Recently rode an R9T with a full AKRA system. Sounded OK to me. Same day rode a bone stocck 2014 R1200GS, factory system is OK too. I would get rid of the factory can just for the weight savings and nothing else. Loud systems get old quick on long runs at highway speeds. I have a 2003 SV1000N with D&D "mufflers" BUT there's no such thing as muffling going on when ALL you can see is a straight pipe perforated core from start to end. Sounds awesome tho. 🤘🏻😈
I use my K25 without the muffler and the engine, acceleration and driving changes a lot. Cheers from Costa Rica and hope to see more mods and get some new ideas.
"Dave's not here man ?" Another..and even better video using the 3 camera technique..(there's 3 GPs on my Scout). BMW, along with Sena, may have Dunning-Kruger Syndrome in its customer comments dept..that would answer your rhetorical question of "why.." A hack/trick is to cut a couple of slots in the pipe ends and tighten with a hose (spiral screw w/slotted band) clamp. In the video, I believe I saw, (definitly saw after review) when your Cap Mount GP looked down the pipe (@ the 6:26 timestamp) after removing the boat anchor, the illuminated floor (?) I'll review later after I put pants on. Oh the conundrum of pants v. video views IS perplexing. The Sport Can sounded fantastic the second I heard it ! Good editing, and only your first try at it, as well. Stay well..we're all in this together.
Ah, the deep joy of BMW ownership! The "HOW MUCH???" Factor at play again. Loved the absolute bodgery at play in this vid. Home spannering at its very best. Poor Dave, weeping in the corner. Great multi camera editing there bru.
I replaced my loud but legal end can on my Honda after about 18 months with the stock end can. Loud can was fine on short trips but drove me mad when touring. When you say you don't normally wear pants, I hope you mean trousers. You Americans! 😁
Full system akrapovic hp exhaust on my r1200 gs lc 2015 it sounds like a monster every where where i drive people looking what the hell is coming Love your videos
Long Way Home definitely will ride it in this days, do you think honda will come with new xadv 750 with touch display and dynamic esa on it and more power
Every time I go down that road, I end up realising that just leaving the exhaust on, is good enough. The aftermarket exhausts are so expensive - the only one that would be interesting is the Yoshimura but living in South Africa, these are also super expensive. My pet peeve: if you want me to advertise your brand, pay me - I don't want to have your brand name in huge letters on the side!
Awesome. Just found you on RUclips. Love the videos I’ve watched of yours. SA flag??? With some South African accent there mixed with a European accent, right?
Yoshimura cans have a deep throb, very much to my liking. But I have an Akra, because that came with the bike I bought. Contrary to the common belief, these after-market cans are not used to make the exhaust note louder, but deeper. More throaty, more “masculine”. Original cans sound like popcorn machines more than not
I often wondered if you were a Saffer because of your accent. Now I know, having seen the flag on your top box. Nice to see how far we've spread and how you seem to be enjoying yourself there. I'm sort of planning a European trip and will make a point of riding Romania and looking you up when I do. Lekker, Boet.
@@LongWayHome I will for sure but would like you to show me some local rides too. Your area looks amazing for riding. I have a 2015 GSA L/C and am trying to figure out whether to send it over or buy/rent a bike. You have any opinions?
@@LongWayHome Oh, one other thing. I met up with a French guy here who gutted his standard pipe on his GSA. Now THAT sounded good. Perhaps your next project?
Probably the best video i have watched since the zombie virus took away our freedom to ride. But where was Dave? Clearly a two man precision engineering project.
Sounds like a very large chainsaw when revs held to me. I do like how the smaller slip-on shows the wheels lack of swing-arm right side. I have a r1200r and want to fit a slip-on so i'm looking around.
I know I might be a little late to throw in my idea here but... as almost 2 years have past since you uploaded this video. Instead of upgrading the muffler... Have you thought of removing the CAT and junction box under the bike and have a Y pipe made up? BUT remember to keep the existing 'Flapper" valve in your configuration. Not sure what this will do on the Beemer but it makes the Ducati Multistrada sound awesome while keeping the original looks and at a very minimal cost. Have a great day. From the Land of OZ
Tradionally if you change muffler for sound gain you will loose a little bottom end torque plus chew a bit more fuel. This cannot be avoided as you are changing air flow balance & definately the standard computer will not compensate. But overall a little more sound may be worth it.
I would swap the Go Pro for a Fez(little round brim less hat). I think that would look a lot better. I just don't think that exhaust muffler has a very long term future, loses too much back pressure, performance. Hang the expense and get a decent muffler for A BMW. I put a Yoshimura copy on a GS1000 once. Not a good idea in the long run.
Put that thing back for sale on EBAY or Amazon, get "some" money back and buy a decent [used] exhaust OR new if you feel rich. Everything will be fine. 👌🏻🙂👍🏻
Your "voluntary home arrest" is taking a toll. You can be cheap, but no need to take it to the next level. Interesting video nonetheless. How you doing dear friend?
Where is Dave? What did you do to Dave? We want Dave back. Dave if you can here this, blink 3 times when cameras are on. We miss you Dave, come back to us. We will find you soon. Cheers from 🇺🇸
The shorty sounds sweet and probably throws a lot of heat on pannier. Sorry just be happy with you have. If you need a good note get a Harley it's ok to own 2 bikes. But A for effort.
Loved the video. Just an FYI, you can get a sound level meter app to check on the decibels for free at NIOSH.Gov (National Institute for occupational safety and health in the United States). Works great on apple or android. Second, have you guys ever tried one of those Polish De-cat exhaust mid pipes? Was thinking about buying one of those for my old 1150 Rockster.

Aside from the added noise, the one downside I can see is that your shorter “sporty” exhaust will be impinging on the inside of your panniers and will possibly mark - or even scorch them. One thing - 52 cm is about 21 inches or about the length of your forearm. I think you meant 52 mm. Good grief - are you an American? By the way - why doesn’t Dave help with the cameras? He seems like a rather lazy bugger in many respects.
What's your favorite aftermarket exhaust?
Usually the cheapest of the selection of reputable manufacturers, not Aliexpress specials. 😉
Currently it's Arrow and V&H.
keep doing these type of DIY project videos please
I’m a big Yoshimura exhaust fan ran them on my Hayabusa and all my GSXRs but I haven’t tried one on the R1259GS yet.
I really in joy your videos and I think your camera set up worked well.

Make sure you ride it for a while before :)

I put on a similar exhaust on my 1200GSA. I had a custom link pipe made and a custom mount to fit the stock the exhaust mount. Sounds like a beast!
Interested to see
Yeah, i hear a lot from my friend GS exhaust, nothing from them interesting me....event when they removed db killer. Stay on stock is better!
Exactly, where is Dave when you need him? Will new exhaust heat damage panniers?
Love your sense of humor!! Good video editing as well. Zip ties will solve everything.
Nice name. Led & Bob.
Not sure about the silencer, but the video editing was really well done!
LWH you are saving my sanity during 2nd lock down
Sounds just like my brush cutter!! Lot of fun viewing mate. Stay safe.
Dominator HP, I have 3 of them on all bikes and are certified and nice sound(db killer can be removed after registrazion of needed)
is this true? The exhaust valve assists braking and engine braking. If you cancel, you will lose braking power at some speeds.
Nice take, it's definitely worth it to get the same muffler road legal, sounds great, great engine just had to be heard cool.

That's the point :D Welcome!
Nice video quality, but why there is so much black smoke coming out when you use the new can?
I removed my GS -OEM exhaust to fit my (Givi) pannier frame. I nearly put my back out, it weighs about 2 Tonnes 😂😂. Great video, thank you.
The video is simply amazing!! Kudos, bro!!

Try the dominator gp1,it's sounds good
That was strangely satisfying :-)
I prefer the sound of the little can . . . but what feedback do you get from a pillion?
A rack for some mini-sidewinder missiles would liven things up - bit of a blast. No explosives just paint bomb bullets.
I love the idea. 😉

The Polish De-cat pipes are available On eBay here in the US for a fairly cheap price.
What brand socket set is that? Looks like quite a bit in a compact package.

Nice sound! Hope you do find a silencer on Amazon. Would be terrific.
Just curious. Did you notice the oil being sprayed on your pannier rack when you revved up the after market exhaust
Only when I was editing :) Not oil though. Condensation with soot.
Take a look at the Lextech Sp8!👍 good video !.
I think you’re definitely onto something. It most definitely didn’t improve it.

Would be proud to ride my bike with it on
Have you tried with the panniers on.. It might just barbeque the panniers. 😅
Stay with stock. It is heavy but sounds good.
Why don’t you repack the original exhaust, you had the grinder out so you need a welder
52cm ?
Nice tool kit. U mind sharing the name ? And yes Dave should hv been there to help u. 😜🤙
