Thank you for the printable. I have had a ball doing fabric collage because of your inspiration. I love this llama and I made him into a pillow. Thanks again!
Hi Julia what a treat on a Friday evening. This is wonderful and thank you so much for the printable, that is so generous of you. I love the finished piece and what a fabulously creative way to use up scraps. I wouldn’t have thought of using the school glue, I use the stick and spray which is a temporary fix, but can be expensive. Julia you always come up with projects which are unique, fun and easy to try out. No wonder you have so many loyal subscribers. I hope your weather get a little better, in the U.K. we are experiencing a mini heatwave which is so welcome after the cold, snow and rain. I will try and blow some sun your way. Have a fantastic weekend Julia, sending you lots of hugs and loves as always. Xxxxxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️
Hi Dorothy, We are having a warm weather weekend!! So excited- the snow is almost gone. Thanks so much for watching, this was an easy project but it's fun how different each turns out depending on the fabric scraps. Have a creative weekend! Julia
Absolutely love your Llama Julia !!! Actually - I love ALL your tutorials - so clear and easy to understand . Shel C is one of my favorite mixed media artists and I really admire her talent with paper painting . Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful creations . Kind regards - Judi - Australia
I just love love your style of sewing and crafting, the way you put things together is awesome , I’ve been watching your videos over and over, your an amazing artist , I’ve learned so much from watching all of your videos, when a person is a sewer or crafter , I think we learn from each other , that’s part of the journey, it’s that way for me at least and I’ve been sewing for around 45 years and still learning, I’m working on the free motion right now among other things, just got the llama printable, will see how that goes 🤔
Hi Susan, Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad you are finding my videos helpful. I agree that learning from others is the way to creativity! Have a great week and have fun with the free motion stitching.
Oh Julia! This is too cute! I have been mentally searching for a technique to applique pieces for small quilts, and this is perfect! As soon as I finish cleaning my craft room, I'm going to give this a try. I can't wait! You are a wonder! Thank you so much!
Hi Janet, You ARE very talented. You always give me great input and ideas. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Happy creating. Julia
Hi Julia. I've just discovered your channel. I love it! The first thing I noticed was your accent. I immediately recognized it as most of my relatives live in North Dakota and are Norwegian. Made me feel right at time, lol. Keep the videos coming, they're great!
This is a adorable. I've been wanting to do a pillow with a llama on it for a while now-you have inspired me. Thank you for sharing your process. The 24 inches of snow is melting quickly here in east central Wisconsin with the 60 degree days we have been having.
April snow showers bring May flowers-right? Our snow is almost gone and we have a gentle rain this morning which should help clean up the rest. I love the llama craze. So glad you liked the video! Happy creating. Julia
Hi Kelly, I am so glad you are enjoying my sewing classes and patterns. It is so good to hear feedback. I hope to make more in the future. Also thanks for your order! Julia
My best art friend just told me about you today and I LOVE LOVe your videos. Checked your etsy shop too. Great Work. I tried free motion a couple of times in the past but did not do well. I need to try again. I want to make the fabric strips with the snips first I also want to make the fabric journal cover with the 2 eyelets. I like the idea about taking the pages out to work on or add more pages. Thank you for the free LLama printout I am sure I an do that.Your new subby in California but moving to Illinois

Hi Windy, I hope you give it a try! Each one turns out so different depending on the colors of scraps used. It really is easy and quick to do. Thanks for watching. Julia
Hi Julia, I bought a free motion foot. It fits on my machine. There is a spring on the foot. I tried to pay attention while you used yours. Mine seems to lift up with the spring. I think yours is lifting up too, but doesn’t seem like it lifts up as much as mine, but maybe it is because you are used to it. I hope I can get better at it. Hi Chrissie, Yeah for free motion! It's addicting! Yes, my foot has a spring on it and it lifts while sewing. It takes a bit getting use to it but is very helpful when going over various thicknesses. I have a small portable machine that I take on the go and it seems to really jump around. Each machine is different. Hope this helps- have fun! Julia
Good morning, Julia...TY for the Freebie and the tutorial. I noticed that the free motion foot on your machine has a circulare darning hole rather than the oval that is listed on Amazon. Is there a big difference between the two. I am a newbie.
Hi Jael, I hope you give it a try. Each turns out so different depending on your fabrics. It's really easy and goes together quick. Happy creating. Julia
Do you think a beginner could do this? I'm a little confused. If you use heat n bond to adhere the llama to the fabric, what is the glue for? Sorry to be so clueless....LOVE THIS PROJECT!!!
Hi Melissa, Sorry for the confusion. I use the school glue to adhere stripes of scrap fabric to the back side of the heat-n-bond. This step could be eliminated if you don't use the fabric stripes and went with one fabric for the body of the llama. Hope this makes more sense. You do need some basic free motion skills to complete this project like I demonstrated but it is not hard. Thanks for watching. Julia
Midwest is best! You have to try the lettering. It's really not the hard. I do go slower and turn my project more. It helps to see it better. Happy sewing! Julia
Thank you so much for the shout out Julia :) We are so on the same page! I think we must be sisters from another Mother! I have used heat and bond and fabric scraps just like I my paper painting exactly like you did with your cute Llama. I made Christmas stockings. It can be called fabric painting I think. I was also thinking of making some gel printed fabrics and then doing some sort of art quilt with this method. I would send it off to my Aunt for the actual quitting part though as she has the free motion quilting skills..not me. lol You know..maybe we could do a collaboration with video?
OMG- I've been binge watching your videos just this morning! I love your channel and your creative style! Love your giraffeicorn! I have never worked with pan pastels but have been thinking about giving it a try. I would love to do a collaboration with you! Perhaps something with Gel printing on fabric- Happy Creating and thanks so much for the inspiration! Julia

Geeze. I dreamt about llamas last night. ;) This must be fate. Thanks! Is that Osnaburg what they used to call "kettlecloth"? It looks like it. I loved that stuff. ;)
I haven't heard the term "kettle cloth" in a very long time. After graduating from college, I managed a fabric chain store and we had kettlecloth. I believe it's very similar, the osnaburg has slightly more texture. Thanks so much for watching. Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia Thanks, Julia, for bringing this back on my radar. I'll have to give some a look. It was unique and came is such vibrant colors! I'm really enjoying your videos!
I want to try this fun technique 💓I would like to know if you use bobbin thread when you do the free motion and also what stitch length do you recommend. I guess your pens and other supplies are available from Amazon or perhaps Joann’s? Thanks for sharing 💓Loved this and learned so much.
Hi, I use embroidery bobbin thread in my bobbin. Here is a link so you know what I'm talking about: amzn.to/2HmpnGR You could get it at Joann's also. It is thinner than regular thread but still strong. I especially like it for decorative stitches that are close together. It doesn't get to bunched up. I only use the white color in my bobbin. If it shows on the top, I lower my needle tension a bit. I think the pens would be available at an office supply or perhaps Michaels. Thanks for watching! Julia
The stitch length is usually set at 0, and the feet dogs disengaged. On one of my machines the length automatically goes to 0 when I drop the feed dogs. My other I manually set it to 0. Hope this helps. Julia
stitchesbyjulia I really appreciate your quick response Julia💓I am so excited about free motion stitching 😍Last night I was up until midnight. Like you said it can be addicting 🤪My other addiction crochet so I’m in trouble....but it’s good creative trouble. Peace and blessings ❤️
Such a cute llama! Thanks very much for the printable, and this tutorial. I would caution you to NEVER use Pilot Frixion pens on the right side of any fabric project, as even though it "seems" to disappear when you iron it, the chemicals are still there, and can come back when it cools down and/or you wash it. Even the manufacturer warns that these markers were not made for fabric. Better to use a water-soluble marker made specifically for fabric, or even chalk/ceramic mechanical pencil (or regular pencil). ~Diana from Toronto
Yes- always test, test TEST before doing a project. I have never had any reappearing ink on the unbleached muslin or osnaburg fabric but I did testing first. It is recommended to test all "fabric specific" markers also. I once marked a darker fabric with a blue water-soluble fabric pen and I could not get it all out. Live and learn:) Thanks for watching. Julia
Hands down, you are a creative wizard! Genius idea!
Thank you! 😊
