    This was very thorough explaining what's out there. Learned so much. Recognized many of them and have a better working knowledge of their capabilities and limitations. Started with the Casio family of WK workstations. Transitioned to Korg Krome EX and now have taken the step to advance to the Korg Nautilus AT. Almost went the route of the Summit but discovered along the way that perhaps I would not be suited to sound design just yet. If anything along that line would enter into the picture it would probably be the Minilogue XD. But in the meantime am looking forward to my new Nautilus AT.

      Thank you, so glad to help you. You must have noticed the HUGE difference in sound quality after leaving Casio behind? No one keyboard does it all, that is why you see synth jam musicians with so many instruments. Sound designing new sounds on workstations with a menu is a long process compared to the quick design on a Minilogue, but the results can be the same if the digital sound engine is very good. The secret is: the more knobs, sliders, and buttons on the front panel..or...the more complicated the instrument looks the easier it is to program. I bought a Roland Fantom this year, 90% of the sound design has to be done through the menu; the sound is fantastic and I can do a lot more with the Fantom than my Roland Gaia, but the Gaia takes me only a few minutes to create a sound while the Fantom takes at least half an hour. Now the Fantom menu is the best I have ever used, and as fast as any menu can ever be.

      I was thinking deep where to learn subtractive architecture (the most prevalent design) could not think of anything. I am such a dummy, I have a 8 video series on learning sound design on this channel (I guess I don't think of myself as a teacher). Here is the link to the playlist, begin at number one lesson and move on: ruclips.net/p/PLtrj7dkbby8XfXtbndeNQBD1DODyOFivU
      NOTE: You don't need the Roland Gaia SH01 synthesizer for these lessons but it is good one to have and learn on. Gaia may be going out of production, you can still buy a new one today some places.

      @@funnzie You are not a dummy. I found myself way more excited about synth and sound designing after I met your channel. Props to you for showing me all this experience. As a beginner musician, this is exactly what I was in need.
      Thanks for taking your time to answer me. Hope you're doing well.

      Just designed another amazing sound on the Gaia yesterday as I compose another orchestration. The Gaia has NEVER disappointed me. While other synths are only capable of maybe 25% of what you want.

    Very Nice! I've been using the Minilogue for almost 7 years now, and I really like what it can do even without menu dives. But in the digital field I prefer Roland System 8 to Gaya. The mono output of the Minilogue can be compensated with stereo ambience pedals (deley, reverb) in the chain before the speakers. But we have some stereo output alternatives in both analogue (Prophets) and digital (System8) synths. And Casio has on the market the Casiotone CT-S500 or CT-S1000 sampler-keyboard. Very good as they have always done.

    It is clearer now, not easier. I work with an Casio CTK-7200. Not the best, but, everything is goed enough just for learning. When I'm grown up (I'm now 68) I hope, that I saved enough money to buy a Korg Pa1000. Your video's are like slow cocking, it take some time, but the result is great. Thank you for that AND the series over the WK-7600. As I called it: "The missing manual."

    • @funnzie
      @funnzie  Год назад +1

      The good news is the CTK and WK7600 is as about as complicated as keyboards get. A touch screen can make things a little easier. There is a new company making arrangers, Medeli, I just bought a Medeli AK-X10: big touch screen, great sounds, very good operating system to get around, don't use the manual much, and I paid just $600 for a new scratch-n-dent, otherwise $700 brand new. Maybe your interim step before a $2000 dollar instrument?

    • @jurgenmintert-mtm
      @jurgenmintert-mtm Год назад

      @@funnzie Thanks for pointing me in the Medeli direction. It seems a goed alternative. The only downsize are the missing controle sliders for the organ section. And these are very useful to me. So, saving money is always a good idea, otherwise there is nothing to spent.

    I think we can consider the Korg NTS-1 to be another monophonic digital synth. :)

    • @funnzie
      @funnzie  2 года назад

      Yes you're right! AND..I own one, always thought of it as a analog monosynth...but never got to use it. It shipped with the automatic shut-off which could not be disabled. Attempted to update the firmware and it became a brick, I'm not happy. Maybe I just put this disaster out of my mind :)

      I've been programming arrangers styles for many years now, so far not a single arranger is made for a human, they all lack basic necessary requirements for programming pattern sequencers that can shift pitch with chord input. It has been a fun journey of synths since the 80s, you and I have been through it all.

      Hello fellow Californian, thanks for the concern. It took a full year for me to recover and get my strength back from the 2021 fires of Northern California. Happy to say I am riding at full strength again. After breathing smoke for 10 weeks in a row last year, I started looking for another place to live, for health reasons alone. I chose Las Vegas New Mexico for low fires, Rocky Mountains, and cheap living. But as I have tracked the weather there for a year now, I don't wish to move there. Don't know what to do, hoping we never have fires like that again for now. 2022 has been a good year up here in the North for clean air. Thank God! Where are you considering moving? My next choice may be Marysville Tennessee. ( I have lived in Michigan, Indiana, Oregon and California so far).

      I was thinking Sacramento but it is so hot there and polluted. Really difficult decision as my family is in Oregon but I don't like it there anymore. We did a trip to NC, SC, Tenn, GA . CA is so good in ways but so bad in ways as you know. I don't like to fly either. With that being said NC is up there. Have you looked At NW Arkansas... Fayetteville, Bentonville, Rogers? Fantastic Biking there and clean air I think at least. Very pretty. Chattanooga was kind of neat except a bit removed. My wife likes Raleigh. Please get back into doing bike vids. I love and miss your old school feel You and I are close to the same age so it is refreshing. What kind of biking are you concentrating on and what bikes are you riding these days? I am having a ball riding my gravel bike on some trails more meant for XC or trail bikes. Fun ! I think speed and air is really what is dangerous when you get older. But if you are in control some technical riding or underbiking is really fun and makes you a better rider. Great to hear from you!

      Vacationed in North Carolina one year, trained on my bike in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, and I have taken a close look at Fayetteville Arkansas with the Ozark mountains to ride through. All these choices should be low cost of living. Fayetteville will have to deal with mosquitoes again, like in Michigan, lots of standing water in those Ozark Mountains, which peak out fairly small at 2000 feet. I lived in Oregon for 5 years, but too wet there for me, you could always live on the East side of the Cascades in Oregon where it is dryer but treeless high plains. There is a border town called The Dalles where you could travel West to the Columbia Gorge or South through the open high plains, or North across the Columbia river to the mountains of Washington. I am afraid the cost of living in The Dalles may be to high. My biking these days have been the peak of the year with hard 4 hour training rides time trialing flats and hard core climbing... and 6 hour endurance rides in the Mountains where climbing can be over an hour long. A little off-road when I need a short, low intensity rest-on-the-bike recovery day. Most our great trails have been closed due to wildfires, and the rangers refuse to re-open them after years closed, claiming landslide danger, which is BS. There is always landslide danger 365 days a year, with the rainy season being the high alert time.

      @@funnzie Well if you looked at Chattanooga it may be one to look at again. No state income tax (although high taxes like sales) Very good riding there and the fastest internet gig speed. They have a very pretty downtown. Also I would recommend looking at the Greenville SC area. Greenville has the nicest downtown in the area. Pretty affordable there. I grew up in Oregon and too much history there and too many changes for me. I went to college in Seattle and no way would I live there. I don't like the rain. I was wondering about Utah but I don't know if the air is any good there as they have lots of inversions

      Yes, thank you. Hope you are well too? Doing catch-up training on the bike due to heavy rains in California all of 2023. So increasing mileage in the heat is difficult and leaves me drained. New video about cycling?When?

    • @funnzie
      @funnzie  Год назад

      I finally had the money to upgrade my video/audio, so soon.
      Video idea 1?) I went from a 3 inch wide fat bike to a 4 inch wide fat bike, and there was another huge difference, just as big of a difference from a 2 inch wide to 3 inch.
      Video idea 2?) Building a strong bike by replacing wheels, tires, brakes, crankset.
      Video idea 3?) 1by madness. Single Chainring crankset stupidity for the road and off-road.
      Video idea 4?) Upper body strength training, year round for cyclists.
      Video idea 5?) The Schwalbe Marathon Plus tire Two Year road review.
      Video idea 6?) Building the ultimate road bike for the recreational rider. Ignoring all UCI regulations.
      Video idea 7?) The stupidity of "superior" braking. Once power beyond traction of tire and surface is exceeded, why?
      Video idea 8?) Weak and dangerous wheels. Why the trend to narrow rims for off road 2.125 inch tires?
      What do you think?
