Aaaaaand YOU CAN HIRE THE DRESS!!!! I've given it to the Bell Street shop on permanent loan for all you Moulin-Rouge-lovers out there who are approximately a size 10-12 to wear it! I'm so bowled over by how hard they worked on this, and I was very proud to wear it on our beautiful musicals-and-films-themed-wedding day. I'll cherish those memories forever. (I wore it at the opening night of Opera Australia's "La Traviata" on the Harbour a few weeks later too! Pretty appropriate seeing as Moulin Rouge was based on La Traviata.) But now I'm also happy to share this iconic dress with the ladies of Sydney....though I might borrow it to wear to MOULIN ROUGE THE MUSICAL in Melbourne if I can persuade my hubby Ben to go for a little trip down to Melbs with me ;-) (Hint, hint, Ben...) Congratulations to Ali and Chloe on this fabulous dress and video!

This is incredible and gorgeous craftswomanship!! But the most miraculous thing of all.....IS THAT BINDING FOOT ATTACHMENT! LIKE WHATTTT EVEN.
I'm so glad that there are others that admire the Red Dress as much as I always have! PS, one dressmaker stressed the importance of "rounding" the ends of the plastic boning, (is that zip-ties? they said, if not rounded, the plastic easily cuts/wears its way thru the fabric, peeking out of little holes in the top or bottom of the Corset). It came out beautifully!! 👏 Amazing work!!👏❤👗!!
Yes, that’s important! You can see when I’m cutting the hard plastic boning I curve the scissors as I cut it then file it down with a nail file. The sew-in boning that I use on the rest of the dress is cut with slightly rounded ends then I take little scraps of iron on interfacing, fold them over the end of each piece and iron them in place so they have an extra layer of protection at the ends. It took forever with this dress because I think there were 17 pieces of boning!
There is always a risk of the boning eventually cutting through though, but if you do it properly you should get plenty of wears out of the dress before that happens!

I spent many years in the custom frock business and I can say I don't miss the late nights, achy fingers, and sore neck and shoulders one little bit. Although I do miss the creative part of the process.
You do what you do for as long as you can because your work is beautiful and you make people happy.
