Halestorm is going to tour with The Pretty Reckless and *The Warning* will join them in July and August because Lzzy Hale saw them perform and loves them! You should give them a listen. They are rooted in classic rock and add in elements of grunge, punk, new wave, and other genres as needed per song. David Bendeth (who should need no introduction) produced their 3rd album, and you should try The Warning's 'Evolve', 'Disciple', or 'Animosity' to start. Justin!!! Love you mate! Very much appreciate the insiders approach to these videos. Happy to see you dont take yourself too seriously. Keep the education coming!!!
I never imagined back in 2003 when I bought Permission to Land, that Justin would become my guitar teacher. I thank you and my Les Paul thanks you. 👍🙏🎸
Really great video, Justin. Like how you pulled out Eagles and Kansas. Halestorm have established themselves as a solid rock band. Speaking of Atlantic Records, the 20th Anniversary of Permission to Land is coming up. Hopefully they do a proper re-release and put a few quid in Justin's jeans.
I’ve seen Halestorm a few times now and they do not disappoint. Lzzy’s voice is just incredible. I think you would be thoroughly impressed if you were to attend a show.
My guess is she is doing the "pretty" singing trick for the video. I just worked on tour visuals for an artist and she was singing live as we filmed and she apologized if it sounded bad since she had to keep her face soft for the camera.
On top of all the gigs they do, some of them are 'An evening with Halestorm', they did a UK tour earlier this year in this format. They don't have a support, they come out and do an acoustic set, low key numbers and covers. Then, after a brief intermission, come back on and raise the roof! Absolutely astounding gig, wonderful experience.
Lzzy Hale has an amazing voice for their flavor of rock. Love that there are still young American hard rock/heavy metal groups committed to virtuosity. Pro tools, cool ... mastering your instrument, super cool!
Adding in that low 5th is a killer trick. Sylosis, an English metal band featuring the great Josh Middleton of Architects, use it a lot on their earlier albums where they made some of the heaviest standard tuned music in existence. Empyreal is the big track that really show this off on the opening riff. If anyone cares 😂 Great video as always Mr Hawkins, sir!
I would say I find it too cheesy. But I don’t think that’s what I don’t like about it. It’s just the lyrics are a bit mah. It stopped raining in my head today. What does that even mean 😂😂😂. I stopped talking to my neighbour today. Because he’s a prick and I can’t stand him okay. True story.

I think you'll enjoy this better Justin, a rarely heard now No. 1 in the UK charts from 1972 I believe? Has to be the first 'Glam Rock' hit well before that genre was a thing! 'Mouldy Old Dough' by Lieutenant Pigeon, I believe it was recorded in their front room at home and it was the first band to feature a mother and son in it's line up! Interesting lyrical masterpiece, very deep and meaningful, maybe you could cast your very valued opinion on it? The harmonies and chord progression are truly ground breaking and his singing voice is something the angels from heaven couldn't better! I often play it in my car and every passenger that hears it always comments on it and asks who it is?👍
You're on a roll and it's a pleasure to watch you analyze these things! As a suggestion I'd like to ask you do Iron Maiden (or Bruce Dickinson) as they returned to stages two days ago after corona started. Whether you do or you don't have a great day and stay healthy!
