Most of this, I can't comment on but I will say that in the manga, the duel is different. Pegasus is not there in person. Yugi duels against a magical recording of Pegasus. What Pegasus does is have him make his deck in front of the TV and then uses subliminal messaging to get him to make his deck the way he wants. It's not specifically mentioned but I don't believe Yami shuffles his deck so the Pegasus knows what order his deck is in. He then uses more subliminal messaging to influence Yami's plays so it looks like Pegasus knows what he is gonna do. After Yami loses the duel, Pegasus uses the magic he imbued in the tape to put Yugi's grandpa in it instead of locking him in a card. I personally prefer the manga version because it doesn't reveal that Pegasus can read minds until the duel against Kaiba. We don't know how he knows that Keith cheated until then and it gives us the satisfaction of everything finally clicking.

Also, weevil dindt stole the kingdon rules as he say in the dub. In the japanese pegasus told him the field rules as a bonus prize for the first place.
@@cr0wcr4wi guess stealing the rules make him more villainous making Weavel's defeat all the more sweet. However, Pegasus giving him the new rules as a prize works better, as it shows even seemingly meaningless duels have ramifications on everyone else.
I think it's mentioned in the subbed version, that Serpent Knight Dragon and Red-Eyes Black Dragon are both cards Rex had as prizes for big tournaments. It's possible that he got Red-Eyes as a second place prize for this tournament they're in right now, but both are probably already in his deck. Edit: I also kind of felt the same as you about the idea that Yugi should have won that first duel because the clock ran out just a second before Summoned Skull took out the Faceless Mage; and I also grew to appreciate it for the Pharoah being confounded for the first time, but you're actually underselling how great of a feat it was that Pegasus won the way he did. The anime doesn't make it as clear as the manga does but the Pegasus that's dueling here is really just a recording, that's not the real Pegasus that won by a a time-out. Pegasus was so good that he literally beat Yugi before the match even started, he recorded himself dueling by just using educated guesses and giving subliminal messages for what he predicted Yugi would use, and he still won. Edit 2: The whole friend group actually isn't based around the Duel Monsters game, Yugi and Joey are the only who are seriously interested in the game, Tristian and Tea are only casuals and would still be friends with them regardless.
7:50 something about inconsistencies with Pegasus character. As an amateur writer I can tell you that writing is for me a discovery process. You come up with ideas in the beginning, you can even plot the events and characters as best as you can, but then as you write, you start to go different ways as you consider character decisions in a given situation. If you were writing a manga and you had to produce 1 chapter every week or two or three or whatever, that sounds rough because you don't have the ability to go back and fix it or re-write it or add some foreshadowing.
Even though I haven't seen that many episodes of the anime- only the abridged series, I love people being pedantic about fiction for no particular reason. 😂 Subbed!

I can answer why we learn Pegasus is a nice guy later, yet portrayed as an outright villain originally: power corrupts. Pegasus had a goal and was so determined to succeed that the power of the Millennium Eye blinded him and corrupted him from within. Let's not forget that the Eye previously belonged to the Pharaoh's uncle, who was bitter his son wasn't the Pharaoh instead. That bitterness could have lingered in the Eye for all those centuries and slowly warped Pegasus from within. Which further explains how he could do such a hard 180 turn after Bakura stole the Eye from him. With its corrupting influence gone, Pegasus became a better person
Yugi in the begining was using reverse psychology to get Gramps to train Joey Also the weirdness with the fusion monsters being played like normal monsters (see Flame Swordsman later) is mostly a dub thing to make the cards match the real one...which was a bad idea, since most fusion monsters wearn't originally fusion monsters when the manga came out. It would have been better if the time ran out while Yugi was mid sentence, thereby causing him to lose before the attack declaration.
Well I’ve heard that in yugioh cards that let you see your opponent’s cards are over powered and frequently banned because of letting you see their hand more so than what it lets you do to their hand. That being said it’s probably more useful for to be combined with more generic cards like judgement than cards like dragon capture jar. I think the cards you're referring to are the ones like delinquent duo which let you discard cards from your opponents hand with 0 cost. That is super overpowered.
