Oh my God that was awesome! I had no idea that there was that much detail into sewing those blankets. It really makes you sit back and wonder just how much we take for granted. Will, I thank you for your time to show us these moments, tasks and day to day goings about the Civil War!
Sherman's raid of two army corps from Vicksburg to meridian was brilliant , they traveled light no tents , I also remember reading that some units gave their soldiers and option , take either a wool blanket OR a gum blanket , which would you have taken ??? , take care Mike Ferenz of the HOGG MESS
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest tried it in the summer months , actually went with the gum blanket , my sack coat as a half blanket , either way an interesting impression , take care Mike
What i do is take exact measurement of the letters then figure out the middle of the blanket the take a pencil and draw on the letters with the measurements I took earlier of the letter
It certainly is an option, although I would be concerned about how loosely woven comparatively a blanket is compared to other fabric. Also, as a tutorial, the pricking wheel is a rather specialized piece of kit that a lot of people may not have. That’s why we chose to go a different way. Tailor’s chalk should also be more universal to acquire.

Thanks for this video! I just ordered the same blanket and will be doing the same thing in a few days!
This man's straight edge is awesome.
It is foreshadowing! Wait for what it is.
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest I'll gladly do that.
Same.
I also found chalking the outline of the stencil before sewing was much easier than sewing through the paper stencil. Another great video.
Nice tutorial, Will.
I've visited the work apartment. I think it is a stop on the Chicago CityPASS tour. 😉
What is the work apartment? do u have a link that gives more infomation?
Great work Wil!
Thanks!
I'll try the stencil method like shown here in the video

The wool works wet or dry. I guess I would go that way. How about you?

How about using a pricking wheel and chalk dust ?

Any source for the yarn used to make the "US". Any suggestions?
When we did not get out from the maker, we often use just worsted wool yarn.
@@CivilWarDigitalDigest Thanks!
