Shiv is one of my favorite female characters ever in TV. I love how flawed & complex she is while also having slithers of humanity. She tends to get shit on a lot more than the other characters who act like/does the same shit as her & we all know that stems from sexism. I’m glad she wasn’t written to be a perfect damsel. I love her so much but she also pisses me off. It’s incredible. If Shiv has no fans then i’m dead.

Same, I don't see a lot of characters like her and I'll miss her a lot.

Colin gave him Advil and was asking him if he wanted Tylenol. I don't think Colin knew about the UTI and thought he just had a headache or something. Only Kerry seemed to know about the UTI and that he had his pills with him for it.

Yeah, in retrospect that makes the most sense. I guess Colin's phrasing just threw me off a bit.

One of the funniest episodes of the series! The Piss-Mad Bear !
On a downer note , Logan’s dementia is almost too real. My grandmother on my dad’s side goes in & out, so the depiction is accurate.

Also goes to show the lack of general knowledge and common sense that they all have lol
And agreed yeah, I've had several family members who suffered from alzheimers and it never got easier. My condolences go out for you and your family as well

The episode that Logan calls Tom "son" 👀
Especially after Tom suggested being a sacrificial lamb (I know Logan is out of it btw, not feeling good and all)

I respect Brian Cox as an actor. I mean, of course I do, hes amazing. But whenever he talks in these little clips about Logan and how he sees his kids and all that, it feels to me like hes projecting his own feelings on his character. That, or I just fundamentally misread Logan and hes actually a goody two shoes.
Gregs "Hes so annoying" is fantastic. When the most annoying character in the show calls someone else out like this, maybe that someone just isnt Kenough right now.

i think brian cox is right that logan loves his kids, but to logan, love actually means very little in the grand scheme of things. but also i think brian cox was filming these while he was still playing the character and while he pooh-poohs jeremy strong's method acting process it does come across to me like when he's talking about logan he has to apply his logic to these situations and can't be super objective about it. but also i definitely agree with you that there's an element of him trying too hard to defend logan, maybe because he's simply too close to the character. like, how do you play someone like that as a fully rounded human if you can't defend their actions like at all? these interviews are so interesting, i'm always really fascinated by what brian cox says about logan for exactly the reasons you've said.

I always take those interviews with Brian Cox as almost an insight into how Logan justifies his actions internally, because I'm sure Brian has to do that work in order to understand how to play the scene, otherwise Logan becomes a moustache twirling evil caricature.
It just comes across as a little jarring, because Logan is someone who, if he does the emotional work of explaining himself at all, only does so in retrospect and only to justify his actions in a way that paints him in a positive light.

I definitely think he's explaining Logan's internal logic during these, and the others are as well. It makes it fun to see how they all genuinely present these events differently according to their character's feelings. I agree that Logan loves his kids, I just think he does so very badly. Having Logan's attention on you basically ensures some level of abuse, and that's what his kids are all fighting for. Cox's bit about owning who you are is somewhat true, tbh -- like, everyone has their reasons, but once they hit mid 30s/40s, we start expecting accountability from them regardless, just out of practicality's sake. But it's also super in line with Logan's own thinking. He's such a "pull yourself up by bootstraps" kind of guy, who's struggled and scrapped to success in a harsh world, and became obsessed with that. He's embraced the meanness of the world. The world snarled at him, never took care of him (he thinks), yet he figured out how to win anyway. Sure, he snarls at his kids, but he has taken care of them (he thinks, and which also makes him jealous), and so why can't they win?
He's dominated the world, and then he dominated his kids, and he doesn't like that they let him. He's waiting for them to kick him, but he won't be fully satisfied either way, bc losing to anyone threatens his security. And in his mind, in this world, there is no cooperation, no equal partners, no mutual wins. It's a cold, zero sum game they're playing, and every winner requires a loser. For him, winning is survival, so he must win. But for his kids to not be eaten and also to be worthy, they must also win. So it's inevitably gonna be a disaster. His worldview is so uncharitable, I think it's natural it bleeds over into every facet of his life and sort of poisons it.

A lot of actors, when talking about their character, talk from the character's POV. They try to find things to connect and justify, they can't just hate the character they are playing. In fact, they, as an actor playing the character, see the reasoning by their character as the “right” one. It says nothing about actor's personality, tho. That's why a lot of actors who play “villains” don't see them as “villains”.
Just watch any Charles Dance interview about Tywin Lannister, although he isn't THE villain. He literally says “well, it is a ruthless society he lived in” and all that, he literally speaks from POV of “Tywin was right and justified” and all that.
