I'm Canadian. When I was in maybe 10th or 11th grade (I think equivalent to high school sophomore or junior), my best friend and I saw the videos online of the KFC Double Down. Obviously they weren't available in Canada (at the time), but we REALLLLY wanted that monstrosity. So my buddy and I managed to convince my mom to drive us down to Buffalo NY from Toronto for "cross border shopping", and we specifically looked online to find an outlet mall that had a KFC in it. On the actual day of our pilgrimage, neither of us ate breakfast to prepare ourselves for the feast. It was about a 3hr drive down to Buffalo, and by the time we got there we were already starving. We fucked around and window "shopped" at the mall for a bit, but neither of us were really paying attention to the stores. We then pretended to just "notice" there was a KFC there, and went to "grab a light meal". We ordered 3 Double Downs, a large drink and a large fries EACH (we were physically active teenagers and could actually burn a lot of calories). Little did our little Canadian dumb asses know, the American Large soda cup is ACTUALLY the Canadian EXTRA Large, and when we got our orders, our eyes almost popped out of our heads. Neither of us even touched our fries after getting a sodium overdose from the Double Downs, let alone the drinks. However, we were too stubborn to throw out the fries and the drinks. We couldn't even fit the cups into the cup holders in my mom's minivan because the cups were so fucking big, so we had to hold the cups in our hands the whole car ride back. After we got home, we just crashed and had a food coma for 3hrs. Still one of my favourite memories from high school. Double Downs will always have a special place in my heart (specifically, in the arteries).

@@bare_bear_handsthat’s actually partially true, I remember seeing a video on how using oils made people generally live less long, but I think it’s also because people have been eating way too much sugar and saturated fats from cookies, fast food, etc and thats probably why so many Americans are obese
@@bare_bear_hands Correlation doesn't mean causality. That being said, fried oils are trash (no matter the source), but other oils are probably the only type of fat that's good for health.
Stuff like this definitely reminds me that menu's DEFINITELY differ depending on where in the world you are, some examples I can give being that I was real surprised seeing that a KFC in Singapore had Potato wedges rather than chips, or that some KFC's in other parts of the world sell cookies/cakes/corn as snacks/sides. Seeing people react over something like this thinking it's crazy makes me think about the Zinger Stacker that we have here. 2 slices of cheese, 2 Zinger Fillets, and a mix of Chilli relish and supercharger sauce all between 2 buns. It was the worst thing to try to wrap as I'd worked there previously but would also be what I'd eat when I didn't just want wings or a wrap.
Not only is it different, the quality of the meat differs also due to differing regulations. Europe has the best quality and sauces, imo. Southeast Asia has better quality than here in the US for some chains. The US has the worst quality in terms of meat. And the sauces here are too basic sometimes.
I was truly shocked when I saw a 7-11 in Denmark with a ton of fresh local pastries, real fresh brewed coffees and lattes, clean lol. Vs. your average 7-11 in Denver with 12 hr old burnt coffee, stale Krispy Kreme, big gulps and homeless pissing on the sidewalk out front.
@@TacticalDimples I did look up what a menu in KFC would look like in the US and apparently there's option to choose between light and dark meats? that was definitely a new one to me. I was also surprised to not find any of the twisters listed (Wraps, they might have just been missed in all honesty) as in Australian chains we have about 5-6 different variations of the wraps, not including the mini snack sized ones.
I have diabetes and my doctor ordered to go on a diet and only consume less than 2000 kcal per day. Me who have no idea how to check calories on food went to the internet and found out that fast food joints actually shows the calorie count of their food. So for almost a year, I literally went on a diet by eating nothing but fast food and just making sure that my daily consumption is less than 2000 kcal. Believe or not it actually worked; I'm now two sizes smaller, my blood sugar went down and even both my creatinine and uric acid went down as well. This week my doctor ordered for me to stop taking my maintenance meds altogether and for me to keep monitoring my blood sugar, if all goes well then she will permanently stop my medication. So yeah, I became healthy by eating unhealthy.
That is not healthy cause the problem woth fast food, especially America is heart complications and not sugar lvls per se. Long term that will bite you in the ass. Most deaths by diabetes is cause of heart problems and diabetes as you know is a progressive disease so even if it seems under control now it will only get worse with the years even with good diet and excersie each day. Your life expectancy is lower by default now and you do not wanna use fast food as a supplement to a balanced diet and tht rings more true of you are eating at american fast food restaurants.
I'm not surprised. Eating out at a place with consistent portions and ingredients and provides nutrition information on every item makes it easier to count calories and other nutrients. When cooking at home, you have to count the nutrients in every component of every meal. Unless you keep a spreadsheet, that would be very difficult. I'm happy for you! Another metric I refer to when looking at nutrition information is daily percentage values. Specifically for sugar and sodium. A serving of chips for example might be 10 to 12 percent of your recommended daily sodium. Keeping sodium and sugar in moderation is good for you too!
I remember KFC having a health food commercial during the whole atkins craze. It was some guy by his car, eating a bucket of chicken, and his friend walks up to him and is all like "damn, you lost weight! what have you been doing?" and the guy is like "eating chicken" then his friend is like "no, i meant what have you been doing to lose weight", and the guy repeats "eating chicken", then it goes to announcer talking about how much protein KFC chicken has and how itll make you lose weight since it high protein/Low Cal
in a way i kinda wonder why its such a huge deal, especially if the bread was a bit thinner, bread is also thought of as unhealthy, and regular sandwhiches have 2 pieces of that and bread, although im sure the double down is really fatty becuase its fried, its still 2 pieces of protein vs more bread and the protein, the bacon makes it tip over the scale tho
If you separated the contents of the sandwich it's just 2 chicken cutlets and some bacon and cheese. Something someone really hungry could easily eat without any controversy. It's heavy, but nothing groundbreaking calorie-wise. I think the main issue is that people have no self-control. Nothing happens if you indulge in this once a month, or hell even once a week for that matter. But if you scoff this down everyday for the week, of course it's gonna have a negative health impact. It's just wild how people try to blame fast food companies for making them fat when they themselves are to blame. If KFC didnt have this sandwich, what are the chances Joe McFatface has a salad instead? I'm not saying the fast food chains are blameless entities. They do typical corporate bullshit like trying to push responsibilities to consumers for their environmental impacts. But trying to pin their unhealthy life choices on a company is like telling a jury the knife company is responsible for you stabbing someone.
I mean yeah you are right, however companies also market and if they actively try to get people in their stores knowing that their guests are killing themselves I'd say they also hold some responsibility. But yeah if you compare how Europeans treat fast food and how Americans treat fast food you see the biggest difference, Americans treat fast food as a place you go to eat regularly, but in Europe(at least from my experience) we treat it as some place you go sometimes, if you are in a rush, or it's late and you are hungry.
It really says a lot about the health consciousness of Americans when you remove the buns from a chicken sandwich and everyone loses their minds about how it's so unhealthy now lmao. It's literally less unhealthy than it would be if it had buns on it.
"I've never seen a KFC health food commercial." Didn't they have grilled chicken for a while that they marketed as a healthier option to the fried chicken?
The conspiracy side of my brain makes me thing that this whole "omg this crazy limited edition sandwich is so unhealthy" situation is just to make it seem like the rest of the food they sell is something that is perfectly fine to be eating
Agree I think the "unhealthy" or "heart stopping" part is just exaggeration. I mean if you put it between two buns it's basically double chicken sandwich.
You might be onto something. Often restaurants put stuff on the menu not because they expect lots of people to order that, but to make people feel better about eating there, e.g. "McDonalds has a salad, so it's not all bad food" (proceed to not order the salad). Maybe the "super unhealthy option" is indeed there to make the other stuff seem more reasonable.
This sammich is a lifesaver! I have severe gastrointestinal issues that prevent me from eating most of the day. The ability to slam a full 2k calories in one pretty compact meal is amazing. Also doesn't taste half-bad either, just need a couple tums for the grease.
I've had one of these when I was young man. I was hyped to try it to say the least. It did not let down. One of the best bites to a sandwich/burger I've ever taken.
Man I remember this coming out when I was a freshman in highschool, I never felt so drained and sick to my stomach after eating a fast food item then when I ate a double down.... But man was it delicious 😬
I have never wanted a double down more than I do now. As I am watching this I am wondering how I went to KFC at least a dozen times in the last few years and never got one.... Also I love that the entire premise of how unhealthy the "double down" is based on the fact that replacing bread with fried chicken is really that bad. As if you are missing all the vital nutrients from a bun. Plenty of people eat fried chicken in a bun, and no one complains then...
To be honest, the bun is probably a whole lot worst for your heart than the chicken strips. In 1980, Ansel Keyes (American epidemiologist and statistician) published the Seven Countries Study. TLDR, it basically said that high dietary fat consumption lead to higher rates of heart disease, and recommended eating grains, which the AMA (American Medical Association) and the AhA (American Heart Association), and the US department of Agriculture, among others, embraced. 30 years after this study, with increased grain consumption, the metabolic syndrome has increased by 26%. (Metabolic Syndrome increases your chance of type 2 Diabetes and heart disease).
@@bbdest3082yeah that original study did not take into account the effects of sugar on heart disease. Not too long ago Subway’s buns could not even be called “bread” in the UK because they contained too much sugar according to their definition.
So this came to Nigeria this year and I haven’t had it yet but it looks like something I’d try once a month. Every time I stare at it I feel little tickle round my heart and breath in deep but When I get ill just put bread on top of it with a side of apple slices with grean tea
Don't put bread, the bread will add far far worse to the macros and nutrients than it is now, actually.. Nigeria might have non cake bread basically, cause that's how much sugar and how many carbs our bread has
While the double down was kind of crazy, even the 'healthy' fast food options typically aren't actually healthy. They tend to just trade fat for sodium which is arguably worse for you.
Sodium is a red herring for sugar and easily oxidized vegetable oils like canola oil. Not all fats are bad for you, just most of the ones you find at a typical fast food place
We got these in Canada, So I would get the double down, with poutine and a soda. I did this for a week every lunch hour haha. I was working 12 hour days for 6 days a week so it was all the protein you needed for the day
I remember these because the receipt you got after order from my KFC while these was on the menu had a coupon for a free double down. So i would order a double down and get a free double down every time. It was amazing!

I had one of those on my 18th birthday after I got my first bong. Had Mcdonalds, KFC, then Supremes roast beef all before work. Yes I threw up. No I do not regret it.
So it's basically a double chicken sandwich, just without the bread. If they put buns on it it would be objectively even less healthy, but nobody would have batted an eye.
Used to get Double Downs 2 or 3 times a year. You can get them with grilled breast pieces instead of fried/breaded pieces, but it actually makes the thing near impossible to eat cause the cheese melts and the bacon slides around and tries to squirt out from between the chicken.
Less carbs and more protein at least lol, in the uk we had some half hearted health attempts like claiming the skin on fries were healthier, here in the uk tho we had a limited time fries box that was just fries and secret spices thing was amazing but very limited
the KFC where i live closed earlier this year....the huge bucket outside stopped spinning like 15 years ago and it was getting yellower every year...i thought it was a good thing since it now showed how greasy it actually is :P
I only ever had 2 and a bite of the original double downs. The first time I was kind of excited. Went to KFC/Taco Bell with my girlfriend and it was a great first bite. I got up to get my girlfriends order and came back to a double down that she claimed. Lol I got stuck with a chicken quesadilla 😢😂
I don't visit KFC, but I ordered a Double Down after watching this video. I just picked it up from the store, and it has 2 pieces of bread and 1 piece of chicken. I think the store got my order wrong. I went online to see how to resolve this situation, but according to the internet, that's how pick-up orders work at KFC, you flip a coin and you may or may not get what you ordered.
Are you kidding me? It's just a full meal, eat it in the middle of the day with some salad and you're good to go until late diner. I've been eating mostly meat, potatoes, fish, etc. all my life and still lack proper weight.

The nyama nyama burger was 2 chicken paddies instead of buns, 2 slices of cheese, and a hashbrown center. Ironically, it was actually pretty good. As it was in Kenya, the chicken was quite meaty but not greasy, not as healthy as a real meal, but it was great

Funny thing about McDonald's super size. The supers became large. Large became medium and medium became small. McDonald's gotten worse health wise, they just got rid of the negative super size name.
There was also a “Triple Down” which was limited to a very small amount of stores through the secret menu in Australia. Was essentially three patties with cheese, sauce and bacon in between. I think is was a trial option but I don’t think it did to well.
In this sandwiches defense they had grilled chicken back then which made this a quick low carb option at a time when most places had zero low carb options.

Boy that sounds like heaven. Also, everyone who still believes that lie 😂the epidemic of obesity and heart attacks came exactly after people were misled into using "oils" instead of pork fat.
Check out heart attack grill in Las Vegas. They have burgers called triple and quadruple bypass. Waitresses are dressed up as nurses and the manager as a doctor. If you don't eat all your food there is a dwarf who spanks your butt in front of everyone
That spanish influence really got latin americans and filipinos sharing lots of food huh.
@@mrs.h2725 7-11 in Thailand sells ready to eat half-boiled eggs at like a fraction of a USD. Nutritious and healthy instant breakfast right there.
Your diet is full of seed oils which destroy the mitochondria and cause insulin resistance.
1:17 chicken is better for you than bread
Not if it’s fried and breaded with a bunch of crap
I’ve been trying to explain how good this was to people for years. Brings a smile to my face that’s it back.
in a way i kinda wonder why its such a huge deal, especially if the bread was a bit thinner, bread is also thought of as unhealthy, and regular sandwhiches have 2 pieces of that and bread, although im sure the double down is really fatty becuase its fried, its still 2 pieces of protein vs more bread and the protein, the bacon makes it tip over the scale tho
and usually, when you go to kfc, you likely eat 2 pieces of chicken, as well as the mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, potato wedges ect
@@a.o.skurtt bro wtf. We just got chicken here. Mash potatoes and gravy yeah but Mac and cheese??
They just announced the Double Down is back at the Streamer awards
"I've never seen a KFC health food commercial."
Didn't they have grilled chicken for a while that they marketed as a healthier option to the fried chicken?
The double down is by far the best sandwich in history
The conspiracy side of my brain makes me thing that this whole "omg this crazy limited edition sandwich is so unhealthy" situation is just to make it seem like the rest of the food they sell is something that is perfectly fine to be eating
Agree I think the "unhealthy" or "heart stopping" part is just exaggeration. I mean if you put it between two buns it's basically double chicken sandwich.
@@kevinnosaurus793 yeah that’s quite literally what it is but people freak out because it doesn’t have buns.
You might be onto something. Often restaurants put stuff on the menu not because they expect lots of people to order that, but to make people feel better about eating there, e.g. "McDonalds has a salad, so it's not all bad food" (proceed to not order the salad).
Maybe the "super unhealthy option" is indeed there to make the other stuff seem more reasonable.
no mention of the GRILLED double down, that thing slapped and healthier than the deep fried.
This sammich is a lifesaver! I have severe gastrointestinal issues that prevent me from eating most of the day. The ability to slam a full 2k calories in one pretty compact meal is amazing. Also doesn't taste half-bad either, just need a couple tums for the grease.
I was working at KFC during the original run of the Double Down, and I can say from experience, this thing SOLD.
Honestly naming a cookbook "This is why you're fat" is pretty great, I want to buy that cookbook.
This is my favorite sandwich. It was way bigger this time and not as good as the original, but it still slapped
But man was it delicious 😬
no one foresaw the triple down
I have never wanted a double down more than I do now.
@@bbdest3082 yup, grains suck. try eating fatty meat and no carbs for a few months and watch how much weight you lose
@@bbdest3082yeah that original study did not take into account the effects of sugar on heart disease.
Not too long ago Subway’s buns could not even be called “bread” in the UK because they contained too much sugar according to their definition.
funniest part is that if you call it a chicken cordon blue all of a sudden its fancy and not weird

So this came to Nigeria this year and I haven’t had it yet but it looks like something I’d try once a month. Every time I stare at it I feel little tickle round my heart and breath in deep but When I get ill just put bread on top of it with a side of apple slices with grean tea
That tingle is your heart getting ready to give up the second you try that sandwich.

Don't put bread, the bread will add far far worse to the macros and nutrients than it is now, actually.. Nigeria might have non cake bread basically, cause that's how much sugar and how many carbs our bread has

"OMG A DOUBLE DOWN?!"

Im a 98kg gymbro and I can confirm that a doubledown(in europe at least) has enough protein for a meal if you are on the go.
While the double down was kind of crazy, even the 'healthy' fast food options typically aren't actually healthy. They tend to just trade fat for sodium which is arguably worse for you.
Neither fat nor sodium are bad for you.
@@TatTvaum ..... in moderation. Excessive fat and sodium (and add in sugar) is what leads to a nation with an obesity rate of 41%

We got these in Canada, So I would get the double down, with poutine and a soda. I did this for a week every lunch hour haha. I was working 12 hour days for 6 days a week so it was all the protein you needed for the day
in the words of a certain 33 year old office worker "sheer heart attack has no weaknesses"
the double down really isnt too far from a chicken and ham parma, just with extra chicken
(and chicken parmas are fucking amazing, probs better than a double down but ive never had one)
Almost any default subway footlong contains 2x the calories as a double down and half the protein with just as much if not more sodium.
My most fav sandwich ever made at KFC. Would eat it once in a while though. I couldnt run though it every day.
I remember these because the receipt you got after order from my KFC while these was on the menu had a coupon for a free double down. So i would order a double down and get a free double down every time. It was amazing!
This dude has the voice of what I imagine Lex Luthor's voice would have been.
he sounds like what a Saturday cartoon would have an announcer for a event inside the cartoon, which in its self sounds like a 1950s tech of tomorrow narrator

Your reaction videos are some of my favorite. Thanks man
I had one of those on my 18th birthday after I got my first bong. Had Mcdonalds, KFC, then Supremes roast beef all before work.
Yes I threw up.
No I do not regret it.
Asmongold would love taking a look at the heart attack grill. You get weighed and if your over 350 pounds you eat for free.
The way he says "oh my gawwd" never gets old
So it's basically a double chicken sandwich, just without the bread. If they put buns on it it would be objectively even less healthy, but nobody would have batted an eye.
Thing was 600 calorie with 54 grams of protein. That's as good as it gets for fast food macros.
Asmon finding my Weird History, my favorite time waster channel, is going to be so great.
History always has surprises.
Used to get Double Downs 2 or 3 times a year. You can get them with grilled breast pieces instead of fried/breaded pieces, but it actually makes the thing near impossible to eat cause the cheese melts and the bacon slides around and tries to squirt out from between the chicken.
Keep it inside the paper wrap while u eat and push against the back of the sandwich when you bite and it won’t move
Getting KFC ads show up in the middle of this vid is a little bit funny😂
Less carbs and more protein at least lol, in the uk we had some half hearted health attempts like claiming the skin on fries were healthier, here in the uk tho we had a limited time fries box that was just fries and secret spices thing was amazing but very limited
the KFC where i live closed earlier this year....the huge bucket outside stopped spinning like 15 years ago and it was getting yellower every year...i thought it was a good thing since it now showed how greasy it actually is :P
I loved the double down. It was just a bit too messy imo but other than that it was great
Chicken is healthier than the bread 😂
But is breaded chicken deep fried in 5 gallons of oil healthier than chicken? 😅
@@biggusy25 According to anyone doing Keto, yes 🤣
Its the bread that's stopping people's hearts, not the meat or cheese.

You call or go back to the store like a normal person.

The best part of the double down sandwich is nobody is being forced to eat them. You'll allowed to not eat them if you don't want to
The nyama nyama burger was 2 chicken paddies instead of buns, 2 slices of cheese, and a hashbrown center. Ironically, it was actually pretty good. As it was in Kenya, the chicken was quite meaty but not greasy, not as healthy as a real meal, but it was great

The double down can't be a killer sandwich if you don't die.
