    That was fantastic - like hanging out with a couple friends (who can absolutely wail!). Love the sounds you brought out of those guitars. Sorry Emily you weren't able to play (hope the finger heals up soon) but have to say Nisbelle your playing was incredible!
    I really liked how you brought out the J Mascis (the vaunted JMJM) at the end and confirmed that it's really a totally different beast than a traditional jazzmaster.
    I really love my Classic Vibe JM - question I'm working through is whether to save/trade my way up to the V2 or to upgrade the pups and trem and call it a day :). No wrong answer and in the mean time it's my #1.

  • @bciecko1
    @bciecko1 11 месяцев назад +9

    That Squier is really more suited to be paired against the Vintera Jazzmaster verse the Vintera II. Pups in Squier are 60's voiced and the Vintera II has the 50's voiced and it's gonna make them instantly a different flavor and not indicative of which to get or what to expect from Squier vs Fender.

    I got the same 40th anny Jazzmaster last year on a killer Black Friday deal.
    Liked it, but then proceeded to put major upgrades into it. Electronics, pickups, Descendant vibrato, Stay Trem bridge, some cosmetics. Now I love it!

    It is so refreshing to see a review where it’s not “which one is better” but “which one do you like more and why” and y’all pointing out where/how other people may prefer one you don’t. There are “crap” guitars, but serviceable ones really are a matter of preferences. PRS makes excellent quality guitars, I just don’t like them.
    I knew it was good when you nailed my opinion on glossy necks: I don’t like them when my hand sticks, which may or may not be the case. I think you’re the first person I’ve heard call out the input jack problem. It’s so real. I can’t even buy jacks as bad as they use on

    Great video. I recently purchased my first offset, a Squire 40th Anniversary (just like yours). I paid about $400. Currently, it's getting a setup job at Mike & Mike's. So far, I like it. I'm trying to get used to the JM-style pickups. a little trebly for my taste. I like the Vintera II, but not enough to pay the extra bucks, at least not at this time. Maybe somewhere down the line.

      For me, the secret to a Jazzmaster is to use the heck out of the tone knob. My JM bridge pickup sounds amazing with the tone set in the 5-6 range. For the neck pickup, I drop the volume to 9 to tame just a little highs without losing sparkle. The secret to the rhythm circuit is to use it with fuzz 😀

    • @miserableunoriginal
      @miserableunoriginal 11 месяцев назад +2

    Apparently Fenders come with 10s and Squiers with 9s. I played several Squier Classic Vibe models (JM, Jag and Strat) last week side by side with their Fender counterparts and I noticed the string tension feel too. The shop clrk confirmed the string gauge difference. That said, for a casual player the Squier CVs are weirdly and perfectly good. I'd have a very hard time justifying the 300% price increase to get the Fender.

  • @feinkevi
    @feinkevi 11 месяцев назад +5

    Spot on. I’ll add that I think adding some more use of the trem and a closer look at the bridges would show a bigger difference between these three as well. The stock bridge and tailpiece on my JMJM made it totally unusable as it would pull out of tune instantly, swapping to a fender tailpiece and mustang bridge made a massive difference. The squier vintage tuners also feel like a big step down, and the neck radius is a preference thing that might push people towards one or the other, but all that said all three of these are great for what they are (and their price point) - thanks for the great comparison vid!

    Pro Audio Star are super cheeky, they circumvent MAP laws by exploiting the "open box" factor - as soon as they open the box, they're free to sell the guitar for whatever they want to, rather than the MAP set by the manufacturer. Here in the UK, we don't have those MAP laws, so our retailers are constantly fighting for the lowest price. Works out well for the consumer, but really stings the stores - especially smaller stores that can't afford to take a hit.

Before that, with a tax return one of their blowout sales allowed me to outfit my band with all 3 of the "skyburst metallic" Contemporary Series models for like half retail, now we look super profesh for the 2 or 3 gigs a year we play 🤣

    @BradleyHansonPhotography 2 месяца назад +1

    Thanks for the video. Both great guitars, but I’m impressed how the Squier sounds at the price point. You need exponential spending for incremental improvements, but the Fenders seem like less hum/noise from better shielding. It comes down to budget and how important the subtle differences are. The tremolo on my Squier isn’t great… I think Fender and Squier ship with 9s. I replaced mine on my Squier 60s Classic Vibe with 10s and I’m going back to 9 because I prefer the lower tension

    Really great video you two! I enjoyed that so much! I've had a J Mascis JM for a few years and love it. I really did want something that was closer to a traditional JM but still felt good like my JMJM. I was thinking of buying a second one and doing a pickup swap, when I saw the 40th anniversary squire go in sale about a month ago for $250. I figured it was worth a shot. And it is fantastic! I'm so glad to have it. Thanks for doing this comparison. You can hear the refinements in the sounds of the Fender over the squire however, I really liked the neck sounds on the Squire better on both lead and rhythm circuits. I'm curious what it would sound like to switch out the bridge pickup on the squire with fender? I also like the matte finish better. For the price difference I'll stick with the squire. Super fun video to watch! And Nisbelle always looks so happy when she's playing, it's a beautiful thing to see that kind of joy.

    Great and fun video! I think some important differences to consider between the Squier and Vintera are that the Squier has a modern 9.5 radius, bone nut, and truss rod access at the head. Vintera has 7.25” radius, plastic nut, and truss rod access at the heel. For the price of the Vintera you could buy 2 or 3 Squiers which have better specs if not the Fender logo.

    I bought the Vintera II partly because of video. The neck is amazing. One of the best feeling feeling necks I’ve played. I love how thin it is.

    j mascis said he loves loud guitars and abrasive, so it makes sense. That squier is great for noise rock, if u have ever listened to dinosaur jr. j mascis's band for those who dont know, its emotionally loud and in yuh face tamed by j .mascis soft gentle singing

    Dam I really love jazzmasters now I don’t know what I was thinking before . Keep up the great work . I don’t know if you’ve discussed this yet but when I was playin shows back in the day it gets hot as hell in Australa and my hands would get sweaty and sticky yes gross . But got a way around this ?

    What an AWESOME review not to mention such goood guitar playing. Your tone’s, cadence, and just “feel” for the moment was dope! I’ve been on the hunt for a really good JM. I had a J Masic squier but it wasn’t for me! Have you ever played the old Mexican classic series JM’s or the new American vintage ones?

    They know J Masic, so you know they're real. Even Stevie T doesn't know how Mascis is.

    • @GetOffset
      @GetOffset  9 месяцев назад +1

      Does he really not? I listened to weird indie shit when I was in high school (and beyond, obviously). I have a lot of holes in my knowledge bass in plenty of genres, but I feel like J is one of those you should know even if you're not into that kind of sound.

    • @ProudFilthyCasual
      @ProudFilthyCasual 9 месяцев назад

      @@GetOffset That is also how I felt haha. But yeah, Stevie reviewed the Rolling Stones list of 200 Greatest Guitarists and didn’t know who J was, which was baffling for a guy of his playing level. He wasn’t aware of Kurt Vile either, so maybe it’s just an indie gap in his music collection haha.
