I'd be interested to see what Buggy thinks of the fact Shanks was found in a treasure chest. Buggy is obsessed with treasure after all, and Shanks turned out to be his best friend for many years.
So buggy needs to learn that the true treasure is the friends made along the way ? I don’t think he’d like that😂
@@mma93067 yeah that's it.
Wow, this is interesting.

I love that whitebeards opinion on the sake changed when it pertained to someone’s hometown. He probably immediately thought of sphinx
It could be that Shanks is from God Valley and Roger decided to leave Shanks in the West Blue in an area he thought Shanks would be safe until he was a little older. Then Roger went back and picked him up. That would explain why Shanks considers somewhere in the West Blue his home town
maybe he left shanks with rouge we dont know how long she knew roger
Wasn't God Valley said by Sengoku to be in West Blue? Pretty sure that was the case. And while Shanks states he's from the west blue, he never mentions any island or town by name. And if that's because it's God Valley it makes sense why he wouldn't say. Or maybe it's not significant enough to mention where Shanks grew up as far as the story. Certainly, Shanks may consider some random west blue town his 'hometown' as the place he was between God Valley & being a cabin boy on Roger's ship. The birth place and where he grew up could both be in west blue.
Just realized that all pirates may have the same logic as Corazon did when putting Law into that chest, all pirates always take the bounty so the baby/child is always likely to end up on a ship rather than stranded in the middle of no where
11:10 A random town in the West Blue being his hometown doesn't mean he was born there. I'm pretty sure Nami considers Cocoyashi Village her hometown, even though she was definitely not born there. I've thought about it when I saw that Baby Shanks flashback in Film Red, and I'm partial to the first idea you threw, that after finding him as a baby Roger dropped Shanks on an Island in the West, with someone he trusted
yeah, there always seemed to be a special relationship between Roger and Shanks that was totally different from Roger-Buggy dynamic, even when both had the same status of apprentice. Roger entrusting Shanks to a benefactor would explain why Roger said it was nostalgic when he had held up Momo.
Yeah, a common theme in one piece is found family, I think this theory makes more sense
Maybe even used the place as a homebase for a while, and went to visit Ohara during that time.
4:18 If I had a nickel every single time a baby was found in a treasure chest by a pirate crew, I would've 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice!
Thanks, Tekking!
I think that the west blue isn’t actually where Shanks was born but it’s where he stayed after Roger’s execution so he calls it his home
Yes that what was thinking because before roger got the one piece in Odin flashback we saw him drop shanks off at a island and then he tell shanks something and shanks starts to hug and cry in rogers arms. That the one point telling forgot to bring up. So shanks could actually have been born on his valley and then river left him the west blue to grow up.
After/during Roger’s execution was when the red haired pirates were founded
He asked Buggy to join his crew as Roger was being executed, he refused, I assume Shanks went to the east blue, recruited Yasopp, then Beckmann then Lucky Roux
can’t be after Roger died
Shanks was there at logue town so I highly doubt he went there to the east just to go back to the west
@@Days-ru8jh but at what point during his childhood was he at loguetown? since we are going by the one shot origin given to us by oda in one piece red, roger find shanks in a chest as a 1 year old and just like with uta and oden kids we see that the roger pirates and shanks crew have no problem raising kids while they are on the sea pirating. That why it makes sense that shanks spent the rest of his childhood after roger found the one piece and then died in the west blue where we see him hug and cry for roger because I’m guessing roger told him about his sickness and that he was going to die soon as well as disband the crew.
In Film Red one of the Gorosei mentioned that Uta is of a special lineage. Being both redheads, and being put into treasure chests could suggest that they are Tenryuubito. Or at least special enough that even the Gorosei would hesitate to kill them. Being from the West Blue can be easily explained by his parents going on vacation, and he was born there.
I think it was more the reveal that she was Shanks' daughter and they didn't realize she was adopted, so they just assumed she was of whatever family Shanks is in. Sorta the same way how Ivankov thought Ace was Dragon's son also because he was a brother to Luffy but didn't find out it was more of a symbolic brotherhood till after they escaped Impel Down.
I just want to point out that Law was also eventually found in a treasure chest as a child
Very interesting as some theories associate Law with the Moon, and I believe Shanks is JoyBoy and the actual Sun destined to be sent back 800 years ago by Nika (not Luffy though).
Law has a sibling bro
it'll be more productive to point out any character that isn't found in a treasure chest as a child
Gimon was also a baby in a chest but noone found him as a child i guess
He wasn’t actually “found”. He hid in one yes but escaped when they were distracted.
Tekking I think this is the obvious thing you skipped over after shanks left Rogers, Crew, a.k.a. after Roger died, wherever shanks would’ve settled down before he built his crew would’ve technically been his hometown.
Cause he instantly went from being a baby to being on the sea for the majority of his young years. You wouldn’t call the sea your hometown would you? And if you were born in a hospital in a different city like I was, I don’t call key west my hometown even though I was born there.
Given his ability to meet with the Gorosei despite being a pirate, Shanks being a Celestial Dragon makes some sense.
I think you might be giving shanks calling the west blue home WAY too much credit. If RED is to be believed he is the last member of a specific family that the gorosei knew and seemed to give weight to the name of. It makes sense that this family were the rulers of god valley and shanks was hidden in the chest to protect their only heir from dying with them. It would also give some explanation to why shanks can just meet with the gorosei at his whim. For all we know his family used to be part of the gorosei and he's damn near royalty even to the celestial dragons.
Shanks's family is called Figarland, and is probably another of the celestial dragon families, alongside the Donquixotes and the Nefertaris.
@@thechatteringclown I know the name, I was just trying to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen Red yet.
But the only reason I don't think they were just any other noble family is that even other celestial dragons can't just visit the gorosei. And I don't think the emperors can just walk into their chambers without it causing a stir.
@@NoHandsJames hmm, i don't think spoilers are a concern in a video that is specifically meant to be about the character's history. on other videos? sure. this one... not so much.
with that out of the way, do you have any proof for that claim? i don't remember any celestial dragon ever explicitly being forbidden from entering the room. sure, they may need to get a proper audience, but they could easily get access if they really wanted to. even cobra managed to get an audience, even if he was assissanted, either before he could go or shortly after. it's just that most of them only really thinking about themselves and don't really feel the need to talk politics. so shanks really didn't have to be from any specially family within the celestial dragon, just from any of the families making up the group.
i do however agree that him being allowed to visit had nothing to do with him being an emperor.
Or Shanks was just lying to Whitebeard
@@jackroberts2704 I mean that ties directly back to what I said. He has no reason to lie to whitebeard about anything, especially his own backstory, UNLESS he's hiding something big.
It's not like whitebeard wouldn't have some idea about god valley or what went down. As far as we know whitebeard was there and a participant in the events of God valley. It's not like shanks is talking to a random pirate or a marine.
The Viking cup is appropriate when talking about Shanks since shanks' crew not only has a Viking theme but he's allied with elbaf which is the land of Viking themed giants
Shanks hometown doesn’t necessarily mean where he was born, it could be any number of islands that Roger left him at. Luffy was brought to Foosha village by Garp and that was him “hometown”.
Side note, that makes me wonder how regularly pirates will open up treasure chests just to find children inside of the treasure chests, maybe it's a thing their parents do in order to get them off of the island to help keep them safe? But so far two prominent characters have their origins in being coincidentally found within recently looted treasure chests so that makes me wonder how often it happens for less important characters
My thought exactly, maybe Shanks and his parents faced immediate death and they sent their son away in the treasure chest to give him a change to survive. This would mirror famous narratives of a child being rescued in such a way, like Horus or Moses.

I think Roger left Shanks in the West Blue until he was old enough to board his ship as a kid apprentice but he was truly born on God Valley but only a few select people know. Shanks is probably the son of Xebec or a Celestial Dragon. I think Shanks is the son of Xebec.
Your story on how Shanks ends up the treasure chest was great. I hope that is canon in the story. That would be awesome
I feel like we have to mention the "Figarland" family thing in this discussion
Just pointing out Tekking, in relation to the Baby Shanks with the star pyjamas, that's a fan drawing. In the actual volume 4B it's all sketched lines and it's only sketches down to around neck level so you can't even see the shirt he has on
I know that no one wants to even consider this as a possibility, but isn't there a chance that Oda just forgot about the West Blue thing ? It was like 15 years ago.
Hey tekking, I think a way to have shanks be a tenryubito and be from west blue could be that back in the time when the 20 kingdoms came together to from WG, shanks family (prolly figurland) came from the west blue. Shanks may have learned his about his heritage from roger when disbanding the crew or sometime later and after he had formed his crew, went back to the kingdom once ruled by the figurland and could have spent enough time learning about their history and current situation to grow a bit attached and call it his home town.
I’ve always had the idea that Shanks lied about being from the west blue because being a tenryuubito is a Big Deal and something he probably wants to keep under wraps
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the five elders saying we’ll talk to you because of who you are meaning he’s something more than a yonko
A very random thought:
Franky could've made a trio with shanks and buggy as apprentices in roger's crew, had he accepted oden's offer that one time. Now I'll be sitting in the corner and imagine the hilarity of that scenario on my own
Thank you for the video! It was really interesting. I always enjoy watching you!
Love early morning tekking uploads :) starting my day off right
Love the video and keep up the great work tekking
Hey Tekking, for what you were talking about at 10:43 or just slightly before that, it could be that Shanks just got some sake when he was a teenager. I mean it happens all the time irl so it should be happening in the One Piece world.
I meant before Roger took him in if your theory about Roger dropping him off in the West Blue before picking him up later turns out to be true that is.
Hi tekking, i was early this time , was already watching when i seen you uploaded !
Love your vids tekking keep up the good work👍
The real treasure was Shanks we found along the way
I don’t know about anyone else but I love the voices you do for characters
Interesting, I picked up a morning shift today this will definitely help me get started.
Last night I busted my phone and I didn't get to listen to RUclips while I worked and I remembered complaining about how you probably had a new video out to coincide with a new theory that you have about the new chapter and I thought I was going to be. However, late to it, I just got done at the store replacing my phone and finally got logged into anything and this was the first thing that popped up on my feed. So I'm doing marginally better now. I'm glad I didn't straight miss the video
Perfect timing buddy
I think you're missing a bit of context regarding Shanks Tekking.
Shank's surname is Figerland. He was found in the treasure chest after God's Valley where Rocks had attacked the Celestial Dragons.
I think Oda has been setting up the reveal of Shanks being found in a chest ever since it happened to Law. Not to mention Shanks being a celestial dragon by blood is the only way I can see them giving him time to meet the Gorosei same way Doflamingo was able to change the news as he seen fit.
Also Shanks being a celestial dragon also explains the because it's you quote Sengoku made to stop the war at Marineford.
It was never said that shanks surname is Figarland. In film red the five elders speculated that Uta might be related to the Figarland family but they never said anything about shanks.
@@barobaro1 They said she could be related to the Figerland family because Shanks says she's his daughter in the film.
@@adamxero We don't know if that's reason... the five elders might have had some inside info on Uta and who she really is... this is all speculation.
@@barobaro1 I’m pretty sure they specifically state that she might be a Figarland BECAUSE Shanks is claiming her as his daughter. All but confirming that Figarland is Shanks’ surname.
My timeline shanks was born on God valley dropped of in the west because who is going to raise a baby in what is essentially an active war zone picked him up years later when he was old enough to at least defend himself if needed. After Roger's execution, he probably decided to lay low there to gather information and made return visits after making the red force as a starting base until he got established enough to make more permanent decisions
There is another small scene where shanks tells buggy to create a crew just after the execution..
He wasn’t a baby, but Law was also thrown in a pirate chest as a young kid.
Thank you Brian Cox of anime, very good video.
1020 looks almost too good, christ I love a crisp focus nice video as always Tekking
Tekking and his snake voice. EPIC!!
Roger becomes a dad through treasure hunting… the most piratey way to parenthood
Yoooo new video lets goo!!!
You dont necessarily have to kill off Uta in canon. Just say they went to Elegia before going to Luffy's village and she took Shanks' offer to stay behind and learn music. ...Or the tot musica thing could have still happened there.
18:34 Understandable, Have a great day!
What if Shanks is a Celestial Dragon and when he said he was from the west blue, he meant that his original kingdom the one his family used to rule during the void century is in the west blue. And maybe the reason he was crying after talking to Roger was because he learned what his family did to become Celestial Dragons.
"Even as a baby, Shanks was pretty much indestructible" Lord of the Coast "Hold my beer"
4:15 Actually, 2 and a half times, because Law was not a baby when Corazón put him on a treasure chest

Great video. Everyone loves Shanks. And so do I.
Happy birthday 🎉😁
My theory. Shanks is a Celestial Dragon. His "Home town in west blue" refers to the island that his family previously ruled over, similar to how Doffy still knew what kingdom used to be under his family's rule.
I feel you, I've once spent 2h in a 5 min exercise to match some colours. I do see colour though
If shanks was a celestial dragon i can picture it like this
1. His mom gave birth to him at west blue, and then got back to God valley which i can assume was one of celestial dragon residencies and stayed there for a year until the incident happened with the rocks pirates
2. It’ll explain also why his Adv CoC is so Strong
Inland Taipan is the most venomous snake. Also, Shanks might have been born to tenryuubito that had a villa in some West Blue country and had to go to the hospital there.
Likewise the King Cobra is probably the largest venomous snake. Anacondas tend to be the heaviest snake, Reticulated python tends to be the longest.
what a catch on the stars and moons on Shanks' baby clothes!
If we assume that every Rocks pirate has a clone that means we have potentially a clone of Wang Zhi.
Banger early vid!
Tho your reasoning is quite good in itself, I believe it would make more sense if Figarland family similiar to Nefeltari's (further Donquixote's) went to live among commoners. We know for a fact that several Celestial dragons were at God Valley, so it could be a planned event among them, Figarland's were invited. As planned as it was that opened a way for Rocks to attack the island further Baby Shanks went aboard Roger's ship among the ruckus. After Roger's death, Shanks gathered his crew to visit his town (where figarland's went) hence bein from West blue presumably. Being a fallen Celestial much like Doflamingo, maded it easier for him to meet the Gorosei and their respect for him.

As weird as it sounds I'd love to see a compilation of all the Videos where tekking made the joke referring to the title of the video in the beginning like "yeah well that's how it is the end" except they actually end there. He did it so many times I'd say we get at least one full length tekking video's worth of compilation.
What an early upload for tekkiing
I loved film Red. I really love Shanks&Uta!
Happy birthday Matt
Baby shanks toddling through the epic war of God Valley really needs to be Cannon
Baby Shanks ENDED God Valley😀
The town in the west blue could always have been a adopted home town. Or he made it up as part of a cover story.
I feel like Uta's story doesn't mess with canon all the way to the end of Elegia, once she's left there and Shanks sails away, after that is when i feel the her story can no longer be canon
Thank you for the jacket reveal
Im calling it. The Gorosei are selected by Im from across the world because of how powerful they are with Haki. Shanks was one of these chosen children to become a Gorosei member further in the future but he was taken away by Roger by accident. I bet we see just how powerful Jupiter is with Conqueror's Haki in this Egghead Island Arc.
4:15 is like the Doofinshmirtz meme. "If I had a nickle for every time a baby was found in a treasure chest in One Piece I would have two nickles, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice."
You describing shanks trotting around a battlefield reminded me of baby groot in guardians of the galaxy 2 hahaha
A while back you compared imu to king Bradley. This got me thinking what if God valley is where they train the future gods. So rocks found out and wanted to go seize the empty throne. That would make it make sense as to why Roger protected the celestial dragons, if he was protecting kids. Shanks could have been a candidate for Imu sama's position.
With the immortal Imu theory it might make more sense that Shanks was being trained to become a Gorosei.
Pirate Daddies is the spinoff I never knew I wanted
"It's like a pizza delivery... except you die" you know what I'm kinda mad that we don't do Snail facts for S but I'll let it slide for that one
What if Matt also has the Usopp Usopp no mi fruit, where all his tangents become cannon in the story.
My idea is that roger stopped for a few years(2-3) on an island in the west blue and baby shanks could be about 2. That would be the first place he really remembered, hence his hometown
Baby shanks crawling through the god valley carnage would be peak gag piece
The last chapter was lit 🔥🔥
I wonder if Shanks telling people he's from the East Blue might be a cover story? Maybe Shanks tells this to people so no one finds out about him being from God Valley (to hide his origin as a Celestial Dragon and survivor of the incident). God Valley has been erased from history and probably many CD families that were lost there. So, if Shanks were to start going around and spilling any details he may have found out from Roger, it would cause alot of problems, that could be another reason for his dealings with the Gorosei, they stay off his radar, and he stays off theirs? To me that would be the easiest way to explain it, but since we still know so little about both Shanks AND God Valley, anything is on the table really
Happy birthday Big Dawg 🎉🤙🏿the big 30 how does it feel?
Let's go tekking
Uta is probably running Shanks' territory in the background as a Commander in canon.
Sipping tea from my new panda mug The vikings of bears in the east
I think shanks was put in the chest by Rocks, Rocks was collecting those with the ability to use conquerors haki, much like his crew, post god valley rogers crew found the chest
2 times screaming kids have been found in chests by Pirates, 3 times screaming kids have been in chests lol
Are you talking about Gaimon?
@user-cc6xi8px9f lol that makes 4 I was talking about law
If you want some good Snake facts Clint's reptiles is a good channel to check out
10:20 - The fact that you know that Yasopp was recruited before Usopp was born, yet you still wonder why he didn't stay to raise him. He already had a bounty by that point.
Have yet to watch, but my headcanon until proven otherwise is that Shanks is a celestial Dragon found at god valley, and Buggy is Rocks’ son also found at god valley
I think Down D. Stairs is responsible for throwing kids in treasure chests, and down stairs. Rip Kuina
Maybe the ancient home of the Figarland family was in west blue, and Shanks has nostalgia like for his ancestors. Like when americans have nostalgia for their Irish, Scottish or whatever ancestry, even if they've never been to those places. That seems like the Occam's razor explanation to me :)
I like to imagine baby shanks crawling around during god valley battle like baby groot dancing around the battle in guardians of the galaxy 2
"Shanks was wearing a onesie with sun and moon"
Oh, like a *Celestial* onesie? 👀
Tekking, can you link the lights of your set-up? thanks!
This makes me wonder about the gorosei talking with shanks scene, they made time for him “only because it’s you”. Now you can chalk this up to shanks infamy but what if god valley and some level of royalty is involved?
my two favorite speculations about shanks is that he is a world noble or that he is the son of of rocks
