Just made this- it immediately brought me back to childhood! My neighbor (Auntie Jenn) who used to watch me during the day used to make this ALL the time. Thank you so much for bringing this amazing dish back into my life
I made this today! I left my dried beans soaking while I was at work. I came home and then assembled everything. I didn't have allspice, but I used cinnamon instead. It's a wonderful dinner. Easy but delicious.
Thank you for posting this!! My boyfriend is from Jamaica and I've never cooked with black beans before. Going to try to surprise him with this tonight! :)

thank you for the recipe. i'm going to try to make it. you're right about turmeric. i read it's an anti-inflammatory, and can relieve symptoms of i.b.s.
You are welcome. This rice is very tasty and is nice to make once in a while or occasionally if you like. The turmeric also gives it a nice color. Thanks for watching. Stay safe😷
Oh I love that this is easy sweetie and this would taste amazing. I need to make this for sure, I love beans. 💕💕💕 I love that pot you're using on the stove top, wished I had one of those.
hello! I see that you use 1 cup of rice but can you tell me how much water did you added? Also, did you cook it without the lid on a low fire? thanks in advance
For starters I added 2 cups of rice. You may need to add more until the rice is cooked. I cooked the rice without covering the pot. When the rice is almost cooked, low down the fire.
Can you please tell me what kind of oil you use? Is it vegetable oil? Canola oil? Olive oil? Coconut oil? Peanut oil? Just saying “oil” doesn’t explain much!! I tried combining my black beans and rice into same pan with olive oil and it burnt my rice 😞
Oh my goodness I am sorry to know that your first attempt at this recipe did not taste good. I hope next time around it will be super delicious! Please let me know what you think!!!
I just put some of the rice in a small bowl, press it down a bit. Put the plate over it and turn it over. The rice comes out easily and in that round shape. It's quite fun to do.

How do you get it to shape on a plate like that?
I just put some of the rice in a small bowl, press it down a bit. Put the plate over it and turn it over. The rice comes out easily and in that round shape. It's quite fun to do.
@@WhaToCook oh! Ok i was just confused at first because i seen rice like that at a Dominican Republic (not Dominica) restaurant it was just weird to me as how do they get it shaped like that on the plate (lol)
Put it in a bowl let it sit then turn it upside down
You left the pot uncovered throughout the whole process?
