This is a BONUS VIDEO; not one of my regular vlogs. It is a real-time recording of a narrowboat journey on the Caldon canal from the water point near the Black Lion Inn to the western portal of Froghall tunnel.
It is deliberately natural sound only, no music or commentary. For commentary, see my vlog videos. For music, turn a radio on.
Another of the usual vlogs will be along shortly, in the fullness of time, when I get around to it.

An oasis of calm in a tumultuous world. Your videos make an enormous difference in the quality of my life, and I doubt that I'm alone in this.
Good! :-)
You are not wrong, I’m with you. As an American in Indiana and closing in fast to 60, I’m amazed to be able to watch a slice of the English countryside slide by. Said countryside puts me in awe!
I love to watch these! Especially when i have nothing else to do, and don't see that as a bad thing. Being able to watch 50 minutes of narrowboating whithout the feeling you gotta do something else is amazing and calming.
Yup no music just the sound of canal life at its best, cheers again dave for another peaceful video to watch.
I love these, been using the last one as a screen saver so I can change it now for a while. Thanks.
This video is very calming and relaxing! Thank You.
Thank you! Thank you for not putting music on!
Completely agree with you Loadinglevelone and best wishes.
Hats off to your bandwidth commitment to load the full trip. I am amazed at your skill navigating such a narrow channel with your home. Can you imagine having a similar recording of a boat passing through these waterways from when they were in commercial use back in the (?1800's?) Folks a hundred years from now will have this not a vlog to refer to for their history. Bravo!
always love watching these. It's like I'm sitting in the bow as you are going along. Keep them coming please. Thanks.
Talk about a relaxing pace of life... I love the serenity of this area.
Super! I now can cruise the Caldon virtually whenever I feel like it. Thanks!
David...I so look forward to these NOT-A-VLOGS. They are soothing and remind me how to slow down and enjoy life. Thank you!
We want more. We want more. A fantastic idea. David you are simply the best. Best wishes and thanks.
Wonderful, simply wonderful♥ Fairytale material.
Hope you enjoyed cruising that beautiful canal as much as we the viewers of your Not-a-Vlog! do!
Very nice. Can't figure out why there are 23 dislikes. Nothing to dislike here at all.
These ‘slow videos’ are always most interesting, enjoyable and relaxing to watch. If your feeling stressed then just put on one of CruisingTheCut’s other slow videos and ‘chill out’.
Good call on the music (not having any). Very relaxing to watch!
Thank you David for sharing your travel’s by canal
I'm settling in to watch this now. This is going to be good for my soul, thank you David.
Thanks David... thats another few Gig you have freed up on your drive.
I love these, as have them running on 2nd monitor whilst working .... better than the real thing, because you can always rewind and watch a nice bit again. Caldon is lovely but not many places to moor.
This was the perfect cure for a snowy day. Thanks!
Saving this to watch right before bedtime. It appears so relaxing.
Not-A-Vlog . . . a perfect way to spend time alone With other people! Bravo!
Beautiful relaxing watch, thank you x
More of these please, great inspiration for painting
Watching this , your latest on TV. What a lovely stretch of water, made all the more pleasant by the lack of traffic. I imagine that after this, that situation may well change. I really do enjoy your notavlogs .
Keep up the great work, and keep them coming. ATB
Stress melts away, and the world opens up. How wonderful for us all to enjoy the wonders of your mini-cruises! We could never all fit in your boat, yet here we all are! Technology more wonderful than The Jetsons! We could never all fit, yet we’re all in! Thank You Again!
When I watch these videos, I'm just amazed at how much effort must have gone in to building these canals. The men who did this work couldn't possibly have imagined that years later people would be watching the result of their labours like this.
What a beautiful journey. Loved it, reminds me of my childhood with a canal boat. It's very peaceful.
Thanks again, CC. It's delightful to hear the Diesel engine churning away in the background, the gentle slapping of the water against the bow and the Elysian scenery!
Just right. Music would be vandalism.
My favorite thing in the evenings is to get a soothing hot drink and sit in a darkened room watching the canal go by. Thanks!
The reflections are incredible!👍✌️😊🙏🏼
A haven for wildlife and for those who have little fear about being on their own. Thank you.
As always very enjoyable and a welcome site. As much as I enjoy your VLOGs I find myself getting lost in the non-vlogs is a most relaxing way.
Anytime you want to not vlog, please upload an hour of travel along the canal. Loved just riding along listening to the birds, boat and water. Thank you
David, a great "not a vlog". Really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work.
Perfect! Just need an 8 hour loop now 😂
Keep these up. So much to be said about these. I can fall asleep watching and listening. It’s nice to wake up to, as well. Thank you!
This episode sponsored by the newest BEATS wireless earbuds. 😉😂😁
Hello again 👋, this was so cool to watch. You actually look like you're traveling faster than you do in the vlogs. I'm a full-time RVer and I live traveling on the road in my 36 foot class A Motorhome, but honestly, I wish that we had some type of canal system here so that I could try out the narrowboat experience. Anyway, thanks for sharing, keep the videos coming and safe travels 🙏.
So relaxing ....
Awesome video David, thanks.
Ahhhhhh....feeling much relaxed after having watched your video.
Thanks for sharing.... love the channel.
David, thank you again. Lovely and peaceful, stay well and I hope you’re able to begin moving around the canals again soon. Stay well!
There's a reason I love the Caldon so much. BTW, the concrete wall/fenced section at the end is the site of huge former copper works active until the 70s or so. Now complete removed.
Well, now I understand - copper is rather valuable.
This is where the first transatlantic telephone cable was made, so historically significant.
Just in time to sooth my frayed nerves, and quiet my soul. Blessings.
This might be the most beautiful stretch of canal any where in the world.
What a glorious bit of canal/countryside. Thanks for sharing. I find these not-a-vlog's very soothing and relaxing.
I got a chance ride on a canal boat, one of the things I’ve always dreamed of doing thanks to this video, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I couldn’t do it for real, but this was as close as I think one can get without being there. Really great.
What a wonderful journey ... my kind of place
Stunning. I am sure the house on the left at around 12.00 is waiting for me.
I really enjoyed this "not a vlog", saw it come up a few days ago, but wanted to wait till I had the time to fully enjoy it, which I did.
Thank you.
Edited to add......really liked the sound of the little stream...I think you may have moved over a tad to record that....thank you.
Great.
I really loved the vlog version and I am thrilled that you did this version. Thank you ever so much! Sitting on the bow of your narrowboat as it threads its way through the history of the Industrial Revolution is fascinating. I am recovering from some major surgery and I find watching this particular video very healing. I fantasize what it must be like to helm the boat through the twists and narrows of the canal. The leisurely pace helps!
Mmmm, coffee, gingersnaps and lovely scenery on the monitor :-)
14:28 A lock volunteer?
No, just a passing walker having a sit down.
Coming from America I had no idea these existed. Ever since learning about it I've been enchanted by the channels and narrowboating. I was really pleased to find your video of the whole experience. The way the hemi-circle bridge arches make that circle in the reflection on the water is so stunning.
I still say we need a character we need a hunchback of Notre Dame character carrying a lantern to be your lock keeper/ lockie. With a very very very deep British accent that we all can't understand. All this quiet time is making me think too much. Really great show David this is just superb
Steering alone David means you don't always get to appreciate the lovely countryside in detail.
DAVID SEDLICKAS I disagree, you see more while steering than as a passenger. You're constantly looking around and speed is low enough to take everything in. Passengers, in my experience tend to get distracted by conversations, trips to the loo, doing the washing up etc so see considerably less.
Very good steering in some tight spots. Lovely and relaxing to watch. Ten out of ten and three house points.
Very beautiful. Having never been to the UK, it is nice to have videos of the country. It's almost like being there, without the jetlag. Thanks for posting
Simply bliss. Thank you David.
These Not A Vlog videos compliment your traditional ones so well. Please don’t stop. I imagine they’re a bit easier from an editing point of view as well...
Yes but not as much as you'd think. I still go through and check things like the sound (toning down any horn toots, smoothing out any loud bits etc). Plus the odd trim like the locks. But yes, easier to a fair degree.
I love your not a vlog vids almost as much as your regular vids, very chilled and relaxing, just what I need after a very stressful week, cheers David,🍺
Just had an operation on my leg and I am recovering at home. Lovely way to rest is to watch your and other narrowboaters vids! Thanks for making these.
Hope your recovery is going well
Really enjoyable and relaxing. Love it!!
Meditating the Cut....
This was great. Best nights sleep I have had in months and no it does not need music, sometimes it best to just listen to what is going around you. Please do this again!
Many more, on my “Slow TV” playlist! ;-)
@@CruisingTheCut Excellent, will check them out, summer is coming , I will need some cool water vids to watch...:)
Peaceful bliss.....Thank you David
Of all the canals you have shown us so far this one felt the most abandoned and "right in the middle of nowhere" to me, even a little on the edge of spooky. Still interesting though.
Looks like CRT needs to do a lot of bank trimming on this canal👍✌️😊🙏🏼
Having dinner while cruising the cut. Perfect!
Lovely not-a-vlog! Thanks for no music too, it spoils many a good viedo
True. If a person wants music, they can add their own selection.
Hi I'm in Denver Colorado. I love your Video's. They are so peaceful and very interesting. I spent 3 years in Mons Belgium and loved sitting on the bank fishing and watching the boats go by. Keep up your vlog.John Libby
A nice relaxing trip and I didn’t need to leave the sofa! Thanks for sharing
The lack of stress keeps stressing me...;-) Great Stuff!!!
Perfect cure for my insomnia. Thank you for my sleep.
This is by far my favourite of all your not-a-vlogs. Had it run twice already while I was working, all the way through.
Good show old bean! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Very relaxing
86k+ subs. jolly good job Dave !
Loved this, just the tonic when you’re tucked up in bed feeling under the weather. So soothing to listen to while watching you glide through all those tight twists and turns. A huge thank you!
Although short, this may be my fav (or one of), out of your Not-a-vlog cruises. So peaceful and scenic
A very pleasant wilderness cruse. The UK sure does have some old stuff I would love to explorel
Narrow, undermaintained (banks not trimmed; seemingly due to difficult topography on one bank); seemingly not much traversed. A 'gem' for a cruiser who loves nature and solitude.
Had to give up cruising due to heath problems but the last time we went up the Caldon we want to eat at the pub at the wharf. Landlady wouldn’t serve us 'till we had rounded up the horses in the field next door. A canal way of life.
Hahahaha, excellent
What a impudence. Slave driving. It's bad enough having to get out and attend to the locks. I'd go for singing for my supper. Maybe you tried that one with the western cowboy solution as a result . Ho-hum. Life's tuff.
Your video reminds me of the very first time we navigated the canals in France: I was amazed by the views, and even more amazed by the fact that so few people know that boating takes you along the most beautiful landscapes in the world. It's like traveling through lush back yards and gorgeous parks, without even leaving your home. Great movie, thanks a lot!
Thank you Davit I love this relaxing, floating stream. My englis is not good. But you have love from Iceland and my.
So much overgrowth in this one I almost felt at times as if we were drifting down a river in the Amazon jungle.
I absolutely love these ambiance vlogs. I love to put these on full screen on my computer and just listen to the hum of the engine and float lazily down the cut until I fall asleep. These are perfect, please keep making them😊
Pretty stretch of canal, that. And that heritage railway that runs alongside got me intrigued.
But boy does it look narrow(!). Good thing there didn't seem to be a lot of traffic when you were there. It must be fantastically stressfull up there in the middle of summer...
David. Like a fine wine you do not get older, you get better.
Haha thank you. I feel older!!
I can almost say, been there done that! Wish it was true. Thanks for sharing!👍✌️😊🙏🏼
Very nice.
I almost fell asleep on the bow again! I hate when that happens! Oh well, probably the last one for the season, meaning I'll have to stop pretending & just know that I'm really sitting in NC, usa watching this. Peace!
Thank you for sharing this journey.
Peaceful and relaxing - nice - thank you ! - viewing from Riga Latvia, EU
I became so mesmerized by the wilderness that when we came upon some civilization at the 49:00 minute mark I noticed my glass of Port was still nearly full. Talk about "Narrow, Overgrown, Serpentine canals". I would certainly not want to a)breakdown nor b) moor overnight along that stretch. Glad you gave the Canal name, with both starting & ending pints...had to check it oput on Google Maps, and still had uneasy feelings. Excellent vlog 👍👍👍👍👍 X 5
Without the noise or talking or music ... a scene from 'apocalypse now' when they were heading up a Vietnamese river !!!!!!! wow how the mind wanders when relaxed ...cheers from dave..
How Enjoyable, thanks.
Just beautiful!
I hope you do a snowy canal trip this winter as a not-a-vlog. I know it is fall now; in fact, I am making Pumpkin soup as I watch this.
Superb
marvellous stuff
Now that was a real treat! Sipped my breakfast coffee and cruised along a lush green overgrown canal. I have done absolutely nothing that I had planned to do this morning... and I don’t even care 😂
