once they played black gold when i saw them this year on apr 1st, i couldn’t believe it i couldn’t fit my happiness it was just so epic.
This song was so beautifully put together
2019 y esta aun es y sera de las mejores rolas de FOALS
after glow has a sick bassline too
@Flowery27 This song was one of the reasons I come to love them. I think its one of their most diverse pieces of music along with 2 Trees and What Remains.
I hung out with Yannis at a bar in my city, hes really nice! I told him I love this song
Holy shit....this is just one of those performances where to can decide whether or not you like it, but no-one can deny it's incredible.
that's jimmy's guitar, I make the intro/verse bass out as:
E7-D9/E5-A7/E3-E3
there are variations as well (and a different bass line in the chorus/breakdown), such a good song!
What is E3?
oh god i'm floating
holy crap this is freaking amazing!!!!
Black Gold is such an uderrated song, it's just beautiful. 3:38 onwards gets me every time.
All songs of Foals are brillant but this one is really amazing !!
Stunning. Watched it 204.285 times.
3:51 😭😭😭😭
Best album
I think its a better "epic" song than spanish sahara. Much better actually
Truely this song is an hommage to coffee - who doesn't love it? ;)

I recently got a Foals tattoo - it's videos like this that remind me why I got it.
Absolutely perfect! The best song from this album! Mint band!
2019?
2019... L'année où Foals à sorti un album raté 🤮
@@timika9814 So disappointing.

I will try and be more Pacific specifically when I need to

@TheChromeo123 Top of the world bottom of the ocean :)
Yannis sounds a lot like Robert Smith in this sesh
B I think :P
What key is this song in?

The first time Yannis sings like he should.
