Great style!! I just ordered the jazz rakes and I can't wait to use them like this. I love how you experiment with different drum and percussion setups. It's inspiring
I play classical Guitar, Jazz Hollowbody Guitar and Strat blues & Jazz Guitar at eating dinner clubs for light easy listening and gradually progressing to popular dance on the last set with acoustic Bass and up right Bass and electric bass trio. Your set up is what we have along with blocks, chimes & cowbell. This is the perfect light nightclub sound with a volume control start. And your dress is in our ambience along with tux pant and White dinner jacket and stage dress Black. We do an all you can eat "New York" style sunday Chicken N wafles or pan cakes Jazz night Sunday nights. My Dad used to carry my brother & me to New York back in the 60's which is where it originated. All the Jazz greats were on location back then. Wes Montgomery, jimmy Smith etc.
Jeff Navarro, Thank you so much for your support. Regarding your question: The Vic Firth Jazz Rakes have always held up very well for my uses. For playing on the djembe and cajon I sometimes wrap a small amount of moleskin at the edge of the plastic to protect the surface I'm playing on. Full disclosure is that I am a proud endorser of Vic Frith products. Thank you again for you interest!
Thanks for answering my question, Tom! I'm gonna go ahead and get the Rakes...great tip about wrapping with moleskin. I'm pretty much a newbie, but I'll be watching your vids for inspiration. Thanks again!
Thank you for your kind words! It isthe LP 12 1/2 inch fitted with a Remo Fiberskin head. That combination works best for my hybrid world/jazz approach. Please visit often!
Tom Teasley Thank you! You are one of my favorite percussionists with amazing creative techniques and unique musical expression, a great inspiration to me!
Amazing!!! I've been loving your brush/djembe videos. Can I ask, you seem to really like the Jazz Rakes, and certainly put them to good use...but I read some negative reviews about poor construction...do you find the build quality to be an issue?
Feast of percussion ❤
