If its warm enough I swear by foaming especially with my new favorite soap the Griots Garage Foaming Surface Wash. My car has 3 coats of CQuartz UK so if I wash it enough (say twice per week) foaming is all I have to do. Typically I foam the front end the back end and all lower parts of the panels. Let it dwell for 5-10 minutes and rinse. I then re-foam the entire car again waiting 5-10 minutes and blow dry with the master blaster. This gets the car 95%-98% clean the rest I take care of with a CarPro Reload/Ech20 mix using your Jack towels.

There is a channel by the name of "Teuku Alfie" in which he foams part of a white vehicle with a few different shampoos/cleaners. He lets it dwell for a few minutes then rinses. Very interesting results on some of them. Some soaps do add cleaning power as you can see in his videos while others do nothing. Check him out.

This makes a helluva lot of sense. I’ve sold appliances for 13 years. In our annual training, the trainers made a HUGE point about a problem that was occurring in the dishwasher industry- People were pre-rinsing their dishes and claiming that dishes were not being cleaned properly. They wanted us to drill into customers that they are NOT..TO..Pre-rinse dishes, but to simply scrape the dish, then place it into the dishwasher because the soap needed the food particles to react with....It makes sense to apply soap to react with the dirt particles to loosen, rinse off, then soap once more and take a wet mitt to it.

So its really about lubricity, which the foam/soap provides. So, as long as you can put some kind of soap/foam down prior to wiping/washing the car with a mitt or microfiber towel, that would be beneficial. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense to me at least, are these people who show putting massive amounts of foam down, like 1/2 inch to 1+ inch thick or so as if the thicker it is the better?? What is the foam doing that's not actually touching the paint? In other words, the foam that's furthest away from the paint, at the outside and never touches the paint, what exactly is that doing to help clean the paint? Simply, if the foam was say 2 feet thick, would that clean the paint better than 1 feet thick? Perhaps it needs to be 3 feet thick, 5 feet thick? Do you see how absurd this is? Put a small amount of soap/lubricity on the surface prior to wiping, I believe that's the point. This world will sell your own exhaled breath back to you if they could CON-vince you that you needed it, and sadly there are some who would actually buy it. The auto detail industry is no different, their goal is to sell products you don't really need.

  • @stevegreer1963
    @stevegreer1963 5 лет назад +3

So if foaming as a prewash is a benefit before power washing, why don’t we apply a second layer of foam right before a contact wash for extra lubrication? Seems to me like it’s fairly simple to mix enough solution in the foam cannon for two applications, instead of just one. It’s an extra step, but isn’t the extra 60 seconds it takes to apply the second foam application worth reducing the possibility of marring even more?

I have been hand washing all my cars since I graduated in 72 and as a thirty-year member of my Vette club, we understand how to maintain paint and not across contaminate grit during hand washing. I have a black 67 vette that I have owned since 76 it has been pressure rinsed and hand washed every other week and has little to no swirl marks. Car finish maintenance has come a long way with Ceramics, clay, foaming, and types of soaps from what we had in the seventies. I use foam on both of my Vettes and wifes Lexus too and all have been ceramic coated. I use the foam to help deslove the road tar, bugs, and ocean marine layer salt grime (Greasy film). I think it does help with those, But I'm not really seeing much if anything benefits as far as the dirt film. if the dirt has still adhered to the finish you still rub dirt across the surface just a little easier because not all the dirt is floating in the suds. I started using foam two years ago and really only find foaming helps with the bugs, tar, and ocean grime. My wife's black Lexus which was foamed since new has just as many swirl marks as my Vette.

I can believe this. I believe it would be similar to the effect of shaving cream. The benefit of shaving cream is that it keeps your skin & beard in contact longer with water, making the skin & beard softer so that it's easier to shave. With foaming your car, I bet that it's really the water that's doing the job, but it's the foam that keeps the water in contact with the car's surface for longer.

2:01 - My “favourite” band changes constantly, but what is consistent is my belief that Led Zeppelin were the greatest band of all time. They had many different sounds, and tried many different styles, and they all worked. I’ve never heard any other band with the type of range that Zeppelin had, which didn’t sound forced or out of place. Actually, The Beatles could be included with that type of description, but I don’t think the Beatles did it the same way or at the same level that Zeppelin did.
Robert’s voice sounded different in every song, Jimmy had a different guitar tone in every song, JPJ played so many different instruments on all the different songs, and Bonham was a monster on those drums with his sense of timing, rhythm and creativity.
Physical Graffiti will always be my favourite album for sure.

I prefer the foaming prior to micro fiber washing. Our vehicles drive on oily roads and once those roads become wet from a rain storm, the dirt stuck to them has a small concentration of random oils and fluids blended in. Plain water rinse cannot dissolve or break down those oils holding onto the grit. With a quality soap ph neutral and safe for all forms of vehicle finish, foaming will dissolve or breakdown the road oils prior to surface washing. Love the vid! Always a fan of foaming first.

Well for perfect cleaning before polishing you have to use contact fibre glove, becouse active foam cannot pull off whole micro dirty dust It just helps with oxidation . You have to use deironizers and claying for the next step before polishing. Waxes saving your time and coat in future.

Hi do you know if their are any foam cannons that will work on 1.3GPM ? My Pressure Washer is 1750 PSI but only 1.3GPM. It looks like most foam cannons require 2.0GPM! Hopefully I don’t have to buy a new Pressure Washer? Thanks very much Bill

Not mentioning "Grace, Too," when referencing The Tragically Hip is blasphemy. You probably call Toronto, "Tor-rahn-toe," instead of, "Tor-rahnna."

I'm gonna start using 10w 40 in my foam cannon for better lubricity!!! Come on, stop selling unnecessary gear. Washing a car has become so complicated now that you just have to have a guy that calls him self a professional detailer to wash a car. For gods sake, really!!! Just don't buy a black car...

I can get 17 inches of foam thickness with my new foam cannon. The top 16.995 inches of foam makes me feel really good. No effect on the surface, but it makes me really happy.

My previous car was only washed at gas stations with car washes and I used a dirty towel stored in my trunk. It looked so awful before I sold it and wished I had gotten into car detailing but I only got into it after getting a new car. i'm guessing had I hand washed it the entire time via foam cannon, rinse, foam cannon and hand wash. it would have looked far nicer. Had I clayed. polish, and waxed it before selling it with a full interior detail, I likely would have gotten around $600-800 more on the resale. Oh well...

I'm just a car enthusiast, love the videos, because now I know the foam does remove a lot of the dirt without any agitation, my question is, would it make any sense too, foam the car, rinse it, then foam it again, use a mitt to agitate while the soap is on the panel, then rinse. I hate buckets!

Sort of glad I have a white car. Although it shows up bugs real good.
To much work to clean a car. Find a car wash.
I've thought of foaming and now I know it won't take off all the dirt.
Had my car sit a few months under a tree. Took it to a touchless car wash. Dirty spots still there. Iust do a contact wash. Or soft touch car wash. I don't have a power washer to use a foam cannon. And u still have dirt. I was hoping no dirt after the foam job.

You asked about favorite bands so...
Rush is my favorite band of all time as there has never been a band that puts out that much incredible music with just three musicians.
Stevie Ray Vaughan is my favorite guitarist of all time and nobody has ever played with more passion and feeling in their playing. I miss him.

A neutral ph foam cannon soap may remove light dirt. But it will Not remove road film. A touchless low ph soap like Freaky Foam will remove road film. If there is nothing agitating the surface of the vehicle. You can use a low ph or high ph soap to remove road film. But you are Not going to remove road film without agitating the vehicle and using a neutral foam cannon or car wash soap. Which are pretty much the same product.

Do you not think that sometimes people just over think things , for instance my car was covered in dust and light rain drops mixed in , I soaked it with water from the hose not power then agitated it with my brush dried it out and job done in 10 minutes , also I see most professionals don't like brushes ! I don't know why , they're very soft and you can hose the dirt off better than a microfiber and 2nd bucket , my brush is a light color and you can see the dirt come right off so why the big no no with brushes? I've had my car for over 13 yrs and the paint is in great condition.

Most of the time I foam one side of the car, work one panel at a time with a mit flipping the mit each panel and rinsing it ever other panel. Top to bottom, rockers last. I call it a one bucket wash.

Another good thing about foam cannons is that you can use them on your house siding to put on the soap before rinsing. They work great.

I guess if you are really trying to justify using a foam cannon versus just water then your argument works. However, foam canons are marketed as a way to clean your car not just loosen dirt. If I'm going to have to hand wash the car anyway their are many methods to do this without having to buy a foam cannon and a pressure washer.

The hell with foam crap....rinse the car.....microfiber with a good wash and wax wash....by hand.....anyway....to me...that foam is a waste of time and water....wash by hand...dry....hybrid turtle wax ceramic coating while wet....dry....spray again a second coat.....rinse off and dry

you feel smoother surface because it is lubricated by foam cleaner, lol. dirt that stayed on the paint is more or less the same, been tested and proven with scopes etc. funny, how foaming is always hyped by the car wash industry, so it can charge more..

  • @pnweezy

This is what I'm talking about. Foam cannon is to loosen up more dirt and grime before you contact wash. Anything that without contact wash will not wash the dirt off. Like some one comment that foam cannon is fun way to wash it.

  • @48Ballen
    @48Ballen 4 года назад

Sorry but this is just nonsense. If you wash the car with soap on the mitten, you get exactly the same effect. A water power rinse removes heavier mud and dirt and then while wet you use the soft mitten with soap. Scott, the foaming is just a fad and will disappear and the time you wasted foaming the car could have been used to really clean it with soap on a mitten. There is no benefit at all as the final result is the same.

Why did you not do a like for like?
You should have given the power rinse side a rinse, then rinsed off at the same time as the foam giving the water a chance to soak the dirt. I feel you would still be correct but you need to be a little more scientific to remove doubt.

Soap or detergent attracts the dirt while water just pushes it. It may not be as visible on darker cars or cars that are semi clean anyways. There is a reason you have soap on your sink, in your laundry room, and in your garage... it works
