My friend lives in South Korea and he says he loses count on how many North Koreans try or successfully escape from the North lands. And yes it’s true once you escape from the North you are safe and welcomed with open arms in the South. And your free to live your life and even change your name. South Korea allows freedom and better life. And the other thing he told me was every night from 11pm- 5am the lights from the North are turned off leaving them in total darkness.
Many South Korean soldiers near the border are told to bring back any North Koreans who escape. However even if you do escape North Korea can hire assassins to hunt you down.
I went to school with Otto, he was an awesome person who flat out had respect for everyone and everything so there's no way he stole a poster/damaged property. They killed him for no fucking reason. RIP OTTO!!!!!!!!!!!!

They won't or can't though. The soldiers, just like almost everyone else there don't know any different. They are shown propaganda of other countries looking worse and told that they kill each other with guns. From birth they are brainwashed into thinking that NK is the best country and all other countries kill each other, live in tents etc. Local people are not allowed to talk to visitors on tours and ofc they have no access to the internet like we do. Even NK students on exchange programs are chaperoned to ensure they don't mingle with regular people
