    A tip for anyone fitting a removable handrail into a slot “telescoping”, with round tube or square tube always tape your ends until they fit snug into the tube, then fit your slots with the handrail still inside the tubes onto the stringer for your stairs and either bolt or weld, take your handrail out of the slots and remove the tape, as long as the hand rail was built square, it will always just drop into the slots and always slide out of the slots with out a hassle. A perfect example is using 1 1/2” ID sch40 pipe for the slots, then making the hand rails with 1 1/4” OD round tube, leaving you around 1/8” or around 3mm tolerance around tube tube when centred, using the tape helps get that perfect fit on all sides of the of the tube and the the pipe. And remember to put a chamfer on the inside of the pipe and remove any burrs on your tube, this will allow the hand rail to “find” the slots and just drop right in.

      @eksine 4 года назад +1

      next time just cut off a new end, they use fast shitty cuts. use your own cut off saw, dont waste time filing, use your head

    • @MrMopar413
      @MrMopar413 4 года назад +4

      eksine I do use my head . I do this a lot and the big problem as he talked about is the inside weld seem that had to be ground out to allow for telescoping and to test fit the desired materials to be used. Because what he talked about in ID and OD and wall thickness it’s hard to find materials of a exact fit. All I was doing is conferring what he said. I’ve been working with steels for 50 years so I know the up’s and downs

    I was looking for the required difference in the OD of the inner tube, and the ID of the outer tube.
    In the video, you say that should be .010". but, the graphic you show indicates .010" between the two tubes (which would be a IDouter - ODinner of twice that--.020".
    Which is approriate?

    Yeah, how about as a manufacturer you provide ID (and OD) width and radius dims? And get all your MFG buddies to do the same? Or make some with the inner weld removed?
    OR best, how about if you PRODUCE specifically engineered, REASONABLY PRICED, purpose built telescoping square tube? There is a HUGE market for it.

      Been making portable tower's on many occasions and use several guides, internal and external NEVER had one jam and can be made is 2 to 3 days depending on the Height required.
      the extruded seam weld is NOT a problem but in some instances can be a weak point.
      Got me stuffed what toob is It is T U B E .
      Now as for antennae I have made several HF Antennae that are portable because everything is telescopic , Boom, Elements and Tower.

    Thinking of building either a tilt over or easily extended and retracted telescoping ham radio antenna mast of approximately 20m/60' length (perhaps slightly less). I'll be knocking on the door of the local MS shop and hopefully I find the helpful staff you speak of. Wondering about the weight I'd be pushing up and locking in place at each max extension point with a 20lb antenna system at top or even if that is possible without mechanical assistance. I'll work it out I guess.

    "Diameter" refers to circles and spheres, not to squares and rectangular tubing. Wikipedia: "In geometry, a diameter of a circle is any straight line segment that passes through the center of the circle and whose endpoints lie on the circle. It can also be defined as the longest chord of the circle. Both definitions are also valid for the diameter of a sphere."
