Hi Gissele! I am Greek, but my Mother is from Montana, and she was born in a Hutterite Colony. She used to tell me all these stories, and showing me pictures but I could never imagine the life in a colony. You are such a hard working, special people, and I couldn't be more proud of my Mom's heritage. You keep the tradition and love. I absolutely love your videos, and I am so happy that I can finally show to my Greek friends & family how Hutterite life looks like, through everyday life videos. Thank you ❤

@@gisellewaldner9406 I would love to share my parent's story. My Mom was born and raised in Montana, at the age of 18 she moved in New York for studies. My Dad or Pateras ( in Greek) was born in a Greek Island, Kefallonia. At the age of 15 he moved in New York for work. Things were pretty hard back then in Greece and it was quite common for people and especially young kids to leave the country and move to the States. After a while the rest of my Dad's family moved in New York, that they were still back and forth, they never really left Greece, especially my grandparents. After a few years my Dad opened his own restaurants, whith the last one he owned in New York, that would be the lucky one to meet my Mom. My Dad was working behind the bar, and my Mom went to that restaurant with her friends. The guy who ordered her drinks was my Dad! This how they started talking, and after a while they became a couple. That year they visited Greece, and my Mom absolutely loved it! This is how the took the decision to move in Greece. They had 4 children ( including me). My grandparents from Montana visited many times Greece and they loved it!

Since you don’t like taco soup, try chicken tortilla soup. It’s literally just chicken broth, chicken, black beans, corn, and ice tomatoes. I just use salt and pepper seasoning, but you can certainly use my pepper flakes jalapeños cumin or whatever your people like. Then you Toupet with cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, tortilla strips or chips or the broken pieces at the bottom of the bag, and avocado. It’s very versatile and you can pretty much put In it and on it whatever you like. It’s our family’s favorite soup.

I started watching you after this vlog so hadn’t seen this. I was watching this today & was so surprised to see the Stringbean soup. When I was young I spent a lot of time with my grandmother. She always made a quick stringbean soup for lunch or dinner using canned ingredients. Canned green & wax beans, canned small potatoes & evaporated milk. I’m not sure if she used broth. It was a very inexpensive version that you could always have the ingredients on hand. I have never seen or heard of this soup anywhere else until now. It brought back some wonderful memories! I was lucky enough to have my grandmother live until she was 94. She spent at least a month with us summers while my children were young. She was the person I was always closest to & my husband & children absolutely loved her. Thank you
I’m very impressed, 2-3 girls, I thought there would be about 6 of you, and all the food looks great, I’m from Alberta and we have colonies close by, I was always scared I would be called in for lunch or dinner when doing some work there, and it would be chicken feet or some other different food, but this all looks so good, and I wasn’t expecting to see an elevator inside. It would be a great experience for public school girls to experience a day with you all, you all are hard working, good on all of you.
Oh we do occasionally have chicken feet but, that is something that only our olde people enjoy so we always have something else. I think it would be a wonderful experience for young girls also to see how other people do things. 😊
@@gisellewaldner9406 here where l live in South Africa people buy chicken feet which are called 'Runaways' or feet and beaks called 'Walkie Talkies' . The prepared food department sell them already cooked in a stew for those who want a quick ready-prepared meal. We love to tease visitors from other countries by offering them bunny chow which has absolutey nothing to do with bunnies or chows. A bunny chow is a half or quarter loaf of bread with its center scooped out to be filled with a curry - curried beef, curried lamb or curried beans. It was invented in my hometown as a take away food.
This reminds me of boarding school. Feeding 125 girls and 8 matrons took a lot of work, but I loved kitchen duty. I would swap with other girls, cooking rather than cleaning.
My first time seeing your vlog was a few days ago, and girl, I’m impressed with your great attitude and skills. Don’t know what your situation is , but t I’m sure it will be revealed as time goes in. Hi Giselle, Love your show! I found out on youtube that some Amish people in the US have wonderful general stores open to all and I was wondering if you knew of any Hutterite people in Manitoba that have done anything similar?? Thank-you and God's blessings always.
I always love the colony’s in Montana. I used to drive the milk. Now I’m just fedex freight. So I don’t go to the colony’s as much. Always like the people. God bless
This is really interesting! There are some very good taco soup recipes! However, I find the best ones need lots of pan fried beef mince, smoked paprika, garlic and a bit of sugar. Pinterest has some good ones!
It's definitely a better soup if you season your beef and onions and cook them together. I don't add celery , but instead we use some bell peppers that I cook til they're more browned than soft / smushy. I don't know if you have folks who have to avoid spicy foods, but if not then a good amount of black pepper gives it a nice warm zing.
It is interesting how the hutterites live and work,I am not sure what the ladies are making for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the kitchen is really big,I enjoyed watching the video

Giselle, wow! What an incredibly busy week for you. I was just reading your description. I also really appreciate you putting in the times for where to find the recipes in the video. What beautiful food. What do you use for your 'soup broth' in the Strankl Soup recipe? Very intrigued at your lifestyle, a few other questions, if you have time ... At what age does a girl start cooking for the community? ... and who trains her? I'm sure at home she learns much from her Mother, but to cook in the big kitchens is much different. Also ... who comes up with these huge recipes and timings to create these batches of food? That's quite the feat to create that much food and make it still taste well. Do Mother's with children have to do community kitchen duty? The hours are so far reaching. Thanks so much. ❤️🌷
@@gisellewaldner9406 ... Hi Giselle, yes ... you have my permission to continue my questions in a vlog. :-) 🌷❤️ I'd be honoured, and thank you for responding.
You do a very good job on your videos. I can't help but notice the similarity of the young Catholic nuns living much the same life - those who work in the kitchen.
Yes! You're correct but our kitchens aren't as big. Your life is very similar to ours. We have less work time because we meet 6 times a day for prayer, singing the psalms and reading scripture. I think you clean more and we seem to get more dirty😳😳
Do you have anything like Faspa? My ancestors were Mennonite and usually Sunday instead of supper we would have Faspa. Just a light meal with bread, cheese, butter, jam, peanut butter, some sweet baked goodies and coffee.
I notice you all have quite an abundance of food. Was wondering if you ever prepare meals for the poor in the community at various times or if you ever contribute any pantry items to them.
yes we do a lot of times we prepared food on the colony and served it at the local soup kitchen although with covid right now we have not been able to go in and serve them. during the summer months we send a lot of our veggies to them, potatoes for one example get put in massive totes and sent in.
You need tomatio's there from Mexico. And jalapeno, without the seeds , the seeds carry the heat. But the pepper carries the flavor and you need that spice. Cummin. Chilli powder too if you can roast the skin off of your peppers in the oven and get the skin off put every thing in the blender , roast the garlic tomatoes peppers all of them in an oven ! Get the skin off . In a skillet roast the chilli powder cummin and you olive oil. And use a good amount of chilli powder and enough oil to moisten roast everything and be careful . Put in a blender little by little blend everything and add to soup meat what ever your making!
I just love watching your videos, they’re so fun and relaxing. It’s very interesting to learn about your way of life…and all the food looks delicious! Take care and God Bless you.
Giselle what a fantastic video you have put together, I came here from the 1980's film of a Hutterite community, I say community because I don't like the word colony, for me, it has connotations of the colonization from our not-so-distant past. The change between the earlier film and now are breathtaking and hopefully bodes well for the future.

I myself passionate about cooking and food making. Collected huge selection of recipes and articles about food. Gathered big collection of kitchen equipment and tools. Focus on Scottish and Irish cuisines. Thank you for your very beautiful videos.
Sounds absolutely delicious 😋 thankyou for the idea i will definitely try it.😊
Thanks for sharing your days on U-Tube and a little insight to your way of life. Kitchen and recipes truly awesome.
Glad you like them!
Lovely people! God Blessed you!

I've been around your channel for few days and I really enjoy it ! I'm cooking for 2 and I like it but I think I couldn't success to do it for the number you do ! 😅 do you want recipes from France or Middle East? I'm French but cook a lot and I'll try your recipes 😊 may God blesses you
WOW! This is truly another side of what I perceived the Hutterites were like...I subscribed and am looking forward to more videos!
Thank you
Thank you for taking me round the building. Very I interesting to seem.
Missing you today so I am rewatching LOL. :)
😊😊
Oh that is how the ladies clean up the kitchen, oven, etc,so cool, kept me guessing
1:10 those have got to be the biggest zucchinis I've ever seen.
@@gisellewaldner9406 Last time I had chicken feet was at a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco.
This reminds me of boarding school. Feeding 125 girls and 8 matrons took a lot of work, but I loved kitchen duty. I would swap with other girls, cooking rather than cleaning.
You can tell you enjoy life. God blessed you with happiness of heart
Thank you 😊
wow what treat for me, thanks for a excellent video . I was unaware of the hutterite life style .. thanks for your VLOG Joe from California
Im glad you enjoy them 😊
My first time seeing your vlog was a few days ago, and girl, I’m impressed with your great attitude and skills. Don’t know what your situation is , but t I’m sure it will be revealed as time goes in. Where are the older women? PS, you make the milk crate challenge look easy😃. I’ll bet you could show the challengers a thing or 2.
WoW! I've just come across your video!! Thank you soo very much for sharing with us!!!
A review of cookbooks would be interesting.
ohh nice thanks for the idea.
Just found your video… loved it. I love watching ya’ll cook. It gives me some great recipe ideas. I’ll be checking out your channel for more of these kind of videos.
Welcome to the channel 😀
Giselle you run a fine kitchen. My niece is married into the Tschetter family. Excellent job on the you tube video.
Oh thank you!
We cooked this week too. Also got our Christmas goodies. It was a busy week too. But I love cooking so the week just flew by. I love your kitchen.
Busy days make the week just fly by 😊
Hi Giselle, Love your show! I found out on youtube that some Amish people in the US have wonderful general stores open to all and I was wondering if you knew of any Hutterite people in Manitoba that have done anything similar?? Thank-you and God's blessings always.
Oh My I saw her pouring the Water on the Grill and reminded me of when I Worked at McDonald’s and I Cracked a 4’ grill top doing that!
I always love the colony’s in Montana. I used to drive the milk. Now I’m just fedex freight. So I don’t go to the colony’s as much. Always like the people. God bless
God bless you too 😊
This is really interesting! There are some very good taco soup recipes! However, I find the best ones need lots of pan fried beef mince, smoked paprika, garlic and a bit of sugar. Pinterest has some good ones!
Thankyou for the idea 😊
It's definitely a better soup if you season your beef and onions and cook them together. I don't add celery , but instead we use some bell peppers that I cook til they're more browned than soft / smushy. I don't know if you have folks who have to avoid spicy foods, but if not then a good amount of black pepper gives it a nice warm zing.
It is interesting how the hutterites live and work,I am not sure what the ladies are making for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the kitchen is really big,I enjoyed watching the video
What a dream of a kitchen !
Never seen anything like this in any commercial restaurant in Canada !
They usually got just worn out crap from the 70ies
It all looks good to me. Yum yum.

Hey Adina, something on my mind I just have to share: I am a Christ loving wife and devoted mother to 6 children.... I feel very blessed and privileged to take care of my family but at times it can get tiring and Frustration.... so many meals.... so much laundry, it never ends 😅 .... then I just watch one of your videos and it motivates me again to do what the lord wants me to do. Thank you for your videos and his bless you in your work ❤️
did you want to post that comment on a different video perhaps? as that is not my name
Again, thanks.
I think that one of the strengths of your Colony's life is that the girls and women get to build their capability confidence by working with the machinery in the kitchen.
Now that is one nice kitchen indeed and an amazing insight into a way of life that most do not even know exists though would possible benefit from hello from Australia
How old are you Giselle? You are an amazing young lady and stay busy. What I would like to know is if there is a way to buy the blankets you make online. Do you know where they are sold? I would love to have one. Keep the faith and the good work you do. I hope you have plenty of time to rest.
The soup broth is made from chicken bones and veggies 😊...at 17 we start cooking 😊...is it ok if I continue your questions in a vlog?
@@gisellewaldner9406 ... Hi Giselle, yes ... you have my permission to continue my questions in a vlog. :-) 🌷❤️ I'd be honoured, and thank you for responding.
You do a very good job on your videos. I can't help but notice the similarity of the young Catholic nuns living much the same life - those who work in the kitchen.
thank you although I don't know how the nuns do it I've never seen how they do it.
Yes! You're correct but our kitchens aren't as big. Your life is very similar to ours. We have less work time because we meet 6 times a day for prayer, singing the psalms and reading scripture.
I think you clean more and we seem to get more dirty😳😳
You have to put Ranch Dressing powder in the taco soup. I have taco soup in my fridge right now.
Do you?
@@YeshuaKingMessiah The comment was meant to assure others that the Hutterites contribute to helping others in their community as I suspected.
You are lovely, funny, hardworking women...love your channel 💓
Thank you so much!
Everything looks delicious ladies!
Are you cooking for your colony and are you assigned to the kitchen?
we cook for the colony an we take turns doing it for a week.

Thank you for your kindness in replying. Your lifestyle is very peaceful and the envy of us all.
Stay well.
Who creates the menus and who does the food ordering? You have a great-looking kitchen. Reminds me a bit of a small Army mess hall.
Gods paintings are beautiful. Gorgeous night sky
a beautiful sunset…praise be to God
What a beautiful/ wonderful life style. Seeing beautiful young lady's working so hard yet laughing and smiling. I envie you.
Thank you 😊
I just love watching your videos, they’re so fun and relaxing. It’s very interesting to learn about your way of life…and all the food looks delicious! Take care and God Bless you.
Thank you so much ❤️
Amazing work!
Everything looked so good! 🤗
You young ladies are so beautiful and I don’t see any makeup on you. A lot different than what we usually see on RUclips. 👍🏼
awww thank you...yeah make-up is something that is frowned upon we believe in natural beauty. :)
Giselle what a fantastic video you have put together, I came here from the 1980's film of a Hutterite community, I say community because I don't like the word colony, for me, it has connotations of the colonization from our not-so-distant past. The change between the earlier film and now are breathtaking and hopefully bodes well for the future.
yes, the documentaries that are out there are really old ones and its been quite a number of years since a new one has been made. the last on I saw was from the 1990's I believe which Is also quite old.
Extremely interesting hutterite life, more n more videos about all aspects of colony life in all it's detail
👍🙃🙏🏻thx Giselle
I would love to eat at the colony. What an amazing place.
