It's actually possible to get up by bouncing an aerial attack on I forget if its the wall or the broken stairway itself, to send yourself backwards, which gives you just enough lift.
I didn't realize you could use a barrel either. What I used to do is land on the very side of the stairs. Once on it you'll start sliding, but you can jump immediately too so that's how I would get up.
Was it though? I feel it was very much _within_ its time. There were better games, there were worse games. Only with the, some would say, ridiculous amount of extra titles it received, it turned into something really outstanding.
It’s funny cause you actually don’t even have to move that barrel at all you can stand on top of it and just regularly jump and reach the platform above it and jump around to the ladder even at that you can go to the boxes that are idle there in the back and use those ones to reach the platform inside as well
That's why KH games are so perfect. There's so much to discover. I don't care about open worlds, I love small levels with perfect gamedesign like this. You always have something to find !

I never actually thought it was possible to get to it and assumed the developers left it there as a decoration or a tease. I even played the hell out of this game, owning it since about 2003. Sad...

It seems like the devs intend for you to backtrack after you get glide. The white mushrooms there are special white mushrooms that only take Stop, which also comes from Neverland IIRC.
You gotta use stop on those guys for a large pink version to spawn in the treehouse. One of many mechanical enemies you need to deal with to get Ultima Weapon in KH1 Final Mix. They can either be fun or frusterating depending on how patient you are with them all.

I played the original on PS2, and even bought and replayed the remastered version on the PS3, and yet I didn't know the platform at 00:50 existed, nor that you could actually climb that high. I think I've always just ignored the mushroom and/or have just forgotten about it altogether. 😂
I know we can just jump through it, but I was curious as to what the barrel was for and why it was there in the first place, so I tried to figure it out. Perhaps we can use this? I enjoy experimenting with various materials, particularly those related to the environment. It's one of those moments where curiosity takes over.😉 The attacking in the air took me a couple of tries to get there, so that's basically all I can share.
