    Expressive E did a great job with this synth! As a keyboardist my main concern was that it would be focused on the expressive gestures and they might have sacrificed its ability to keep up with rapid playing. However, those fears were entirely unfounded. I played a very fast solo a few weeks ago on one of my tracks. The Osmose handled it without breaking a sweat, and the feel of the keys was perfectly OK for me. It really does seem to be a perfect studio controller, with the exception of piano parts of course, as the keyboard's only four octaves - but we can't have everything :)

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  Месяц назад +1

      I agree, not much of a keyboardist myself but I was curious about the action of the keys and was pleasantly surprised, they're heavy enough for a good feel but sensitive enough for light touch. I haven't had this much fun playing an instrument in a long time!

    I think it is important to note Ikutaro Kakehashi of Roland initiated the creation of what became MIDI. Dave Smith was brought in by Roland as the technical consultant on the project and to be an ambassador for the standard in the US while Kakehashi rallied the Japanese manufacturers to ensure ratification and implementation in Japan. And an amazing job they did! Congrats on the Osmose!

    I think a way to introduce MPE to someone who doesn't know what it is can be make any patch sounds like an actual instrument while can be no physical modulation

    You forgot to enable the "POLY" on effects you used that are being modulated by the MPE timbre.

      I used poly in any of the resonator presets, but for reverbs I generally prefer the mono summed input, it sounds more natural to me :) but thank you!

    I was inspired by Lippold Haken‘s wonderful Continuum back in 1999, He was, as far as I’m aware, the first guy who actually created something that would respond to 3 dimensions of touch, polyphonically. and i still love his Continuum to this day many have tried to come even close but none have done it as good as he...(edit : besides LinnStrument i must say) Nevertheless nice video Dash

    the way you can change the intensity of the string presence with how far you press the keys is SUPER clutch. Im going from playing guitar into DAW music creation with drum pad and midi keys, this looks close to the kind of expression you can get with analog instruments

    • @DashGlitch

      Most people will be quite modest about their playing abilities. The end result hear is nice and that’s what matters in the end, but stick Dash infront of a grand and ask him to play a piano concerto or two for memory or sight and it’s probably not going to happen. This is no shameful thing in itself but if you are going to call yourself a player of instrument X this is the level of confidence you need to have in yourself to claim that you are that player.
      I’ve had some formal training myself and I can compose some nice licks and melodies, but I *wouldn’t refer to myself as a player either 😅

    Great videom bro! I'm waiting for Image Line to finally adopt MPE or CLAP into their DAW... I don't have an MPE Controller, but what I already did with polyphonic modulations amazed me enough to want that technology right on my DAW! Can't wait!!!!!!

    I wish midi itself allowed alternate tunings... also daw-side features, midi itself wouldnt have to change for a more customizable horizontal axis and the way notes could optionally auto resize to fit the wonky grid. Parallel toggled grids for polyrhythms etc. Id also love an option to draw and visualize pitch bends the way you see it in a tuning plugin, no guess work and weird programming, just draw the exact curve.
    I suppose daws could even program around midi's limitations and give us microtonal midi interfaces, but that sounds like a lot of work for something that would turn out buggy. Similarly, it could do the weird pitch bend programming according to the result you want, but id much rather see midi itself advance

      @Windiguana Месяц назад +1

      Sorry I should have elaborated. There's a good handful of software (and hardware) synths that support MPE these days, way more than what was shown in the video, maybe some sound design with a variety of those...
      and perhaps showing how to draw in MPE MIDI data on various DAW's and comparing what that's like between the ones that support it.

    • @pailiaq
      @pailiaq Месяц назад +1

      @@tristen_grant I don't care for the company itself - i just enjoy videos exploring expressive synthesizers and listening to what the physical modeling engine of the eaganmatrix is capable of.
      I obviously watched the video before making that comment, its an expression/meme.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  Месяц назад +1

      Uh oh, the fun police is here! Nobody like anything or else xD just kidding, but it's funny how people will gush over guitar brands like Fender etc which arguably only have a difference of the type of wood, and nobody bats an eye. Gush over an electronic instrument, albeit unique and have literally nothing that compares and you're a shill. Hilarious.
      Anyway to actually answer the actual question. Eaganmatrix is amazing, just about the most advanced hardware synth engine to date. But it's complex as fuck and requires a steep learning curve. I've been studying it for the past few weeks and I think i've cracked it, so I'm gonna do some videos on it. But yea it's different and I do see why a lot of folks just ignore it.

  • @jenstornell

    I just bought a preset pack on sale for Phaseplant. Half of the sounds did not even work because it require MPE, not MIDI. Probably from the company your MPE controller is from. 😅

    • @DashGlitch
