    DO NOT waste your time taking your pump or spa apart. I have a quick simple 30 Second fix for the Intex PureSpa E90 Error.
    TLDR; Change out the filter!
    (Will that fix every single PureSpa with that issue? The short answer is NO. BUT with the feedback that I have gotten, it has helped and fixed many)
    If you don't want to keep replacing the filters (@ Just over $2.50 a filter) you can also take your kitchen spray hose and clean them out as well, not exactly recommended, but it will work in a pinch.
    The Intex PureSpa is the best way to have your very own hot tub or spa without breaking the bank. The spa is inflatable so it is portable as well as extremely easy to install. It contains 120 high power water jets, a puncture-resistant 3-ply laminate outer layer

    Hi Jason - thanks so much for the reminder to change filters. I'm going to add a link to this video to the notes in my video on replacing the impeller, if that's okay. The E90 error results from poor water flow, and dirty filters are one reason. Unfortunately replacing filters won't fix a broken impeller, which happen to at least some Intex spas which are older than a year. (The impeller break is probably accelerated by the pump working harder with clogged filters, but the root cause is a manufacturing defect.)

    The second intake hole labeled “c” is to prevent the pump from having too much suction at one intake. Filter systems with only one intake have sucked in a swimmer’s hair and drowned them. Similarly, a pool with a bottom drain must have two for the same reason.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад +1

      I just figured out that on my own just yesterday actually. The company told me when I called them that it does nothing. But when I took the garden hose to the intake tube, water was coming out of that side 'C' hole. So yes they are all connected and it is 'functional' / 'useful'. I never would have known or bothered testing that since the company said it does nothing. Thanks for posting that info as well. :D

    • @jliang77

      Jason Smith how do you use the hose method? Is there a video for it?

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад

      @@jliang77 According to the company the second filter does not do anything at all. If you take the pump off and take the filters off and put a hose on the 'pipes' on the outside that the pump attached to, water will come out of that spot on the inside of the hot tub. But in normal functions that second one does nothing at all.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад

      @@jliang77 I don't have a video for that. I just would hold my hand over the hole when the filter is off to try and flush the air out of the pump. Others and the company say you can just put a hose at the front of the internal hole and force water into the pump to flush it out. I never had to try that method, so I don't know if or how it works. I would assume it works similar to just using your hand.

  • @robertfaulkner7152
    @robertfaulkner7152 4 года назад +7

    The "C" where your single filter is, is for the spa light...it holds the spa light...it just simply screws in.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад +1

      That is correct, but I was also told by Intex when I called them, that a filter can or "Is supposed to go there because of regulations" But in fact it does nothing there, it does not filter anything. But because of regulations they are required to tell you to put a filter in that spot. So yes, since it does nothing having a filter there, a spa light would work just fine.

    • @robertfaulkner7152
      @robertfaulkner7152 4 года назад

      @@SmittySahn That is strange that it does nothing because when I read the manual last night it mentioned to put the filter in the spot C's. Where it's supposedly is operational. I just figured they go on top of one another. Hmmm bizarre?

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад +1

      @@robertfaulkner7152 Yeah I initially put them stacked on the side by the pump. Then when I called Intex to ask a couple questions they told me to put them both on the bottom apart from each other. I put my hand on there and told them there was no suction at all on the other 'C' spot. That's when the guy told me that it does nothing over there. They were just required by law to put a second 'filter' spot over there, even though it does nothing. Dumb I know, and I didn't care enough to even question it, but that's what he told me.

    I just changed my filter and the e90 still happened, I checked the rod for the intake motor and that was in tact I put everything back together. If I run it without the filter near the pump I do not get the E90 error. It’s like the motor is not powerful enough to pull water through through the filter.
    Follow up: The original filter from Intex was very dirty, so I replaced with one suggested from a local pool store. It was not the Intex brand. I realized the filter material was very different and not as porous. The water could not get through it. I took the original filter from the other side, away from the motor, and cleaned it really well with a garden hose. I reinstalled and now it’s working fine. I have ordered eight new OEM Intex filters.

      Dan, this should be an easy fix, I had this happen a few times. Yes it can be a little tricky and just takes a little patience. I'm not 100% sure of the issue but I think it is just air in the line is all. What I would do to fix this was take off the filter completely. (from the bottom hole). Then turn it on and make sure the heat it turned on so it is pumping. Then hold your hand over the intake (bottom one, where the filter was) for about 5~10 seconds then release. Basically letting it pump water out and then sucking a bunch in when you remove your hand. I do this at least twice if not three times. Basically trying to just get any air out of the line. Once you've done that a few times just let it run. All the bubbles should stop coming out of the top side at some point, it shouldn't take long. then just let it run for 1~2 mins like that. Now, put the filter (inside the plastic housing) into the water. NOT onto the hole just yet. Let it sit in the water for a minute to fill with water. I would even move it around a little to let it fill with water and get the air out of it. If you put it in and right to the hole there's a good chance of getting more air into the line. Once that's done keep it under water and put it onto the hole and screw it on, (bottom one) that should keep out the air and it should work fine after that. Now keeping that in mind there was a couple times where I needed to just start over and run though that process again to get it to work, that's why I said it can require patience. "Starting over" for me anyway, required unplugging it from the wall to clear out the error, outside of that I couldn't get the error to go away by just turning it off and on. Worse case it took me three tries, best case I would get it first try. Normally you can just replace the filter, hold it under water for a bit and then screw it on so there is no air getting sucked in and then turn it on and it's fine. But every once in a while I'd run into the same issue. Hope that helps.

    I’ve had my intex since 2015 I just had to replace the tub ( wasn’t to expensive from the company) I had an issue with the propeller magnets 2017. Believe it or not it wasn’t the rod that normally people have the issue with but the magnets they actually crumbled into pieces. I purchased a newer pump and took the part out of that since they don’t make the pump for the older ones. Well all said and done worked great until it started leaking in the spring 2020 😬 I kept it inside in the winter. Boy what a mess, it was a slow leak but nothing that could be fixed since it was inside the hose that the air comes out. I taken it that it ruptured or disintegrated from the chlorine tablets over time. But anyways I order the new tub and just got it up and running this year. New filters even took them off and still getting the E90 code 🤦🏼‍♀️ . The air is working it just when I hit the filter button. I have a feeling I’ll be taking it apart to check the motor now. I really loved this hot tub and when I’m not using it my cat and dog made it their bed and sleep on the lid. No I never had a hole outside the materials is pretty durable.

      Nice I would love a hard shell hot tub but not in the budget lol
      Well I spent the day disassembling the whole unit 🤦🏼‍♀️ First I took the pump apart check the rod then the impeller. I notice a hair line crack around the magnet casing. I put some super glue gel to seal it . Still no luck so I decide to change the pump with the new one I had for parts had to splice the wires together since the older model doesn’t have the connector fitting like the new ones. Still no go! This is were it gets fun fun fun. Took the whole unit apart OMG I had snails shells or slugs lol and that wasn’t just half of it, a rats nest I only know this cause I saw the 2 wires to the temperature have been chewed just the coating so I clean it out (blew air from compressor) wiped it down repaired the wires, for sun burnt! Finally got it back together. Hooked it up, turned it on the pump seem to be working but less then 30 seconds got the code! I did notice that some of the hard water deposits came out of the heater unit so I’m going to do a manual flush. With vinegar and my small pond pump. Tomorrow 🤞🏼 . The air blower is work the water is warm from the sun , bath water. Just no filter or heater. Can’t run one with out the other 🤦🏼‍♀️ If all falls maybe look to find a used unit cheap or just run my pond pump lol

      Cleaning the filter every couple weeks to a month should be normal. Daily, something is wrong, and I'm not 100% sure but there is a senor inside that is either failing or faulty. I think there are videos on RUclips of how to replace that, if you want to try it on your own. If not the company should be able to send you a new pump if it isn't that old.

I've taken the filters off while running and it's just fine, it doesn't break it or anything. No, that is not the "only" fix for the problem. My filters are clean, my water is always clear b/c I leave the lid on, and I'm still throwing an E90 code. I even tried to replace the pin in the motor for the heater b/c of the notch that can wear into it, but mine didn't have a notch. I'm thinking it's probably trapped air or some part I haven't found yet that is dirty. For people still looking for the answer to their E90 problem, I found a Q&A on Amazon that has a LOT of suggestions, so I'm going to start there. If changing the filters doesn't fix your problem (like it hasn't mine), you might try replacing that pin in the impellar shaft. It was pretty easy to take apart and check. It's a $3 fix versus letting them talk you into a new pump...

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  5 лет назад

      I thought my filters "were clean" as well, and as soon as I replaced them it worked perfectly. Yours, not so much. And yeah it's quite annoying that they just jump to sell you some new parts for something you just bought. Dumb.... The filters are not that great and seem to clog things very easily. All I'm saying is just replace the filters as a first step and then go from there. I went through a ton of the Q&As on Amazon as well, but most of the suggestions had to do with tearing the thing apart to "fix" something on the inside. And from many of the other comments, the people that tore apart the pump, that didn't fix it either. I started with some of the suggestions on Amazon from other people having this issue and I tore the pump apart, and those fixes didn't work for me. Every time I took the filters off completely, everything worked perfectly. Which lead me to just put a new filter on and that fixed my issue. I'm not trying to say that will fix everyone, just something to try as a first fix before taking it all apart like I did. And from what I've seen that whole pump unit is crappy at best as well. Which is made clear with the comments people have left on amazon.

      You have to unplug it for a few minutes and just let it sit. If you have no filters on at all when you turn it back on the error shouldn't come on. If it does you might have some air in the line. If you have it on, cover your hand over the very bottom filter for 30 seconds or so and then let go of it and let the water get sucked back into it. You might have to do that a couple times, and unplug and plug it back in, in between each time. That should get some water flowing in there and get the air out of the line. If you can plug it in and turn it on with no filters on it and the error doesn't come on then you should be good to unplug it and put the filters on and then turn it back on. If that doesn't work I would call the company. Hope that helps some...

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  4 года назад

      Then unplug it, let it sit a minute and then when you plug it back in and turn it on, hold your hand over the bottom hole next to the pump. (Basically stopping the waterflow into the pump). Hold it there for about 15-20 seconds and then let go. Then wait about 5-10 seconds and repeat. Do that until you get the error again (if you even do get the error again.) If you get the error again, shut it all down, unplug and plug it back in, then turn it on and let it just run on it's own. If you get the error again. Start over and repeat the process again from above. Unplug, plugin, turn on, and hold your hand over the bottom one for 20 seconds or so and then let go. I know you're frustrated, but you might need to repeat that a few times to get the air / water flushed through the pump. Then let me know what happens.

    So for the record the brand is pronounced Inte(x) and not Intech. Its literally printed in bold print right on the side of the unit. While this seems like a small detail it shouldn’t be ignored that many people make this same mistake by pronouncing it this way. That being said it’s also not a pool it’s a hot tub. That being said I too have experienced changing to a new filter works for a bit. I have yet to pull anything apart but that may have to be the next step considering it has happened more than once and after a short period of time. It seems like a fairly expensive habit to just continually change out filters at this pace.

    • @SmittySahn
      @SmittySahn  2 года назад +3

      So for the record... You should really start making some of your own videos so others can ridicule you before you start trying to correct other people on their videos. First off, I know what the brand is called I just wanted to see if anyone else got the Office Space reference, and someone did get the reference, so you're a little late to that party. And second, since you want to get really nitpicky, it's not even called a hot tub by the company (Intex). They call it a Spa, or Massage Spa, or Bubble Massage Set. check out their website and you'll see "hot tub" is not really even used anywhere. I called it a spa at the very beginning of the video, and since I didn't edit this particular video at all, I did misspeak and say pool. So I called it a pool instead of a spa (or hot tub as you call it)... Ya got me there. "Changing the filters every month" If you think it is an expensive habit, then maybe you shouldn't own one, or contact the company to get them to re-engineer their product. I did call them a couple times already and they do recommend changing out the filter every month anyway (of course depending on usage). Now on the new hot tub I have I only need to change the filter once a year. I knew that going into purchasing it because that is how it was designed.

By law they are supposed to have a hole there and they are supposed to tell people to put a filter there. Mainly that second "C" across from the pump can be used to put a light if wanted. But they are both in the correct spots. If you put your hand over the top hole were the pump it that hole pushes out water.

      @@iceboardin Right... :) If you followed directions and put the hot tub together, I figured I didn't need to explain how to remove the filters. :D

      @@jliang77 I always take the whole housing off, only because I use my hand to cover the hole to flush it out. You can cover it with your hand with the housing on it. The filter is identical on both ends so it can go on either way. Hope that helps.

    You're 30 second fix took 2 and 1/2 minutes to explain, but could have been explained in 20 seconds!

      If RUclips would promote 10-second videos of me being rude and just saying "change the filter dummy"... Then I would make 10-second videos. But RUclips doesn't promote that kind of stuff. So I am respectful and explained everything without rambling on too much. Just to make RUclips happy.

    The rod for the impeller on mine is broken in half. That's why I received E90 error code. When I replaced the impeller...it still didn't work and I could here a whirring inside. The shaft on my new impeller was 3 mm too short. Thanks Amazon.
