The line “can’t believe I’ll have to live through that” has to be on of the saddest lines I’ve heard in a song. My worst fear is losing my parents and knowing one day it will happen kills me.
It’s not as bad as what your mind makes it out to be in your youth. As you grow older and they grow older, it becomes almost like you get used to the idea that all life is just awaiting death. The trick is not to waste the life you’re living. Finneas wrote about this in Only a Lifetime. One of the greatest songs ever written. My mom died last May. It was unexpected, but I was so blessed…you know why? Because I saw her every day almost for 7 years before she died. She died knowing I was there and we both loved each other so much. If I had not moved home to be with her, her death would have hit me hard. Don’t waste the time you have.

I lost a childhood friend to a motorcycle accident about 7 years ago. The line where he talks about his friend running a red light is hard to listen to because I think of her every time I listen to this song. I can hear and relate to his pain and it makes me feel like I’m not alone.

Love is pain has to be one of the deepest songs. Finneas doesn’t need belting vocals to make a powerful song, he just uses language that hits so strongly you feel his pain
He used some mixing of vocals to be more coherent in this song, but it's minimal compared to his talent.
A lot of people say he is underrated but music doesn’t mean the same for everyone. His music is open for interpretation. Maybe that’s his downfall. Not all people understand his genius. He is a phenomenal artist with extraordinary talent. ❤️☮️

This song is so deep it’s difficult to truly understand it at first… but I think all of us have an underlying dread that we try our best to ignore, and that is the impermanence of life.
