    You can rent a lighthouse for a few hours from a state park pretty cheap and get custom dresses on Etsy at budget prices as well. That's how my wife and I did it and it was a perfect day! We didn't even spent $1k on the whole thing and everything went perfectly! Got married by the sea, then had dinner with family at our favorite restaurant and stayed overnight in a hotel. Weddings don't have to be expensive to be beautiful or meaningful!

    I got married a couple weeks ago, and spent < $1000. We held it in the backyard of a friend's house, everyone was asked to bring food, many of the guests were musicians so that took care of the entertainment, spent very little on the clothes, hair, and nails, and the officiants were long-time friends of ours. And everyone had a great time.

    A couple of my online buddies got married and invited me and our other friends to attend via zoom. They opted for a small party in the backyard of the family home with a bit of stuff from their favorite tearoom for their reception. They actually had to reschedule after they both got COVID on the original date, but since it was a small ceremony it wasn't a big deal. Being able to just tie the knot with support from people that love them was far more meaningful than any overpriced party could ever be.

      I don’t know how people afford it but as for the prices… a dress can easily run 3 to 8k, venues anywhere between 4 to 10k or more…. and the rings!! It’s an insanely overpriced industry… I just can’t believe the cost of it 😢

    • @Zuraneve
      @Zuraneve 2 года назад +1

      Gen X, and I don't understand these prices either. I just want something small, no frills, no fuss, probably outside. My partner is convinced his extended family will disown him if we don't have a big, Catholic wedding, complete with an open bar. (They aren't paying, we are.) Happily, we've got a few more years to figure out what the compromise will be.

      After the Amber Heard and Jonny depp case the couple's must have a lawyers experience. So i would doubt that. Also no money left after the marriage since it was so expensive. Maybe we can get a two for one deal.

    Funny thing...marriage was initially a statement of affluence and power. It was never about love. To this day it's still a measure of wealth. People in the wedding industry will make you pay through the nose for your special day. It's great that some couples can keep it simple instead of plurging on exorbitant items they can barely afford just to keep up with the joneses

    It's all a scam to me; starting with the engagement ring. Instead of financially handcuffing yourself to a jeweler, put that money in a house. Even for the wedding ceremony itself, get a simple (possibly engraved) band. When you reach a MILESTONE anniversary (10th, 25th, etc.) or get the house paid off, THEN go all out with the bling (if you're still together by then, of course). Stop hustlin' backwards and needlessly digging yourselves into a hole over some antiquated "fairy tale fantasy" BS.

      Its fun. It's a time when families get together. The second you want more than 50 people though, you are looking at large restaurants. Above 100 and likely you will need a venue. It's hard. You think 50 people is a lot but when you have 5 aunts and they have 12 kids and your spouse has 6 aunts and they have 18 kids and a smattering of grand kids, it's hard.
