    This is bulls$%t. The husband should step up and tell his mom 'No. Thats my wife an if you can't respect the other half of me; you arent welcome around ANY of my family.' Drop the mic and walk away. If he wont do that; THERE is the problem.

      Son has been raised and conditioned to do whatever his narcissist mom wanted. Otherwise he was reprimanded and treat like he was horrible…everyday & every way until he got in line! So he marrys and he doesn’t understand why his wife doesn’t do whatever mom says!!! Wife has grown up a well adjusted person and sees MIL for the narcissist she is. MIL will do anything (vacation without wife) to get back at her for not seeing how wonderful her (MIL) ideas are .. Husband really doesn’t see what’s happening! Been there! So sad

    The last story: as someone who once upon a time spent many years in customer service, with a majority of it as a server, I can definitely attest that there are managers like this. I also had to serve a 10 top that came in late right before we closed. They were rude, demanding, pushy and they left a very insulting tip. Not only that, the manager gave me grief for leaving late after she forced me to take the table. I told her as much. I also told her to never make me close again if she was going to be so damn rude to me. I haven't worked for the company in years, but I still remember that tyrant of a manager. It's some consolation that I heard through the grapevine, that the Dolores Umbridge knockoff finally got fired. Good riddance.

    Story 1: The OP is absolutely not a jerk here, but the MIL and husband sure are. Its pretty obvious how the MIL feels here, but the fact that the husband is thinking the OP, his wife, is a jerk for saying that the MIL doesn't like her is total crap. He should be standing up for the OP, not belittling her. I think this shows how much he cares about his family in the long run here.
    Story 2: Seriously, Jane is a complete jerk and drama queen.... and i'm honestly surprised she's even working there. She is 100% making a hostile work environment to the OP and probably other people as well. Malicious compliance, if you can really call it that, was pretty good, but i would be constantly going to the higher ups against her, or maybe even the labour board... and whats up with all the bible verses? This is all just unacceptable.
    Story 3: Accidents and mistakes happen. The bf shouldve made damn sure he had transport and his house keys, and the OP should've had the phone on vibrate or something. I think the bf should just cool off and move on.
    Story 4: I'll say my favorite 4 words here again "Right To Refuse Service!!!". You're already closed too. The manager here is a complete dullard and should've been the one dealing with this stupid entitled family, not the OP. The moment you're closed, you shouldve locked the doors so that no one else can get in. Being a professional cook over the last 20 years, i can tell you that cooks especially absolutely hate both customers and managers like this. Stuff like this is exactly why its hard to keep restaurant staff. Hopefully that family never comes back or got banned for all this.

      Talk about crazy. I don't get why the in-laws don't like them. Sure they're Christian and she's not, so what? I don't get why OP's husband calls her a jerk for protesting their treatment. They're the jerks, not OP. They don't have to agree with her non-belief in God or in whatever religious deity, but to belittle her for that, that's so not okay.

    The kids are 8 and have already picked up that their mom isn't excited about the trip. That means they assumed she was going too, which is why they didn't understand why she wasn't excited. If OP hadn't said anything, what happens when it's time to go and she isn't with them? They were going to see that their mom isn't coming and that's why she wasn't excited about the trip, and would likely ask questions. OP just gave them the truth before dad and grandma could make up some lies. That's what the dad is really mad about. The truth came out. He can't continue enabling his mother's behavior because the kids know the truth now and will call them out on it.

      In that situation, after seeing the mess they made, I probably would have told the woman after she said "looks like you'll have have a time cleaning this up" I would have been like, "actually no, see you're about to teach my manager a lesson, because i'm going to quit and he's going to have to clean up after you, so maybe he'll learn not to let people in after closing."
      Then go to the manager and tell him "Hey, you'll be cleaning up after that family tonight, because if you don't then i'm going to quit and you'll have to do it anyway."

    first story: Op could have lied her ass off but children aren't stupid. They always see what adults try to hide, let alone the horrible stuff they do openly. I had a very close relationship with my grandmother at that age, but I have lost almost all respect over the years as I saw the true way my mother's family treats her as the servant for the rest of their selfish asses. The mil is ruining that relationship all by herself. And the husband's just useless.

    Last Story: I’ve worked at businesses where we’ve had entitled customers barging in after closing (or trying to). That’s why we had to just lock the doors ten to twenty minutes BEFORE actual closing times and turn the “Closed” sign around. We do this because it takes about ten to twenty minutes to lock up and shut down everything for the night (close/lock the security shutters, move the money from the registers to the drop safes, turn off the lights, clock out, set the burglar alarm, lock the employee entrance doors).
    We have had people shaking the doors, pounding on the doors, yelling, swearing at us, or even being so obnoxious as to open the mail slot and shout “HEL-LOOOO? I see you in there!” or they breathe on the glass and write “Hi!” to annoy us.

      @apensalesman Год назад +2

      I've had this so much when I worked in retail at the mall. We'd pre-count the registers to close them, start to lower the gate a little 5 to 10 min before closing and as soon as time hit, close and lock that sucker. And 5 to 20 minutes later families would show up at the gate asking why we closed at our scheduled time and how they were supposed to know we'd do that.

    Yes the Mother in Law is a bad person and that has no excuse BUT blaming the father is such a disgusting stance to take. He told her what the MIL wanted to do and even tho OP said "Its okay I know the kids will love it" he knew she wasnt and TRIED to get the MIL to reconsider and the mother still said "stop" which he did. BUT THEN she throws it into the kids face to actually feel guilty for being happy, excited an looking forward to the trip. That is behavior from a disgraceful parent.
